Vaidade da confiança depositada no Egito

1 Ai dos filhos *Is 30.9;1.2,23;65.2rebeldes, diz Jeová, que *Is 29.15tomam conselho, porém não de mim; que *Is 8.11-12urdem uma teia, porém não pelo meu espírito, para acrescentarem pecado sobre pecado! 2 Que *Is 31.1;Jr 43.7se põem a caminho para descer ao Egito e *Is 8.19não têm consultado a minha boca, *Is 36.9para fugirem ao asilo de Faraó e para confiarem na sombra do Egito! 3 Portanto, o asilo de Faraó se vos tornará *Is 20.5-6;36.6;Jr 42.18,22em vergonha, e a confiança na sombra do Egito, em confusão. 4 Pois *Is 19.11os seus príncipes já estão em *Is 19.11Zoã, e os seus embaixadores já chegaram a *Jr 43.7Hanes. 5 Todos serão *Jr 2.36envergonhados de um povo que não lhes pode *Is 30.7;31.3aproveitar, *Is 30.7;10.3;31.3que não serve de auxílio nem de proveito, porém de vergonha como também de opróbrio.

6 A sentença acerca das *Is 46.1-2;1Rs 10.2bestas do *Gn 12.9Sul.

Através da terra da *Is 5.30;8.22;Êx 5.10,21;Dt 4.20;8.15;Jr 11.4tribulação e angústia, de onde vêm a leoa e o leão, a víbora e *Is 14.29;Dt 8.15a serpente ardente e voadora, *Is 15.7;46.1-2levam sobre os ombros de jumentinhos as suas riquezas e, sobre as corcovas dos camelos, os seus tesouros, para um povo que não lhes aproveitará. 7 Pois, quanto ao Egito, *Is 30.5vão e de nenhum valor é o seu auxílio; por isso, lhe tenho chamado *Is 51.9;Jó 9.13;Sl 87.4;89.10Raabe que não se move.

8 Vai, *Is 8.1escreve isso numa tabuinha perante eles e registra-o num livro, a fim de que fique até os dias vindouros, para sempre e perpetuamente. 9 Pois é um *Is 30.1povo rebelde, *Is 28.15;59.3-4são filhos mentirosos, filhos que não querem *Is 1.10;5.24;24.5ouvir a instrução de Jeová. 10 Eles dizem aos *Is 29.10videntes: Não vejais; e aos profetas: *Is 5.20;Jr 11.21;Am 2.12;7.13Não nos profetizeis coisas retas, *1Rs 22.8,13;Jr 6.14;23.17,26;Ez 13.7;Rm 16.18;2Tm 4.3-4falai-nos coisas aprazíveis, profetizai ilusões; 11 apartai-vos do caminho, desviai-vos da vereda, fazei que o Santo de Israel *Jó 21.14desapareça de diante de nós. 12 Por isso, assim diz o Santo de Israel: *Is 5.24;7.9;8.6Porquanto rejeitais esta palavra, confiais na *Is 3.14-15;5.7;59.13opressão e perversidade e sobre elas vos estribais, 13 portanto esta *Is 26.21iniquidade vos será como uma *Is 58.12;1Rs 20.30;Sl 62.4brecha que, prestes a cair, forma barriga num alto muro, cuja queda vem *Is 29.5;47.11de repente, num momento. 14 Jeová o quebrará como se quebra *Sl 2.9;Jr 19.10-11um vaso de oleiro, despedaçando-o por completo; de sorte que não se achará entre os seus pedacinhos um caco em que se leve fogo da lareira ou com que se tire água da cisterna.

A prosperidade advirá unicamente por esperar pacientemente na graça de Deus

15 Pois assim disse o Senhor Jeová, o Santo de Israel: *Is 7.4;Sl 116.7Voltando e *Is 28.12descansando, sereis salvos; *Is 32.17no sossego e na confiança, estará a vossa força. *Is 30.11-12Vós não quisestes; 16 antes dissestes: Não, mas sobre *Is 2.7;31.1,3cavalos fugiremos (portanto, haveis de fugir) e sobre cavalos ligeiros cavalgaremos (portanto, hão de ser ligeiros os que te perseguirem). 17 *Lv 26.36;Dt 28.25;32.30;Jó 23.10;Pv 28.1Pela ameaça de um só, fugirão mil; e, pela ameaça de cinco, fugireis, até que *Is 6.13;27.11fiqueis como um mastro no cume de um monte e como um estandarte sobre um outeiro.

