1 Aqui está o meu servo, que eu sustento; o meu escolhido, em quem a minha alma tem imenso prazer. Pus o meu Espírito sobre ele. Revelará o que é a verdadeira justiça e a porá em execução entre as nações do mundo.2 Actuará com calma e doçura - não gritará, nem se porá a discutir alto nas praças públicas.3 Não pisará a cana que já está quebrada; não apagará de vez o pequeno pavio que ainda fumega. Dará antes coragem aos que já estão a desfalecer e que estão a ser tentados a desesperar. Há-de fazer plena justiça aos que têm sido enganados. Não ficará satisfeito enquanto a verdade e a justiça não tiverem prevalecido através de toda a Terra, nem enquanto as terras, mesmo as mais distantes, para além dos mares, não tiverem posto a sua confiança nele.5 O Senhor Deus, que criou os céus e os estendeu, que criou a Terra e tudo quanto há nela, que dá vida, respiração e espírito a todas as criaturas no mundo, é aquele que diz:6 Eu o Senhor chamei-te para dar prova da minha rectidão. Hei-de guardar-te e amparar-te, pois que te dei ao meu povo como uma confirmação pessoal da minha aliança com eles. Serás igualmente uma luz para guiar as nações até mim. Abrirás os olhos aos cegos, e soltarás os que jazem nas prisões, em sombras e desespero.8 Eu sou o Senhor! Este é o meu nome, e não darei a minha glória a mais ninguém. Não consinto em partilhar louvores com ídolos esculpidos.9 Tudo o que profetizei se realizou; e agora tornarei a profetizar e a dizer-vos o que se vai dar no futuro, antes que aconteça.11 Juntem-se a esse coro, vocês igualmente, cidades do deserto - Quedar e Sela. E vocês também, habitantes dos cimos das montanhas.12 Que as terras distantes, onde o Sol se põe, glorifiquem o Senhor e cantem o seu forte poder.13 O Senhor será um poderoso guerreiro, cheio de zelo para com os seus inimigos. Dará um grande brado e sujeitará os seus adversários.14 Por muito tempo me calei; estive silencioso. Mas agora gritarei com força, como uma mulher que está a ter um filho.15 Nivelarei as montanhas, as elevações. Farei secar a densa vegetação. Os cursos de água e as lagoas se tornarão em terra firme.16 Guiarei os cegos por um caminho pelo qual nunca tinham andado, por vias que ignoravam. Farei com que as trevas se tornem luz diante deles. Alisarei o caminho que têm de pisar. Nunca me esquecerei deles.17 Mas os que confiam nos ídolos e lhes chamam deuses ficarão intensamente desapontados; voltarão para trás, envergonhados.18 Oh, como vocês foram cegos e surdos para com Deus! Porque não querem ouvir? Porque não querem ver?19 Quem no mundo inteiro é tão cego como o meu próprio povo, que está designado para ser o meu mensageiro da verdade? Quem é tão cego como aquele que me foi dedicado, que é o servo do Senhor?20 Vocês vêem e compreendem o que é recto, mas não lhe prestam atenção nem o praticam. Ouvem mas não querem escutar.21 O Senhor enalteceu a sua lei, tornou-a verdadeiramente gloriosa. Através dela quis mostrar ao mundo que é recto.22 Mas afinal foram roubados, escravizados, feitos prisioneiros, aniquilados à traição, tornados o joguete de toda a gente; e sem ninguém para os proteger.23 Não haverá sequer um de vocês que vos tire a lição destas coisas em relação ao passado, o considere seriamente a ruína que vos espera no futuro?24 Porque afinal, quem foi que permitiu que Israel tivesse passado por isso tudo, tivesse sido saqueado, ferido? Não foi justamente o Senhor contra quem pecaram, recusando andar nos caminhos que ele lhes indicava e não querendo ouvir os seus mandamentos?25 Foi por isso que o Senhor derramou sobre eles toda a sua indignação e a sua ira. Mas mesmo assim, apesar da força das guerras, e do fogo que os destruiu, não quiseram saber a verdadeira razão de tudo isso.

1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold; my elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.2 He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.3 A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment to truth.4 He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he hath set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.5 Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and expanded them; he that spread forth the earth, and that which it produceth; he that giveth breath to the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein.6 I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thy hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;7 To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison-house.8 I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.9 Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.10 Sing to the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is in it; the isles, and their inhabitants.11 Let the wilderness and its cities lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar doth inhabit: let the inhabitants of the rock sing, let them shout from the top of the mountains.12 Let them give glory to the LORD, and declare his praise in the isles.13 The LORD will go forth as a mighty man, he will stir up jealousy like a man of war: he will cry, yes, roar; he will prevail against his enemies.14 I have long time held my peace; I have been still, and restrained myself: now will I cry like a travailing woman; I will destroy and devour at once.15 I will make waste mountains and hills, and dry up all their herbs; and I will make the rivers to be islands, and I will dry up the pools.16 And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do for them, and not forsake them.17 They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, that trust in graven images, that say to the molten images, Ye are our gods.18 Hear, ye deaf; and look, ye blind, that ye may see.19 Who is blind, but my servant? or deaf, as my messenger that I sent? who is blind as he that is perfect, and blind as the LORD'S servant?20 Seeing many things, but thou observest not; opening the ears, but he heareth not.21 The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness' sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honorable.22 But this is a people robbed and pillaged; they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison-houses; they are for a prey, and none delivereth; for a spoil, and none saith, Restore.23 Who among you will give ear to this? who will hearken, and hear for the time to come?24 Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers? did not the LORD, he against whom we have sinned? for they would not walk in his ways, neither were they obedient to his law.25 Therefore he hath poured upon him the fury of his anger, and the strength of battle: and it hath set him on fire around, yet he knew not; and it burned him, yet he laid it not to heart.
