1 Diz o Senhor: Fui procurado pelos que nunca antes tinha inquirido sobre mim. Os que nunca antes me tinham buscado, agora me acham. A uma nação que não invocava o meu nome disse: Aqui estou! Aqui estou!2 Mas o meu próprio povo, ainda que lhe tivesse aberto os braços todo o dia para o receber, revoltou-se. Preferem seguir trilhos maus, e os seus próprios pensamentos.3 Todo o dia me insultam no rosto, adorando ídolos nos seus muitos jardins e queimando incenso nos terraços das suas casas.4 À noite saem por entre as campas dos cemitérios e cavernas para adorar os espíritos maus; comem carne de porco e outros alimentos proibidos.5 Apesar disso ainda são capazes de dizer uns para os outros: Não te aproximes de mim, afasta-te. Sou mais santo do que tu! Dia após dia, o fumo de toda aquela maldade cada vez mais me enfurece.6 Vejam, esta é a minha decisão: não ficarei silencioso perante isso. Darei a paga; sim, castigá-los-ei; e não somente pelos seus próprios pecados mas pelos dos seus pais também, diz o Senhor, porque também eles queimaram incenso e me insultaram sobre os montes. Dar-lhes-ei inteiramente a recompensa que merecem.8 Mas não os destruirei todos, diz o Senhor. Porque tal como se encontram uvas sãs num cacho que aparentemente estava todo podre (como acontece até haver sempre alguém a dizer: Não as deite fora a todas; há aí algumas boas!) assim não destruirei Israel inteiramente, porque existem, lá no meio, verdadeiros servos meus.9 Conservarei um resto do meu povo para que possua a terra de Israel; dá-la-ei àqueles que seleccionei para me servirem lá.10 E para aqueles de entre o meu povo que me têm procurado, os verdes prados de Sarom ainda se encherão de rebanhos, e os férteis vales de Acor acolherão muito gado.11 Mas, visto que todos os outros lançaram Deus e o seu templo para o esquecimento, e adoraram os deuses da sorte e do destino, portanto a vossa sorte será a espada, e o vosso destino será bem negro. Porque quando chamei não me responderam, quando falei não quiseram ouvir-me. Pecaram deliberadamente perante os meus próprios olhos, escolhendo conscientemente aquilo que bem sabiam que eu detestava.13 Por isso diz o Senhor Deus, hão-de passar fome; mas quanto àqueles que querem servir-me, esses comerão à sua vontade. Vocês terão sede; mas eles beberão até se saciarem. Vocês terão vergonha e tristeza, enquanto que eles se alegrarão. Vocês chorarão de pesar, de vergonha e de desespero, enquanto eles cantarão de alegria.15 O vosso nome tornar-se-á como uma maldição entre o meu povo, porque o Senhor Deus vos matará, e aos que o servem chamará por um outro nome.16 E ainda hão-de vir os dias em que todos os que invocam uma bênção ou fazem um juramento fá-lo-ão sempre pelo Deus da verdade; visto que porei de lado a minha ira, e me esquecerei do mal que fizeram.17 Ouçam bem: vou criar novos céus e nova Terra, e tão maravilhosos que até ninguém mais se lembrará dos anteriores. Alegrem-se; folguem para sempre com a minha criação. Vejam! Tornarei a criar Jerusalém como um lugar de felicidade e o seu povo viverá em gozo!19 Terei plena alegria em Jerusalém e no meu povo; nunca mais ali se ouvirá nem a voz do choro nem a dos lamentos.20 Nunca mais morrerão ali crianças com apenas alguns dias de vida; nunca mais se considerará velha uma pessoa de cem anos! Só os pecadores morrerão jovens!21 Naqueles dias, quando alguém construir uma casa, será mesmo para viver nela a vida inteira, pois nunca mais será destruída por exércitos invasores, como no passado. O meu povo plantará vinhas, e comerá do seu fruto, visto que os seus adversários não os confiscarão. Viverá tanto tempo quanto a vida das árvores e desfrutará daquilo que ganharam com tanto esforço e suor. As searas não serão comidas pelos inimigos. As crianças não crescerão para virem a tornar-se vítimas da guerra, visto que são filhos daqueles que o Senhor abençoou; por isso esses seus filhos serão, eles também, abençoados.24 Responderei às suas orações ainda antes que as tenham formulado. Quando ainda estiverem a falar comigo, apresentando as suas necessidades, adiantar-me-ei e responderei às suas orações!25 O lobo e o cordeiro comerão juntos; o leão comerá palha como o boi; e pó será o alimento da serpente! Nesses dias nada, nem ninguém, será ferido ou destruído em todo o meu monte santo, diz o Senhor.

1 I am sought by them that asked not for me; I am found by them that sought me not: I said, Behold me, behold me, to a nation that was not called by my name.2 I have spread out my hands all the day to a rebellious people, which walketh in a way that is not good, after their own thoughts;3 A people that provoketh me to anger continually to my face; that sacrificeth in gardens, and burneth incense upon altars of brick;4 Which remain among the graves, and lodge in the monuments, which eat swine's flesh, and broth of abominable things is in their vessels;5 Which say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me; for I am holier than thou. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day.6 Behold, it is written before me: I will not keep silence, but will recompense, even recompense into their bosom,7 Your iniquities, and the iniquities of your fathers together, saith the LORD, who have burned incense upon the mountains, and blasphemed me upon the hills: therefore will I measure their former work into their bosom.8 Thus saith the LORD, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one saith, Destroy it not; for a blessing is in it: so will I do for my servants' sake, that I may not destroy them all.9 And I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob, and out of Judah an inheritor of my mountains: and my elect shall inherit it, and my servants shall dwell there.10 And Sharon shall be a fold of flocks, and the valley of Achor a place for the herds to lie down in, for my people that have sought me.11 But ye are they that forsake the LORD, that forget my holy mountain, that prepare a table for that troop, and that furnish the drink-offering to that number.12 Therefore will I number you to the sword, and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter: because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spoke, ye did not hear; but did evil before my eyes, and did choose that in which I delighted not.13 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, my servants shall eat, but ye shall be hungry: behold, my servants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty: behold, my servants shall rejoice, but ye shall be ashamed:14 Behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart, but ye shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall howl for vexation of spirit.15 And ye shall leave your name for a curse to my chosen: for the Lord GOD will slay thee, and call his servants by another name:16 That he who blesseth himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth; and he that sweareth in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hid from my eyes.17 For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.18 But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: for behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy.19 And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.20 There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die a hundred years old: but the sinner being a hundred years old shall be accursed.21 And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them.22 They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and my elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.23 They shall not labor in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them.24 And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpents' food. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.