18 Por esse motivo, *Is 42.14,16;48.9;Jn 3.4,10;2Pe 3.9,15esperará Jeová para se apiedar de vós e *Is 2.11,17;33.5se levantará para ter compaixão de vós, porque Jeová é *Is 5.16;28.17;61.8Deus de juízos; bem-aventurados todos os que por *Is 8.17;25.9;26.8;33.2ele esperam. 19 Na verdade, o povo *Is 65.9;Ez 37.25,28habitará em Sião, em Jerusalém. *Is 25.8;60.20;61.1-3Tu não chorarás mais; certamente, se compadecerá de ti à voz do seu clamor; quando te ouvir, *Is 58.9;65.24;Sl 50.15;Mt 7.7-11te responderá. 20 Embora Jeová vos dê *1Rs 22.27;Sl 80.5pão de adversidade e água de aflição, contudo, *Sl 74.9;Am 8.11não se esconderão mais os teus mestres; os teus olhos verão os teus mestres. 21 Quando vos *Is 29.24desviardes para a direita e quando vos desviardes para a esquerda, os teus ouvidos ouvirão atrás de ti uma palavra, dizendo: Este é o *Is 35.8-9;42.16;Sl 25.8-9;Pv 3.6caminho, andai por ele. 22 *Is 2.18,20;31.7Contaminareis a cobertura das tuas *Is 46.6;Êx 32.2,4;Jz 17.3-4imagens esculpidas, de prata, e a vestidura das tuas imagens fundidas, de ouro; lançá-las-ás fora como coisa imunda e dir-lhe-ás: *Mt 4.10Vai-te daqui!

23 Jeová *Is 1.19;62.8-9;65.21-22;Sl 65.9-13;104.13-14dará chuva para a tua semente, com a qual semearás a terra, e pão da novidade da terra, o qual será pingue e abundante. Naquele dia, será apascentado *Is 32.20;Sl 144.13;Os 4.16o teu gado em largos pastos. 24 Também os bois e os jumentinhos que lavram a terra comerão feno com sal, feno que terá sido *Mt 3.12;Lc 3.17alimpado com a pá e com a joeira. 25 Sobre *Is 35.6-7;41.18;43.19-20todo o monte elevado e sobre todo o outeiro alto haverá ribeiros e torrentes de águas, no dia da grande *Is 34.2matança, quando *Is 2.15;32.14;33.18caírem as torres. 26 Demais, *Is 24.23;60.19-20;Ap 21.23;22.5a luz da lua será como a luz do sol, e a luz do sol será sétupla como a luz de sete dias, no dia em que *Is 61.1Jeová atar a *Is 30.13-14;1.6ferida do seu povo e *Is 33.24;Dt 32.39;Jó 5.18;Jr 33.6;Os 6.1-2curar o golpe da sua chaga.

27 Eis que o *Is 59.19nome de Jeová vem de longe, *Is 10.17ardendo na sua ira e numa densa massa de fumo; os seus lábios estão cheios de *Is 10.5;13.5;66.14indignação, e a sua língua é como *Is 66.15um fogo devorante. 28 *Is 30.33;11.4;2Ts 2.8O seu assopro é como uma torrente que *Is 8.8inunda e chega até o pescoço *Am 9.9para cirandar as nações com a ciranda de vaidade; *Is 37.29;2Rs 19.28um freio que induz ao erro estará nos queixos dos povos. 29 *Is 12.1;26.1O vosso cântico será como o da noite em que se guarda *Sl 42.4uma santa festividade; e a alegria do vosso coração, como a de quem se põe a caminho ao som da *1Sm 10.5;1Rs 1.40flauta *Is 2.3para ir ao monte de Jeová, *Is 17.10;26.4;44.8à Rocha de Israel. 30 Jeová fará ouvir a sua *Is 66.6voz gloriosa e mostrará a descida do seu braço na *Is 30.27;10.5;26.20indignação da sua ira, na chama de um fogo devorante, no arrebentar de nuvens, *Is 28.2,17;32.19na tempestade de chuva e na saraiva. 31 Pois, *Is 11.4pela voz de Jeová, será despedaçado *Is 10.12;14.25;31.8o assírio, a quem ele feriu *Is 10.26;11.4com a vara. 32 Cada varada que Jeová lhe aplicar *Is 10.24com a vara para isso destinada será com *1Sm 18.6;Jr 31.4tambores e harpas; e pelejará contra eles em batalhas *Ez 32.10em que agitará essa vara. 33 Na verdade, *2Rs 23.10;Jr 7.31;19.6Tofete está, de há muito, preparado; sim, para o rei está aparelhado. Foi feito profundo e dilatado; a sua pira tem fogo e muita lenha; *Is 30.27-28;10.16-17;11.4;Sl 18.8o assopro de Jeová, como uma torrente *Is 34.9;Gn 19.24de enxofre, é o que o acende.

