1 Be silent unto me, O ye Coastlands, lands, And let the Races of Men renew their strength,Let them approach, then, let them speak, Together, for controversy, let us draw near:2 Who roused up one from the East, In righteousness, called him to his feet,Set before him nations And over kings, caused him to rule, His sword, made like dust, His bow like driven chaff:3 He pursued them passed along safely,Upon the path of his own feet, entered he not?4 Who hath wrought and performed, Calling the generations, in advance? I, Yahweh, First, And with them who are last, I, am the Same!5 Coastlands have seen, so they fear, The ends of the earth, are in dread,They have drawn near, and have come:6 Every man, to his neighbour, giveth help,And to his brother, saith Take courage!7 So, the carver, hath encouraged, the goldsmith, he that maketh smooth with the hammer, him that smiteth the anvil,Saying of the welding, It is, good, Then hath he fastened it with nailsit must not totter!8 But, thou, Israel, my Servant, Jacob whom I have chosen,The seed of Abraham my loving one;9 Thou whom I have taken hold of from the ends of the earth, And from the extremities thereof, have called thee,And said to thee, My Servant, thou! I have chosen thee and not cast thee off,10 Do not fear, for with thee, I am! Look not around, for, I, am thy God,I have emboldened thee, Yea I have helped thee, Yea I have upheld thee with my righteous right-hand.11 Lo! they shall turn pale and be ashamedAll they who have been incensed against thee,They shall become as nothing and perishThe men who have been thine accusers:12 Thou shalt seek them, but shalt not find themThe men who have contended with thee, They shall become as nothing, and as a thing of noughtThe men who have warred against thee;13 For I, Yahweh thy God am firmly grasping thy right-hand,Who am saying unto thee Do not fear! I, have become thy helper!14 Do not fear, Thou worm Jacob, Ye men of Israel,I, have become thy helper, Declareth Yahweh, And thy redeemer The Holy One of Israel.15 Lo! I have made of thee a new pointed threshing sledge, owning teeth,Thou shalt thresh mountains and crush them, And, hillslike chaff, shalt thou make:16 Thou shalt fan them and, a wind, shall carry them away, And, a whirlwind, scatter, them,But, thou, shalt exult in Yahweh, And, in the Holy One of Israel, shalt thou boast thyself.17 As for the oppressed and the needy. Seeking water when there is none, Their tongue with thirst being parched IYahweh, will answer them, The God of Israel, I will not forsake them:18 I will open, On bare hills rivers, and In the midst of plains, fountains,I will make The desert, a lake of water, and Parched land, springs of water;19 I will set in the desert! Cedar, acacia, and myrtle, and oil-tree,I will place, in the waste plain, Cypress, holm-oak, and sherbin-cedar, together20 That men may see and observe and consider and understand at once, That, the hand of Yahweh, hath done this, That the Holy One of Israel hath created it.21 Bring near your contention, Saith Yahweh,Advance your defences, Saith the King of Jacob:22 Let them advance them, and tell us, What shall happen,Things known in advancewhat they were, tell ye, That we may lay them to our heart and mark the after-story of them, Or, things yet to come, let us hear:23 Tell ye the events which shall be here-after, That we may perceive that gods, ye are,Surely ye must do somethinggood or bad, That we may be amazed and behold it, at once.24 Lo! ye, are, of nought, And your work is a puff of breath,An abomination, he that chooseth you!25 I have roused up one from the North, and he hath come, From the rising of the sun, calleth he on my Name,And he hath come, on deputies, as though they were mortar, And as a potter treadeth clay.26 Who hath told in advance, that we might know, And beforetime, that we might say Right! Nay, there is none who can tell. Nay, there is none who can let us hear, Nay, there is none who can understand what ye utter.27 He who is First, , To Zion, Lo! there they are! And to Jerusalem, A herald of good-tidings, do I give.28 So I look, And there is not, a Man! Even among these And there is none to advise,That, when I ask them, can answer a word.29 Lo! as to all of them, Vanitynothingness, are their works, Wind and emptiness, their molten images!

