1 And Job answered and said, 2 How long will ye vex my soul, and crush me with words? 3 These ten times have ye reproached me; ye are not ashamed to stupefy me. 4 And be it that I have erred, mine error remaineth with myself. 5 If indeed ye will magnify yourselves against me, and prove against me my reproach, 6 Know now that +God*GodHebrew: Eloah hath overthrown me, and hath surrounded me with his net. 7 Behold, I cry out of wrong, and I am not heard; I cry aloud, but there is no judgment.

8 He hath hedged up my way that I cannot pass, and he hath set darkness in my paths. 9 He hath stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head. 10 He breaketh me down on every side, and I am gone; and my hope hath he torn up as a tree. 11 And he hath kindled his anger against me, and hath counted me unto him as one of his enemies. 12 His troops have come together and cast up their way against me, and have encamped round about my tent. 13 He hath put my brethren far from me, and mine acquaintance are quite estranged from me. 14 My kinsfolk have failed, and my known friends have forgotten me. 15 The sojourners in my house and my maids count me as a stranger; I am an alien in their sight. 16 I called my servant, and he answered not; I entreated him with my mouth. 17 My breath is strange to my wife, and my entreaties to the children of my mother’s womb. 18 Even young children despise me; I rise up, and they speak against me. 19 All my intimate friends abhor me, and they whom I loved are turned against me. 20 My bones cleave to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth. 21 Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, ye my friends; for the hand of +God*GodHebrew: Eloah hath touched me. 22 Why do ye persecute me as ·God*GodHebrew: El and are not satisfied with my flesh?

23 Oh would that my words were written! oh that they were inscribed in a book! 24 That with an iron style and lead they were graven in the rock for ever! 25 And as for me, I know that my Redeemer liveth, and the Last, he shall stand upon the earth; 26 And if after my skin this shall be destroyed, yet from out of my flesh shall I see +God*GodHebrew: Eloah27 Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another: — my reins are consumed within me. 28 If ye say, How shall we persecute him? when the root of the matter is found in me, 29 Be ye yourselves afraid of the sword! for the sword is fury against misdeeds, that ye may know there is a judgment.

și mă veți zdrobi cu cuvântările voastre?

3 Iată că de zece ori m-ați batjocorit*Gen. 31:7.Lev. 26:26..

Nu vă este rușine să vă purtați așa?

4 Dacă am păcătuit cu adevărat,

numai eu sunt răspunzător de aceasta.

5 Credeți că mă puteți lua*Ps. 38:16. de sus?

Credeți că mi-ați dovedit că sunt vinovat?

6 Atunci, să știți că Dumnezeu mă urmărește

și mă învelește cu lațul Lui.

7 Iată, țip de silnicie, și nimeni nu răspunde;

cer dreptate, și dreptate nu este!

8 Mi-a tăiat orice ieșire*Cap. 3:23.Ps. 88:8. și nu pot trece;

a răspândit întuneric pe cărările mele.

9 M-a despuiat de slava*Ps. 89:44. mea,

mi-a luat cununa de pe cap,

10 m-a zdrobit din toate părțile și pier,

mi-a smuls nădejdea ca pe un copac.

11 S-a aprins de mânie împotriva mea,

S-a purtat cu mine ca și cu un vrăjmaș*Cap. 13:24.Plâng. 2:5..

12 Oștile Lui au pornit deodată înainte,

și-au croit drum*Cap. 30:12. până la mine

și au tăbărât în jurul cortului meu.

13 A depărtat pe frații mei*Ps. 31:11;38:11;69:8;88:8,18. de la mine,

și prietenii mei s-au înstrăinat de mine.

14 Rudele mele m-au părăsit,

și cei mai de aproape ai mei m-au uitat.

15 Casnicii mei și slugile mele mă privesc ca pe un străin,

în ochii lor sunt un necunoscut.

16 Chem pe robul meu, și nu răspunde;

îl rog cu gura mea, și degeaba.

17 Suflarea mea a ajuns nesuferită nevestei mele

și duhoarea mea a ajuns nesuferită fiilor mamei mele.

18 Până și copiii*2 Împ. 2:23. mă disprețuiesc:

dacă mă scol, ei mă ocărăsc.

19 Aceia*Ps. 41:9;55:13,14,20. în care mă încredeam mă urăsc,

aceia pe care îi iubeam s-au întors împotriva mea.

20 Oasele mi se țin de piele*Cap. 30:30.Ps. 102:5.Plâng. 4:8. și de carne;

nu mi-a mai rămas decât pielea de pe dinți.

21 Fie-vă milă, fie-vă milă de mine, prietenii mei!

Căci mâna*Cap. 1:11.Ps. 38:2. lui Dumnezeu m-a lovit.

22 De ce mă urmăriți*Ps. 69:26. ca Dumnezeu?

Și nu vă mai săturați de carnea mea?

23 O! Aș vrea ca vorbele mele să fie scrise,

să fie scrise într-o carte;

24 aș vrea să fie săpate cu un priboi de fier

și cu plumb în stâncă pe vecie…

25 Dar știu că Răscumpărătorul*19:25 Evreiește: Goel. meu este viu

și că Se va ridica la urmă pe pământ.

26 Chiar dacă mi se va nimici pielea și chiar dacă nu voi mai avea carne*Ps. 17:15.1 Cor. 13:12.1 Ioan 3:2.,

voi vedea totuși pe Dumnezeu.

27 Îl voi vedea și-mi va fi binevoitor;

ochii mei Îl vor vedea, și nu ai altuia.

Sufletul meu tânjește de dorul acesta înăuntrul meu.

28 Atunci veți zice: ‘Pentru ce-l*Vers. 22. urmăream noi?’

Căci dreptatea pricinii mele va fi cunoscută.

29 Temeți-vă de sabie,

căci pedepsele date cu sabia sunt grozave!

Și să*Ps. 58:10,11. știți că este o judecată."
