1 The oracle on Babylon,of which Isaiah, son of Amoz had vision:2 Upon a bare mountain, lift ye up a standard, Raise high the voice to them, Wave the hand, That they may enter the doors of nobles.3 I myself, have given charge to my hallowed ones,Yea I have called My heroes in showing mine anger, My proudly exulting ones. The noise of a multitude in the mountains A resemblance of many people,4 The noise of a tumult of kingdoms Nations gathered together, Yahweh of hosts, mustering a host for battle!5 They are coming in From a land far away. From the utmost bound of the heavens,Yahwehwith his weapons of indignation, To destroy the land.6 Howl ye! for at hand is the day of Yahweh,As a veritable destruction from the Almighty, shall it come.7 For this causeAll hands, shall hang down,and Every mortal heart, melt.8 And they shall be in distressWrithings and pains, shall lay hold, As a woman in childbirth, shall they be in pangs,Everyone, at his neighbour, shall look in amazement, Faces of flames, their faces!9 Lo! the day of Yahweh, coming in, Fierce and overflowing, and burning with anger,To devote the earth to desolation, And her sinners, will he destroy out of it.10 For the stars of the heavens and their constellations, shall not flash forth their light,Obscured shall be the sun in his going forth, And the moon, shall not shed her light.11 And I will visit, upon the inhabited earth, calamity!, And upon the lawless, their punishment, And will quiet the arrogance of the proud, And the loftiness of tyrants, will I lay low.12 I will cause, a man, to be more precious than fine gold,Even a son of earth than, the finest gold of Ophir.13 For this cause, the heavens, will I disturb, And, the earth, shall tremble out of her place,In the wrath of Yahweh of hosts, And in the day of the glow of his anger.14 And it shall beLike a gazelle that is chased, And like a sheep with none to lift it up,Each, to his own people, will they turn, And, each, to his own land, will they flee:15 Every one found, shall be thrust through,And, every one taken, shall fall by the sword;16 And, their infants, shall be dashed to the ground, before their eyes,Plundered shall be, their houses, and their wives ravished.17 Behold me! stirring up against them the Medes,Who of silver, shall take no account, And as for gold, they shall not delight in it;18 And, bows, shall dash the young to pieces,And on the fruit of the womb, will they have no pity, Over children, will their eye throw no shield.19 Thus shall BabylonThe most lovely of kingdoms, The majestic beauty of the ChaldeesBecome as in the divine overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah.20 It shall not be dwelt in for ever, Neither shall it be inhabited from generation to generation,Neither shall encamp there, an Arab, Nor, shepherds, fold their flocks there.21 Then shall lie down there, wild beasts, And filled shall be their houses with owls,Then shall inhabit there, the ostrich, And shaggy creatures, shall dance there.22 And jackals shall answer, in their citadels, And wild dogs, in their voluptuous palaces,And near to come is her time, And, her days, shall not be delayed.

2 Alçai uma bandeira sobre o monte escalvado; levantai a voz para eles e acenai-lhes com a mão, para que entrem pelas portas dos príncipes. 3 Eu dei ordens aos meus santificados, sim, já chamei os meus valentes para a minha ira, os que exultam com a minha majestade. 4 Já se ouve a gritaria da multidão sobre os montes, semelhante à de um grande povo, a voz do rebuliço de reinos e de nações já congregadas. O Senhor dos Exércitos passa em revista o exército de guerra.

5 Já vêm de uma terra de longe, desde a extremidade do céu, o Senhor e os instrumentos da sua indignação, para destruir toda aquela terra. 6 Uivai, porque o dia do Senhor está perto; vem do Todo-Poderoso como assolação. 7 Pelo que todas as mãos se debilitarão, e o coração de todos os homens se desanimará. 8 E assombrar-se-ão, e apoderar-se-ão deles dores e ais, e se angustiarão como a mulher parturiente; cada um se espantará do seu próximo; o seu rosto será rosto flamejante.

9 Eis que o dia do Senhor vem, horrendo, com furor e ira ardente, para pôr a terra em assolação e destruir os pecadores dela. 10 Porque as estrelas dos céus e os astros não deixarão brilhar a sua luz; o sol se escurecerá ao nascer, e a lua não fará resplandecer a sua luz. 11 E visitarei sobre o mundo a maldade e, sobre os ímpios, a sua iniquidade; e farei cessar a arrogância dos atrevidos e abaterei a soberba dos tiranos. 12 Farei que um homem seja mais precioso do que o ouro puro e mais raro do que o ouro fino de Ofir. 13 Pelo que farei estremecer os céus; e a terra se moverá do seu lugar, por causa do furor do Senhor dos Exércitos e por causa do dia da sua ardente ira. 14 E cada um será como a corça que foge e como a ovelha que ninguém recolhe; cada um voltará para o seu povo e cada um fugirá para a sua terra. 15 Todo o que for achado será traspassado e, todo o que for apanhado, cairá à espada. 16 E suas crianças serão despedaçadas perante os seus olhos; as suas casas serão saqueadas, e a mulher de cada um, violada.

17 Eis que eu despertarei contra eles os medos, que não farão caso da prata, nem tampouco desejarão ouro. 18 E os seus arcos despedaçarão os jovens, e não se compadecerão do fruto do ventre; o seu olho não poupará os filhos. 19 E Babilônia, o ornamento dos reinos, a glória e a soberba dos caldeus, será como Sodoma e Gomorra, quando Deus as transtornou. 20 Nunca mais será habitada, nem reedificada de geração em geração; nem o árabe armará ali a sua tenda, nem tampouco os pastores ali farão deitar os seus rebanhos. 21 Mas as feras do deserto repousarão ali, e a sua casa se encherá de horríveis animais; e ali habitarão os avestruzes, e os sátiros pularão ali. 22 E as feras que uivam gritarão umas às outras nos seus palácios vazios, como também os chacais, nos seus palácios de prazer; pois bem perto já vem chegando o seu tempo, e os seus dias não se prolongarão.
