1 And Job answered and said, 2 I have heard many such things: grievous comforters are ye all. 3 Shall words of wind have an end? or what provoketh thee that thou answerest? 4 I also could speak as ye: if your soul were in my soul’s stead, I could join together words against you, and shake my head at you; 5 But I would encourage you with my mouth, and the solace of my lips should assuage your pain.

6 If I speak, my pain is not assuaged; and if I forbear, what am I eased? 7 But now he hath made me weary; ...thou hast made desolate all my family; 8 Thou hast shrivelled me up! it is become a witness; and my leanness riseth up against me, it beareth witness to my face. 9 His anger teareth and pursueth me; he gnasheth with his teeth against me; as mine adversary he sharpeneth his eyes at me. 10 They gape upon me with their mouth; they smite my cheeks reproachfully; they range themselves together against me. 11 ·God*GodHebrew: El hath delivered me over to the iniquitous man, and hurled me into the hands of the wicked. 12 I was at rest, but he hath shattered me; he hath taken me by the neck and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark. 13 His arrows encompass me round about, he cleaveth my reins asunder and doth not spare; he poureth out my gall upon the ground. 14 He breaketh me with breach upon breach; he runneth upon me like a mighty man. 15 I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and rolled my horn in the dust. 16 My face is red with weeping, and on my eyelids is the shadow of death;

17 Although there is no violence in my hands, and my prayer is pure. 18 O earth, cover not my blood, and let there be no place for my cry! 19 Even now, behold, my Witness is in the heavens, and he that voucheth for me is in the heights. 20 My friends are my mockers; mine eye poureth out tears unto +God*GodHebrew: Eloah21 Oh that there were arbitration for a man with +God*GodHebrew: Eloah as a son of man for his friend! 22 For years few in number shall pass, — and I shall go the way whence I shall not return.

2 „Astfel de lucruri am auzit eu des;

voi toți sunteți niște*Cap. 13:4. mângâietori supărăcioși.

3 Când se vor sfârși aceste vorbe în vânt?

Și pentru ce atâta supărare în răspunsurile tale?

4 Ca voi aș vorbi eu

de ați fi în locul meu?

V-aș copleși cu vorbe,

aș da*Ps. 22:7;109:25.Plâng. 2:12. din cap la voi?

5 V-aș mângâia cu gura

și aș mișca din buze

ca să vă ușurez durerea.

6 Dacă vorbesc, durerea nu mi s-alină,

iar dacă tac, cu ce se micșorează?

7 Dar acum, vai! El m-a stors de puteri…

Mi-ai pustiit toată casa!

8 M-ai apucat ca pe un vinovat –

dovadă slăbiciunea mea,

care se ridică și mă învinuiește în față.

9 Mă sfâșie și mă urmărește în mânia*Cap. 10:16,17. Lui,

scrâșnește din dinți împotriva mea,

mă lovește*Cap. 13:24. și mă străpunge cu privirea Lui.

10 Ei deschid*Ps. 22:13. gura să mă mănânce,

mă ocărăsc și mă bat*Plâng. 3:30.Mica 5:1. peste obraji,

se înverșunează*Ps. 35:15. cu toții după mine.

11 Dumnezeu mă lasă*Cap. 1:15,17. la bunul plac al celor nelegiuiți

și mă aruncă în mâinile celor răi.

12 Eram liniștit și m-a scuturat,

m-a apucat de ceafă și m-a zdrobit,

a tras asupra mea ca*Cap. 7:20. într-o țintă.

13 Săgețile Lui mă înconjoară din toate părțile.

El Îmi străpunge rărunchii fără milă,

îmi varsă fierea pe pământ,

14 mă frânge bucăți, bucăți,

Se aruncă asupra mea ca un războinic.

15 Mi-am cusut un sac pe piele

și mi-am prăvălit capul*Cap. 30:19.Ps. 7:5. în țărână.

16 Plânsul mi-a înroșit fața

și umbra morții este pe pleoapele mele.

17 Totuși n-am făcut nicio nelegiuire

și rugăciunea mea totdeauna a fost curată.

18 Pământule, nu-mi acoperi sângele,

și vaietele*Cap. 27:9.Ps. 66:18,19. mele să n-aibă margini!

19 Chiar acum martorul*Rom. 1:9. meu este în cer,

apărătorul meu este în locurile înalte.

20 Prietenii mei râd de mine,

dar eu mă rog lui Dumnezeu, cu lacrimi,

21 să facă dreptate*Cap. 31:35.Ecl. 6:10.Is. 45:9.Rom. 9:20. omului înaintea lui Dumnezeu

și fiului omului împotriva prietenilor lui.

22 Căci numărul anilor mei se apropie de sfârșit

și mă voi duce pe o cărare*Ecl. 12:5. de unde nu mă voi mai întoarce.