1 Calai-vos perante mim, ó ilhas; povos, renovai as forças e chegai-vos, e então falai; cheguemo-nos juntos a juízo. 2 Quem suscitou do Oriente o justo e o chamou para o pé de si? Quem deu as nações à sua face e o fez dominar sobre reis? Ele os entregou à sua espada como o pó e como pragana arrebatada do vento, ao seu arco. 3 Ele persegue-os e passa em paz por uma vereda em que, com os seus pés, nunca tinha caminhado. 4 Quem operou e fez isso, chamando as gerações desde o princípio? Eu, o Senhor, o primeiro, e com os últimos, eu mesmo. 5 As ilhas o viram e temeram; os confins da terra tremeram, aproximaram-se e vieram. 6 Um ao outro ajudou e ao seu companheiro disse: Esforça-te!

7 E o artífice animou o ourives, e o que alisa com o martelo, ao que bate na safra, dizendo da coisa soldada: Boa é. Então, com pregos o firma, para que não venha a mover-se.

8 Mas tu, ó Israel, servo meu, tu Jacó, a quem elegi, semente de Abraão, meu amigo, 9 tu, a quem tomei desde os confins da terra e te chamei dentre os seus mais excelentes e te disse: tu és o meu servo, a ti te escolhi e não te rejeitei; 10 não temas, porque eu sou contigo; não te assombres, porque eu sou o teu Deus; eu te esforço, e te ajudo, e te sustento com a destra da minha justiça. 11 Eis que envergonhados e confundidos serão todos os que se irritaram contra ti; tornar-se-ão nada; e os que contenderem contigo perecerão. 12 Buscá-los-ás, mas não os acharás; e os que pelejarem contigo tornar-se-ão nada, e como coisa que não é nada, os que guerrearem contigo. 13 Porque eu, o Senhor, teu Deus, te tomo pela tua mão direita e te digo: não temas, que eu te ajudo.

14 Não temas, ó bichinho de Jacó, povozinho de Israel; eu te ajudo, diz o Senhor, e o teu Redentor é o Santo de Israel. 15 Eis que te preparei trilho novo, que tem dentes agudos; os montes trilharás e moerás; e os outeiros tornarás como a palha. 16 Tu os padejarás, e o vento os levará, e o tufão os espalhará; mas tu te alegrarás no Senhor e te gloriarás no Santo de Israel.

17 Os aflitos e necessitados buscam águas, e não as há, e a sua língua se seca de sede; mas eu, o Senhor, os ouvirei, eu, o Deus de Israel os não desampararei. 18 Abrirei rios em lugares altos e fontes, no meio dos vales; tornarei o deserto em tanques de águas e a terra seca, em mananciais. 19 Plantarei no deserto o cedro, e a árvore de sita, e a murta, e a oliveira; conjuntamente, porei no ermo a faia, o olmeiro e o álamo, 20 para que todos vejam, e saibam, e considerem, e juntamente entendam que a mão do Senhor fez isso, e o Santo de Israel o criou.

21 Apresentai a vossa demanda, diz o Senhor; trazei as vossas firmes razões, diz o Rei de Jacó. 22 Tragam e anunciem-nos as coisas que hão de acontecer; anunciai-nos as coisas passadas, para que atentemos para elas e saibamos o fim delas; ou fazei-nos ouvir as coisas futuras. 23 Anunciai-nos as coisas que ainda hão de vir, para que saibamos que sois deuses; fazei bem ou fazei mal, para que nos assombremos e, juntamente, o vejamos. 24 Eis que sois menos do que nada, e a vossa obra é menos do que nada; abominação é quem vos escolhe.

25 Suscito a um do Norte, e ele há de vir; desde o nascimento do sol, invocará o meu nome; e virá sobre os magistrados, como sobre o lodo; e, como o oleiro pisa o barro, assim ele os pisará. 26 Quem anunciou isso desde o princípio, para que o possamos saber; ou em outro tempo, para que digamos: Justo é? Mas não há quem anuncie, nem tampouco quem manifeste, nem tampouco quem ouça as vossas palavras. 27 Eu sou o que primeiro direi a Sião: Eis que ali estão; e a Jerusalém darei um anunciador de boas-novas. 28 E, quando olhei, ninguém havia; nem mesmo entre estes conselheiros algum havia a quem perguntasse ou que me respondesse palavra. 29 Eis que todos são vaidade; as suas obras não são coisa alguma; as suas imagens de fundição são vento e nada.
