1 Al Capo de’ musici. Per strumenti a corda. Salmo di Davide. Quand’io grido, rispondimi, o Dio della mia giustizia; uand’ero in distretta, tu m’hai messo al largo; abbi pietà di me ed esaudisci la mia preghiera!

2 Figliuoli degli uomini, fino a quando sarà la mia gloria coperta d’obbrobrio? Fino a quando amerete vanità e andrete dietro a menzogna? Sela.

3 Sappiate che l’Eterno s’è appartato uno ch’egli ama; l’Eterno m’esaudirà quando griderò a lui.

4 Tremate e non peccate; ragionate nel cuor vostro sui vostri letti e tacete. Sela.

5 Offrite sacrifizi di giustizia, e confidate nell’Eterno.

6 Molti van dicendo: Chi ci farà veder la prosperità? O Eterno, fa’ levare su noi la luce del tuo volto!

7 Tu m’hai messo più gioia nel cuore che non provino essi quando il loro grano e il loro mosto abbondano.

8 In pace io mi coricherò e in pace dormirò, perché tu solo, o Eterno, mi fai abitare in sicurtà.

1 To the Overseer with Stringed Instruments. -- A Psalm of David. In my calling answer Thou me, O God of my righteousness. In adversity Thou gavest enlargement to me; Favour me, and hear my prayer.

2 Sons of men! till when [is] my glory for shame? Ye love a vain thing, ye seek a lie. Selah.

3 And know ye that Jehovah Hath separated a saintly one to Himself. Jehovah heareth in my calling to Him.

4 `Tremble ye, and do not sin;` Say ye [thus] in your heart on your bed, And be ye silent. Selah.

5 Sacrifice ye sacrifices of righteousness, And trust ye unto Jehovah.

6 Many are saying, `Who doth show us good?` Lift on us the light of Thy face, O Jehovah,

7 Thou hast given joy in my heart, From the time their corn and their wine Have been multiplied.

8 In peace together I lie down and sleep, For Thou, O Jehovah, alone, In confidence dost cause me to dwell!
