1 And Job answered and said, 2 Even to-day is my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning. 3 Oh that I knew where I might find him, that I might come to his seat! 4 I would order the cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments; 5 I would know the words he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me. 6 Would he plead against me with his great power? Nay; but he would give heed unto me. 7 There would an upright man reason with him; and I should be delivered for ever from my judge.

8 Lo, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I do not perceive him; 9 On the left hand, where he doth work, but I behold him not; he hideth himself on the right hand, and I see him not. 10 But he knoweth the way that I take; he trieth me, I shall come forth as gold. 11 My foot hath held to his steps; his way have I kept, and not turned aside. 12 Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have laid up the words of his mouth more than the purpose of my own heart.

13 But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? And what his soul desireth, that will he do. 14 For he will perform what is appointed for me; and many such things are with him. 15 Therefore am I troubled at his presence; I consider, and I am afraid of him. 16 For ·God*GodHebrew: El hath made my heart soft, and the Almighty troubleth me; 17 Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither hath he hidden the gloom from me.

2 „Și acum plângerea mea este tot o răzvrătire.

Dar suferința îmi înădușe suspinele.

3 O, dacă aș*Cap. 13:3;16:21. ști unde să-L găsesc,

dacă aș putea să ajung până la scaunul Lui de domnie,

4 mi-aș apăra pricina înaintea Lui,

mi-aș umple gura cu dovezi!

5 Aș ști ce poate să răspundă,

aș vedea ce are să-mi spună.

6 Și-ar întrebuința El toată puterea ca să lupte*Is. 27:4,8;57:16. împotriva mea? Nu, ci m-ar asculta negreșit.

7 Doar un om fără prihană ar vorbi cu El,

și aș fi iertat pentru totdeauna de Judecătorul meu.

8 Dar*Cap. 9:11., dacă mă duc la răsărit, nu este acolo;

dacă mă duc la apus, nu-L găsesc:

9 dacă are treabă la miazănoapte, nu-L pot vedea;

dacă Se ascunde la miazăzi, nu-L pot descoperi.

10 Dar El știe*Ps. 139:1-3. ce cale am urmat

și, dacă m-ar încerca*Ps. 17:3;66:10.Iac. 1:12., aș ieși curat ca aurul.

11 Piciorul meu s-a ținut de pașii*Ps. 44:18. Lui;

am ținut calea Lui și nu m-am abătut de la ea.

12 N-am părăsit poruncile buzelor Lui;

mi-am plecat voia*Ioan 4:32,34. la cuvintele gurii Lui.

13 Dar hotărârea Lui este luată. Cine*Cap. 9:12,13;12:14.Rom. 9:19. I se va împotrivi?

Ce-I dorește sufletul, aceea*Ps. 115:3. face.

14 El Își va împlini dar planurile*1 Tes. 3:3. față de mine

și va mai face și multe altele.

15 De aceea tremur înaintea Lui

și, când mă gândesc la lucrul acesta, mă tem de El.

16 Dumnezeu*Ps. 22:14. mi-a tăiat inima,

Cel Atotputernic m-a umplut de groază.

17 Căci nu întunericul durerii mele mă nimicește,

nici negura în care sunt înfășurat.
