1 A Song of Ascents; of David. If it had not been Yahweh who was on our side, Let Israel now say,2 If it had not been Yahweh who was on our side, When man rose up against us;3 Then they would have swallowed us up alive, When their wrath was kindled against us;4 Then the waters would have overwhelmed us, The stream would have gone over our soul;5 Then the proud waters would have gone over our soul.6 Blessed be Yahweh, Who has not given us as a prey to their teeth.7 Our soul has escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: The snare is broken, and we have escaped.8 Our help is in the name of Yahweh, Who made heaven and earth.

1 Se o Senhor não estivesse do nosso lado; que Israel o repita:2 Se o Senhor não estivesse do nosso lado quando os inimigos nos atacaram,3 eles já nos teriam engolido vivos, quando se enfureceram contra nós;4 as águas nos teriam arrastado e as torrentes nos teriam afogado;5 sim, as águas violentas nos teriam afogado!  6 Bendito seja o Senhor, que não nos entregou para sermos dilacerados pelos dentes deles.7 Como um pássaro escapamos da armadilha do caçador; a armadilha foi quebrada, e nós escapamos.8 O nosso socorro está no nome do Senhor, que fez os céus e a terra.