1 "Woe to the rebellious children", says Yahweh, "who take counsel, but not from me; and who make an alliance, but not with my Spirit, that they may add sin to sin; 2 who set out to go down into Egypt without asking for my advice, to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to take refuge in the shadow of Egypt! 3 Therefore the strength of Pharaoh will be your shame, and the refuge in the shadow of Egypt your confusion. 4 For their princes are at Zoan, and their ambassadors have come to Hanes. 5 They shall all be ashamed because of a people that can’t profit them, that are not a help nor profit, but a shame, and also a reproach."

6 The burden of the animals of the South.

Through the land of trouble and anguish, of the lioness and the lion, the viper and fiery flying serpent, they carry their riches on the shoulders of young donkeys, and their treasures on the humps of camels, to an unprofitable people. 7 For Egypt helps in vain, and to no purpose; therefore I have called her Rahab who sits still. 8 Now go, write it before them on a tablet, and inscribe it in a book, that it may be for the time to come forever and ever. 9 For it is a rebellious people, lying children, children who will not hear Yahweh’s law; 10 who tell the seers, "Don’t see!" and the prophets, "Don’t prophesy to us right things. Tell us pleasant things. Prophesy deceits. 11 Get out of the way. Turn away from the path. Cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us." 12 Therefore the Holy One of Israel says, "Because you despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and rely on it, 13 therefore this iniquity shall be to you like a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking comes suddenly in an instant. 14 He will break it as a potter’s vessel is broken, breaking it in pieces without sparing, so that there won’t be found among the broken pieces a piece good enough to take fire from the hearth, or to dip up water out of the cistern."

15 For thus said the Lord Yahweh, the Holy One of Israel, "You will be saved in returning and rest. Your strength will be in quietness and in confidence." You refused, 16 but you said, "No, for we will flee on horses;" therefore you will flee; and, "We will ride on the swift;" therefore those who pursue you will be swift. 17 One thousand will flee at the threat of one. At the threat of five, you will flee until you are left like a beacon on the top of a mountain, and like a banner on a hill.

18 Therefore Yahweh will wait, that he may be gracious to you; and therefore he will be exalted, that he may have mercy on you, for Yahweh is a God of justice. Blessed are all those who wait for him. 19 For the people will dwell in Zion at Jerusalem. You will weep no more. He will surely be gracious to you at the voice of your cry. When he hears you, he will answer you. 20 Though the Lord may give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your teachers won’t be hidden any more, but your eyes will see your teachers; 21 and when you turn to the right hand, and when you turn to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, "This is the way. Walk in it." 22 You shall defile the overlaying of your engraved images of silver, and the plating of your molten images of gold. You shall cast them away as an unclean thing. You shall tell it, "Go away!"

23 He will give the rain for your seed, with which you will sow the ground; and bread of the increase of the ground will be rich and plentiful. In that day, your livestock will feed in large pastures. 24 The oxen likewise and the young donkeys that till the ground will eat savory feed, which has been winnowed with the shovel and with the fork. 25 There will be brooks and streams of water on every lofty mountain and on every high hill in the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall. 26 Moreover the light of the moon will be like the light of the sun, and the light of the sun will be seven times brighter, like the light of seven days, in the day that Yahweh binds up the fracture of his people, and heals the wound they were struck with.

27 Behold, Yahweh’s name comes from far away, burning with his anger, and in thick rising smoke. His lips are full of indignation. His tongue is as a devouring fire. 28 His breath is as an overflowing stream that reaches even to the neck, to sift the nations with the sieve of destruction. A bridle that leads to ruin will be in the jaws of the peoples. 29 You will have a song, as in the night when a holy feast is kept, and gladness of heart, as when one goes with a flute to come to Yahweh’s mountain, to Israel’s Rock. 30 Yahweh will cause his glorious voice to be heard, and will show the descent of his arm, with the indignation of his anger and the flame of a devouring fire, with a blast, storm, and hailstones. 31 For through Yahweh’s voice the Assyrian will be dismayed. He will strike him with his rod. 32 Every stroke of the rod of punishment, which Yahweh will lay on him, will be with the sound of tambourines and harps. He will fight with them in battles, brandishing weapons. 33 For his burning place has long been ready. Yes, it is prepared for the king. He has made its pyre deep and large with fire and much wood. Yahweh’s breath, like a stream of sulfur, kindles it.
