1 Ai daqueles que fogem para o Egipto, procurando ajuda, confiando na sua poderosa cavalaria e nos seus carros de combate, em vez de olharem para o Santo de Israel e de o consultar.2 Na sua sabedoria, Deus enviará grandes males ao seu povo, e não mudará de ideia. Levantar-se-á contra eles por causa do mal que fizeram, e esmagará também os seus aliados.3 Esses egípcios são meros homens; não podem substituir Deus! Os seus cavalos são simplesmente carne, e não poderosos espíritos! Quando o Senhor fecha o seu punho contra eles, cambalearão e cairão, mesmo ali no meio daqueles que pretendiam ajudar, acabando todos por cair juntos.4 Mas o Senhor disse-me o seguinte: Quando um leão, mesmo que seja um leãozinho, mata uma ovelha, não liga ao barulho e aos gritos que faz o pastor. Continua no seu acto e come a presa. Da mesma maneira o Senhor virá e lutará pelo Monte Sião; não se deixará atemorizar!5 Ele, o Senhor dos exércitos celestiais, pairará sobre Jerusalém, tal como as aves pairam sobre os ninhos para os defender; e assim protegerá e livrará a cidade.6 Portanto, ó meu povo, é verdade que vocês são profundamente rebeldes, mas peço-vos: voltem para Deus.7 Eu sei que ainda há-de vir o dia glorioso em que cada um lançará para longe os seus ídolos de ouro, as suas imagens de prata, que fizeram com as vossas próprias mãos e que são um pecado.8 E os Assírios serão destruídos, mas não por armas humanas. A espada de Deus os liquidará. Cairão em pânico e fugirão; a forte mocidade assíria será cativa - tornar-se-ão escravos.9 Até mesmo os seus generais e chefes militares tremerão de terror e debandarão quando virem as bandeiras de guerra de Israel, diz o Senhor. O fogo de Deus arde intensamente em Jerusalém.

1 Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and rely on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not to the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD!2 Yet he also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back his words: but will arise against the house of the evil-doers, and against the help of them that work iniquity.3 Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD shall stretch out his hand, both he that helpeth shall fall, and he that is helped shall fall down, and they all shall fail together.4 For thus hath the LORD spoken to me, As the lion and the young lion roaring on his prey, when a multitude of shepherds is called forth against him, he will not be afraid of their voice, nor abase himself for the noise of them: so will the LORD of hosts come down to fight for mount Zion, and for the hill thereof.5 As birds flying, so will the LORD of hosts defend Jerusalem; defending also he will deliver it; and passing over he will preserve it.6 Turn ye to him from whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted.7 For in that day every man shall cast away his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which your own hands have made to you for a sin.8 Then shall the Assyrian fall with the sword, not of a mighty man; and the sword, not of a mean man, shall devour him: but he shall flee from the sword, and his young men shall be discomfited.9 And he shall pass over to his strong hold for fear, and his princes shall be afraid of the ensign, saith the LORD, whose fire is in Zion, and his furnace in Jerusalem.
