1 Os céus são o meu trono e a Terra o estrado onde assento os pés. Por isso, que templo podem vocês construir que seja bastante digno de mim, que seja à medida da minha grandeza?2 Foi a minha mão que fez ambas as coisas, a Terra e os céus; por isso são meus. Contudo, olharei com piedade para todo aquele que tiver um coração simples e arrependido, que trema perante a minha palavra.3 Mas aqueles que preferem escolher os seus próprios caminhos, deleitando-se nos seus pecados, são amaldiçoados. Deus não aceitará as suas oferendas. Quando uma tal pessoa sacrificar um boi sobre o altar de Deus, isso terá para mim o mesmo significado e gravidade que assassinar um homem. Se sacrificarem um cordeiro, ou se trouxerem uma oferta de cereais, será tão repugnante para Deus como trazer-lhe um cão ou o sangue de porco para o altar! Quando lhe queimarem incenso será absolutamente o mesmo que prestar culto a um ídolo. Mandar-lhes-ei grandes tribulações - tudo aquilo que eles precisamente receiam; visto que quando chamei por eles recusaram responder-me, e quando lhes dirigi a minha palavra, não quiseram ouvir. E até fizeram o mal, na minha própria presença, e optaram por aquelas coisas que eles sabiam bem que eu abominava.5 Ouçam a palavra de Deus todos os que o temam e tremam com a sua palavra: Os vossos irmãos vos odeiam, vos aborrecem e expulsam por serem leais ao meu nome; troçam de vocês dizendo: Glória a Deus, que seja muito feliz no Senhor. Mas se eles dizem isso agora na risota, o certo é que hão-de ficar envergonhados.6 Que movimento, que rumor é este na cidade? Que ruído tremendo é este que se ouve no templo? É justamente a voz do Senhor dando paga aos seus inimigos.7 Quem jamais viu ou ouviu coisa tão estranha como esta? Porque num só dia, de repente, uma nação, Israel, nascerá, até mesmo antes de virem as dores de parto. Num só momento, logo que lhe começa o aperto, nasce um menino; começa uma nação. Seria eu capaz de levar o parto até ao último momento sem que se desse o nascimento?, pergunta o Senhor vosso Deus. Não, nunca!10 Alegrem-se com Jerusalém; regozijam-se com ela, todos os que a amam e que choraram por causa dela. Deleitem-se em Jerusalém; saceiem-se fartamente da sua glória, como se fosse um bebé sôfrego ao peito da mãe.12 A prosperidade encherá Jerusalém como um rio que a inundasse, diz o Senhor, pois sou eu quem a envia; serão as riquezas dos gentios que se derramarão sobre ela. Os seus filhos alimentar-se-ão aos seus peitos, levados ao seu colo, embalados sobre os seus joelhos.13 Confortar-vos-ei ali, tal como um pequenino é consolado pela mãe. Quando virem Jerusalém o vosso coração vibrará de gozo.14 Será notória a vossa fortuna. Todo o mundo verá a boa mão de Deus sobre o seu povo, e a sua cólera sobre os seus adversários.15 Porque, reparem, o Senhor há-de vir com fogo e com velozes carros para condenar com severa cólera, para fazer justiça com chamas de fogo.16 Pois que será precisamente com fogo e com a sua espada que o Senhor condenará o mundo; e será grande a matança que terá que fazer!17 Serão mortos todos aqueles que adoram ídolos atrás de qualquer árvore dum jardim, fazendo festins com carne de porco e de ratos, e com toda a espécie de coisas abomináveis - sim, esses terão um fim maldito, diz Jeová.18 Conheço muito bem as suas obras; sei perfeitamente o que pensam. Por isso juntarei todas as nações e todos os povos contra Jerusalém, para verem lá a minha glória. Realizarei um poderoso milagre contra eles; e os que escaparem dali, enviá-los-ei como missionários a Tarsis, a Pute, a Lude, a Meseque, a Roch, a Tubal, a Javã, e às terras para além do mar, que nunca ouviram falar da minha fama, nem se deram conta da minha glória. Aí será anunciada a minha glória aos gentios. E trarão os vossos irmãos, vindos de todas as nações, como se fosse um presente oferecido ao Senhor, transportando-os cuidadosamente em carros, em liteiras, em mulas e camelos, até ao meu monte santo, até Jerusalém, diz o Senhor. Será como quando se trazem as ofertas na época das colheitas, que enchem o templo do Senhor, e que são carregadas em recipientes consagrados a Deus.21 E nomearei alguns desses para serem meus sacerdotes e levitas, diz o Senhor.22 Tão certo como os novos céus e a nova Terra que eu hei-de criar permanecerão para sempre, assim também vocês serão para sempre o meu povo, com um nome que nunca há-de desaparecer.23 Toda a humanidade virá para me adorar, semana após semana, mês após mês.24 Ao saírem verão os corpos mortos dos que se revoltaram contra mim, visto que os vermes que os comem nunca morrerão, o fogo que os consome nunca se apagará; serão um sinal bem claro e tremendo para todo o género humano.

1 Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build to me? and where is the place of my rest?2 For all these things hath my hand made, and all these things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.3 He that killeth an ox is as if he slew a man; he that sacrificeth a lamb, as if he cut off a dog's neck; he that offereth an oblation, as if he offered swine's blood; he that burneth incense, as if he blessed an idol. Yes, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delighteth in their abominations.4 I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spoke, they did not hear: but they did evil before my eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not.5 Hear the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name's sake, said, Let the LORD be glorified: but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed.6 A voice of noise from the city, a voice from the temple, a voice of the LORD that rendereth recompense to his enemies.7 Before she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she was delivered of a male child.8 Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children.9 Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to bring forth? saith the LORD: shall I cause to bring forth, and shut the womb? saith thy God.10 Rejoice ye with Jerusalem, and be glad with her, all ye that love her: rejoice for joy with her, all ye that mourn for her:11 That ye may suck, and be satisfied with the breasts of her consolations; that ye may draw milk, and be delighted with the abundance of her glory.12 For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream: then shall ye suck, ye shall be borne upon her sides, and be dandled upon her knees.13 As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem.14 And when ye see this, your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall flourish like an herb: and the hand of the LORD shall be known towards his servants, and his indignation towards his enemies.15 For behold, the LORD will come with fire, and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire.16 For by fire and by his sword will the LORD plead with all flesh: and the slain of the LORD shall be many.17 They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating swine's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed together, saith the LORD.18 For I know their works and their thoughts: it shall come, that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and see my glory.19 And I will set a sign among them, and I will send those that escape of them to the nations, to Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, that draw the bow, to Tubal, and Javan, to the isles afar off, that have not heard my fame, neither have seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory among the Gentiles.20 And they shall bring all your brethren for an offering to the LORD out of all nations upon horses, and in chariots, and in litters, and upon mules, and upon swift beasts, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, saith the LORD, as the children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of the LORD.21 And I will also take of them for priests and for Levites, saith the LORD.22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.23 And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.24 And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcasses of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring to all flesh.
