1 No ano em que o rei Uzias morreu, eu vi o Senhor sentado num trono alto e elevado. O seu manto se estendia pelo Templo inteiro, 2 e em volta dele estavam serafins. Cada um deles tinha seis asas: com duas eles cobriam o rosto, com duas cobriam o corpo e com as outras duas voavam. 3 Eles diziam em voz alta uns para os outros:

"Santo, santo, santo é o Senhor Todo-Poderoso;

a sua presença gloriosa enche o mundo inteiro!"

4 O barulho das vozes dos serafins fez tremer os alicerces do Templo, que foi ficando cheio de fumaça. 5 Então eu disse:

— Ai de mim! Estou perdido! Pois os meus lábios são impuros, e moro no meio de um povo que também tem lábios impuros. E com os meus próprios olhos vi o Rei, o Senhor Todo-Poderoso!

6 Aí um dos serafins voou para mim, segurando com uma tenaz uma brasa que havia tirado do altar. 7 Ele tocou a minha boca com a brasa e disse:

— Agora que esta brasa tocou os seus lábios, as suas culpas estão tiradas, e os seus pecados estão perdoados.

8 Em seguida, ouvi o Senhor dizer:

— Quem é que eu vou enviar? Quem será o nosso mensageiro?

Então respondi:

— Aqui estou eu. Envia-me a mim!

9 O Senhor Deus me disse:

— Vá e diga ao povo o seguinte: "Vocês podem escutar o quanto quiserem, mas não vão entender nada; podem olhar bem, mas não enxergarão nada." 10 Isaías, faça com que esse povo fique com a mente fechada, com os ouvidos surdos e com os olhos cegos, a fim de que não possam ver, nem ouvir, nem entender. Pois, se pudessem, eles voltariam para mim e seriam curados.

11 — Até quando isso vai durar? — eu perguntei.

Ele respondeu:

— Até que as cidades sejam destruídas e fiquem sem moradores, as casas fiquem completamente vazias, e os campos sejam arrasados. 12 Eu, o Senhor, mandarei o povo para longe deste país, e as cidades ficarão vazias. 13 E, mesmo que fique no país uma pessoa em dez, ela também será morta. Os que restarem serão como o toco de um carvalho que foi cortado.

O toco representa um novo começo para o povo de Deus.

1 In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up; and his train filled the temple.

2 Above him stood the seraphim: each one had six wings; with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.

3 And one cried to another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is Yahweh of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

4 And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who cried, and the house was filled with smoke.

5 Then I said, Woe is me! For I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for my eyes have seen the King, Yahweh of hosts.

6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having a live charcoal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:

7 and he touched my mouth with it, and said, Look, this has touched your lips; and your iniquity is taken away, and your sin forgiven.

8 And I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then I said, Here I am; send me.

9 And he said, Go, and tell this people, You{+} indeed hear, but don't understand; and you{+} indeed see, but don't perceive.

10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; or else they will see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and turn again, and be healed.

11 Then I said, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until cities are waste without inhabitant, and houses without man, and the land becomes completely waste,

12 and Yahweh has removed man far away, and the forsaken places are many in the midst of the land.

13 And if there is yet a tenth in it, it also will in turn be eaten up: as a terebinth or as an oak whose stump remains when it is felled; so the holy seed is its stump.
