1 For there is no gloom to her who had been in anguish, In the former time, he brought into dishonour The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, In the latter time, hath he brought into honour The Lake-way over the Jordan, Galilee of the nations.2 the people who were walking in darkness, Have seen a great light,The dwellers in a land death-shadowed, A light, hath shined upon them.3 Thou hast increased the exultation Thou hast made great the joy,They joy before thee, according to the joy of harvest, As men exult when they distribute spoil.4 For, the yoke of their burden, The cross-bar of their shoulder, The goad of their driver, Hast thou broken, as in the day of Midian.5 Surely, every boot of one tramping in tumult, and the war-cloak rolled in blood Then shall serve for burning, food for fire;6 For, A Child, hath been born to us, A Son, hath been given to us, And the dominion is upon his shoulder,And his Name hath been called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty GOD, Father of Futurity, Prince of Prosperity.7 Of the increase of dominion, and of prosperity, There shall be no endUpon the throne of David and Upon his kingdom, By establishing it and By sustaining it, With justice and With righteousness,From henceforth, Even unto times age-abiding: The jealousy of Yahweh of hosts, will perform this!8 A word, hath My Lord, sent unto Jacob,And it shall alight on Israel;9 and the people shall all of them know Ephraim and the dweller in SamariaWho in pride and insolence of heart, are saying:10 Bricks, have fallen down But with hewn stone, will we build,Sycomores, have been felled, But with cedars, will we replace them.11 Therefore will Yahweh strengthen the adversaries of Resin against him,And his enemies will he arouse:12 Syrians before and Philistines behind, Thus have they devoured Israel with open mouth,For all this, hath his anger, not turned back, But still, is his hand outstretched.13 Yet, the people, have not turned unto him that smote them,And Yahweh of hosts, have they not sought.14 Therefore hath Yahweh cut off from IsraelHead and tail Palm-top and rush, In one day.15 The eider and favourite, he, is the head,And the prophet teaching falsehood, he, is the tail;16 And they who should have led this people forward have been causing them to stray,And, they who are led of them are destroyed,17 For this cause, over their choice young men, will My Lord not rejoice, And on their fatherless and their widows, will he not have compassion, For every one of them, is profane and an evildoer, And, every mouth is speaking baseness,For all this, hath his anger, not turned back, But still, is his hand outstretched.18 For lawlessness, hath consumed like fire, Briars and thorns, doth it devour,Yea it hath kindled upon the thickets of the forest, And they have rolled up as a column of smoke.19 Through the wrath of Yahweh of hosts, is the land consumed,And the people have come to be, as fuel for fire, A man unto his own brother, sheweth not pity;20 And he hath slain on the right, and yet is hungry, And hath eaten on the left, yet are they not satisfied,Every one, the flesh of his own arm, will they eat:21 ManassehEphraim, and EphraimManasseh, They togetheragainst Judah,For all this, hath his anger not turned back, But still, is his hand outstretched.

1 Mas a terra que foi angustiada não será entenebrecida. Ele envileceu, nos primeiros tempos, a terra de Zebulom e a terra de Naftali; mas, nos últimos, a enobreceu junto ao caminho do mar, além do Jordão, a Galileia dos gentios. 2 O povo que andava em trevas viu uma grande luz, e sobre os que habitavam na região da sombra de morte resplandeceu a luz. 3 Tu multiplicaste este povo e a alegria lhe aumentaste; todos se alegrarão perante ti, como se alegram na ceifa e como exultam quando se repartem os despojos. 4 Porque tu quebraste o jugo que pesava sobre ele, a vara que lhe feria os ombros e o cetro do seu opressor, como no dia dos midianitas. 5 Porque toda a armadura daqueles que pelejavam com ruído e as vestes que rolavam no sangue serão queimadas, servirão de pasto ao fogo. 6 Porque um menino nos nasceu, um filho se nos deu; e o principado está sobre os seus ombros; e o seu nome será Maravilhoso Conselheiro, Deus Forte, Pai da Eternidade, Príncipe da Paz. 7 Do incremento deste principado e da paz, não haverá fim, sobre o trono de Davi e no seu reino, para o firmar e o fortificar em juízo e em justiça, desde agora e para sempre; o zelo do Senhor dos Exércitos fará isto.

8 O Senhor enviou uma palavra a Jacó, e ela caiu em Israel. 9 E todo este povo o saberá, Efraim e os moradores de Samaria, que, em soberba e altivez de coração, dizem: 10 Os ladrilhos caíram, mas com cantaria tornaremos a edificar; cortaram-se as figueiras bravas, mas por cedros as substituiremos. 11 Portanto, o Senhor suscitará contra ele os adversários de Rezim e instigará os seus inimigos. 12 Pela frente virão os siros, e por detrás, os filisteus, e devorarão a Israel com a boca escancarada; e nem com tudo isto se apartou a sua ira, mas ainda está estendida a sua mão.

13 Contudo, este povo não se voltou para quem o feria, nem buscou ao Senhor dos Exércitos. 14 Pelo que o Senhor cortará de Israel a cabeça e a cauda, o ramo e o junco, em um mesmo dia. 15 (O ancião e o varão de respeito são a cabeça, e o profeta que ensina a falsidade é a cauda.) 16 Porque os guias deste povo são enganadores, e os que por eles são guiados são devorados. 17 Pelo que o Senhor não se regozijará com os seus jovens e não se compadecerá dos seus órfãos e das suas viúvas, porque todos eles são hipócritas e malfazejos, e toda boca profere doidices. Com tudo isto não se apartou a sua ira, mas ainda está estendida a sua mão.

18 Porque a impiedade lavra como um fogo, ela devora as sarças e os espinheiros; sim, ela se ateará no emaranhado da floresta; e subirão ao alto espessas nuvens de fumaça. 19 Por causa da ira do Senhor dos Exércitos, a terra se escurecerá, e será o povo como pasto do fogo; ninguém poupará ao seu irmão. 20 Se cortar da banda direita, ainda terá fome, e, se comer da banda esquerda, ainda se não fartará; cada um comerá a carne de seu braço: 21 Manassés a Efraim, e Efraim a Manassés, e ambos eles serão contra Judá. Com tudo isto não se apartou a sua ira, mas ainda está estendida a sua mão.
