1 Exultai a Deus, nossa fortaleza; jubilai ao Deus de Jacó.2 Tomai um salmo, e trazei junto o tamborim, a harpa suave e o saltério.3 Tocai a trombeta na lua nova, no tempo apontado da nossa solenidade.4 Porque isto era um estatuto para Israel, e uma lei do Deus de Jacó.5 Ordenou-o em José por testemunho, quando saíra pela terra do Egito, onde ouvi uma língua que não entendia.6 Tirei de seus ombros a carga; as suas mãos foram livres dos cestos.7 Clamaste na angústia, e te livrei; respondi-te no lugar oculto dos trovões; provei-te nas águas de Meribá. (Selá.)8 Ouve-me, povo meu, e eu te atestarei: Ah, Israel, se me ouvires!9 Não haverá entre ti deus alheio, nem te prostrarás ante um deus estranho.10 Eu sou o Senhor teu Deus, que te tirei da terra do Egito; abre bem a tua boca, e ta encherei.11 Mas o meu povo não quis ouvir a minha voz, e Israel não me quis.12 Portanto eu os entreguei aos desejos dos seus corações, e andaram nos seus próprios conselhos.13 Oh! Se o meu povo me tivesse ouvido! Se Israel andasse nos meus caminhos!14 Em breve abateria os seus inimigos, e viraria a minha mão contra os seus adversários.15 Os que odeiam ao Senhor ter-se-lhe-iam sujeitado, e o seu tempo seria eterno.16 E o sustentaria com o trigo mais fino, e o fartaria com o mel saído da rocha.

The language of one I had not known did I hear.6 (81:7) I removed from the burden his shoulder: his hands left behind the burden–basket.7 (81:8) In distress thou didst call, and I delivered thee; I answered thee in the secret of the thunder: I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. Selah.8 (81:9) Hear, O my people, and I will give warning unto thee; O Israel, if thou wouldst but hearken unto me!9 (81:10) There shall not be among thee a foreign God; nor shalt thou bow thyself down to any strange God.10 (81:11) I am the Lord thy God, who have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt: open wide thy mouth, and I will fill it.11 (81:12) But my people did not hearken to my voice; and Israel was not willing to follow me.12 (81:13) So I let them go in the stubbornness of their own hearts: and they walked in their own counsels.13 (81:14) Oh that my people would hearken unto me, that Israel would walk in my ways!14 (81:15) In a little while would I subdue their enemies, and against their adversaries would I turn my hand.15 (81:16) The haters of the Lord should offer flattery unto him; but their time should endure for ever.16 (81:17) And he would feed him with the best of wheat: and out of the rock would I satisfy thee with honey.
