Conduta idolátrica de Israel

1 O *Sl 12.1justo perece, e não *Is 42.25;47.7há quem se importe com isso; e homens compassivos são arrebatados, sem que alguém considere que o justo é arrebatado *Is 47.11;2Rs 22.20;Jr 18.11para ser livre do mal. 2 Ele entra na paz; descansam nos seus leitos todos os que *Is 26.7andam na sua retidão.

3 Vós, porém, chegai-vos para cá, filhos da *Is 2.6agoureira, *Is 1.4;Mt 16.4linhagem do adúltero e da *Is 57.7-9;1.21prostituta. 4 De quem fazeis escárnio? Contra quem distendeis a boca e deitais fora a língua? Porventura, não sois vós filhos da *Is 48.8transgressão, estirpe da falsidade, 5 vós os que vos inflamais junto aos *Is 1.29terebintos, *2Rs 16.4;Jr 2.20;3.13debaixo de toda árvore verde, que *2Rs 23.10;Sl 106.37-38;Jr 7.31sacrificais os filhos nos vales debaixo das fendas dos penhascos? 6 Por entre as *Jr 3.9;Hc 2.19pedras lisas do vale, está a tua porção; estas, estas são a tua sorte; também a estas *Jr 7.18derramaste a tua libação, ofereceste uma oblação. *Jr 5.9,29;9.9Contentar-me-ia destas coisas? 7 *Ez 23.41Puseste o teu leito *Jr 3.6;Ez 16.16sobre um alto e elevado monte; e lá subiste para oferecer sacrifícios. 8 Detrás das portas e das ombreiras colocaste o teu memorial; pois *Ez 23.18te descobriste a um outro que não a mim e subiste; *Ez 23.7alargaste a tua cama e com eles fizeste aliança; *Ez 16.26,28amaste o seu leito, onde quer que o viste. 9 Foste ao rei com óleo, e multiplicaste os teus perfumes, e *Ez 23.16,40enviaste os teus mensageiros para longe, e te abateste até o Sheol. 10 *Is 47.13Tu te cansaste na tua comprida viagem; contudo, não disseste: *Jr 2.25;18.12Não há esperança. Achaste com que renovar as tuas forças; por isso, não enfraqueceste.

11 De *Is 51.12-13;Pv 29.25quem tiveste receio e medo, para que mentisses, e *Jr 2.32;3.21não te lembrasses de mim, *Is 57.1nem te importasses? Certamente, me *Is 42.14;Sl 50.21conservo calado, e isso há muito tempo, pelo que não me temes. 12 Eu *Is 58.1-2publicarei essa justiça tua; e, quanto às tuas *Is 29.15;59.6;65.7;66.18;Mq 3.2-4obras, elas não te aproveitarão. 13 Quando clamares, *Jr 22.20;30.14livrem-te os que tens ajuntado. Levá-los-á o vento, um assopro arrebatará a todos eles; porém o que *Is 25.4;Sl 37.3,9em mim confia *Is 49.8;60.21possuirá a terra *Is 65.9e herdará o meu santo monte.

A condescendência e clemência de Jeová

14 Este dirá: *Is 62.10;Jr 18.15Aterrai, aterrai, preparai o caminho, tirai os tropeços do caminho do meu povo. 15 Pois assim diz o *Is 52.13Alto e o Excelso, *Is 40.28;Dt 33.27que habita a eternidade, de quem o nome é Santo: *Is 33.5;66.1Habito no alto e santo lugar, também com aquele que é *Is 66.2;Sl 34.18;51.17contrito e humilde de espírito, *Is 61.1-3;Sl 147.3para vivificar o espírito dos humildes e vivificar o coração dos contritos. 16 *Gn 6.3Não contenderei para sempre, *Sl 85.5;103.9;Mq 7.18nem ficarei continuamente irado, porque diante de mim *Is 2.12,17;Jó 34.14-15desfaleceria o espírito, bem como *Is 42.5as almas que tenho feito. 17 Por causa da iniquidade da sua *Is 2.7;56.11;Jr 6.13cobiça, indignei-me e o feri; escondi a face, indignei-me, e *Is 1.4;Jr 3.14,22ele se foi andando perverso no caminho do seu coração. 18 Tenho visto os seus caminhos e *Is 19.22;30.26;53.5o sararei; também *Is 52.12o conduzirei *Is 61.1-3e tornarei a dar consolação a ele e aos que o pranteiam. 19 Eu crio o *Is 6.7;51.16;59.21;Hb 13.15fruto dos lábios; *Is 26.12;32.17paz, paz ao que está longe e *At 2.39;Ef 2.17ao que está perto, diz Jeová; e o sararei. 20 Os *Is 3.9,11;Jó 18.5-14iníquos, porém, são como o mar agitado, pois não pode ficar quieto, e as suas águas lançam de si lama e lodo. 21 *Is 48.22;59.8Não há paz para os iníquos, diz *Is 49.4o meu Deus.

1 The righteous perish,

and no one lays it to heart.

Merciful men are taken away,

and no one considers that the righteous is taken away from the evil.

2 He enters into peace.

They rest in their beds,

each one who walks in his uprightness.

3 "But draw near here, you sons of a sorceress,

you offspring of adulterers and prostitutes.

4 Whom do you mock?

Against whom do you make a wide mouth

and stick out your tongue?

Aren’t you children of disobedience

and offspring of falsehood,

5 you who inflame yourselves among the oaks,

under every green tree;

who kill the children in the valleys,

under the clefts of the rocks?

6 Among the smooth stones of the valley is your portion.

They, they are your lot.

You have even poured a drink offering to them.

You have offered an offering.

Shall I be appeased for these things?

7 On a high and lofty mountain you have set your bed.

You also went up there to offer sacrifice.

8 You have set up your memorial behind the doors and the posts,

for you have exposed yourself to someone besides me,

and have gone up.

You have enlarged your bed

and made a covenant for yourself with them.

You loved what you saw on their bed.

9 You went to the king with oil,

increased your perfumes,

sent your ambassadors far off,

and degraded yourself even to Sheol.*57:9 Sheol is the place of the dead.

10 You were wearied with the length of your ways;

yet you didn’t say, ‘It is in vain.’

You found a reviving of your strength;

therefore you weren’t faint.

11 "Whom have you dreaded and feared,

so that you lie,

and have not remembered me, nor laid it to your heart?

Haven’t I held my peace for a long time,

and you don’t fear me?

12 I will declare your righteousness;

and as for your works, they will not benefit you.

13 When you cry,

let those whom you have gathered deliver you,

but the wind will take them.

A breath will carry them all away,

but he who takes refuge in me will possess the land,

and will inherit my holy mountain."

14 He will say, "Build up, build up, prepare the way!

Remove the stumbling-block out of the way of my people."

15 For the high and lofty One who inhabits eternity,

whose name is Holy, says:

"I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also who is of a contrite and humble spirit,

to revive the spirit of the humble,

and to revive the heart of the contrite.

16 For I will not contend forever, neither will I always be angry;

for the spirit would faint before me,

and the souls whom I have made.

17 I was angry because of the iniquity of his covetousness and struck him.

I hid myself and was angry;

and he went on backsliding in the way of his heart.

18 I have seen his ways, and will heal him.

I will lead him also,

and restore comforts to him and to his mourners.

19 I create the fruit of the lips:

Peace, peace, to him who is far off and to him who is near,"

says Yahweh; "and I will heal them."

20 But the wicked are like the troubled sea;

for it can’t rest and its waters cast up mire and mud.

21 "There is no peace", says my God,

"for the wicked."
