1 Alas! for sons who are rebellious, Declareth Yahweh. Executing a purpose, but not from me, And pouring out a libation but not from my spirit,That they may add sin to sin:2 Who are setting out to go down to Egypt, But at my mouth, have not asked,Betaking them to the protection of Pharaoh And seeking refuge under the shadow of Egypt.3 Therefore shall the protection of Pharaoh become to you a shame, And, the refuge in the shadow of Egypt, an insult;4 For their princes have been, in Zoan,And, their messengers unto Hanes, would draw near.5 Every one, hath felt ashamed of a people that could not serve them,Neither with help, nor with service, But they are a shame, yea even a reproach.6 The Oracle on the Beasts of the South,Through a land of distress and oppressionLioness and lion coming therefrom, Viper and fiery flying serpent, They would carry, on the shoulders of young asses their wealth And on the humps of camels their treasures Unto a people that cannot serve them.7 But, the Egyptians, with vanity and emptiness, would help,Therefore have I proclaimed concerning this, Insolent, they sit still!8 Now, enterWrite it upon a tablet before them And upon a scroll, inscribe it,That it may serve for a later day, For futurity, unto times age-abiding:9 That it is, a rebellious people, Sons apt at deceiving,Sons unwilling to hear the law of Yahweh:10 Who have said to the seers, Ye must not see! To the prophets, Ye must not prophesy to us reproofs! Speak to us smooth things, Prophesy delusions:11 Depart ye from the way, Turn aside from the path,Desist from setting before us the Holy One of Israel.12 ThereforeThus, saith the Holy One of Israel, Because ye have rejected this word,And have trusted in oppression and perverseness, And have relied thereon,13 Therefore, shall this iniquity become to you As a breach ready to fall, A bulging in a high wall,Whose breaking down cometh, suddenly in a twinkling.14 Yea he will break itas the breaking of the pitcher of a potter, crushed, he will not spare; So that there shall not be found when it is smashed, A sherd wherewith to snatch fire from a hearth, Or to skim off water out of a cistern.15 For thus, said my Lord Yahweh, the Holy One of IsraelBy returning and resting, shall ye be saved, In keeping quiet and trusting, shall be your strength,Howbeit ye would not!16 But ye said,Nay! but on horses, will we flee For this cause, shall ye indeed flee,And on the swift, will we ride, For this cause, swift, shall be your pursuers:17 One thousand, before the war-cry of onebefore the war-cry of five, shall ye flee,Until ye have been left, As a pole on the top of a mountain, And as an ensign upon a hill.18 And, therefore, will Yahweh wait, That he may grant you favour, And, therefore, will he lift himself up, That he may show you compassion,For A God of justice, is, Yahweh, How happy all they who are waiting for him19 For, a people, In Zion, shall dwell, In Jerusalem,As for weeping, thou shalt not weep! As for favour, he will grant thee favour, at the sound of thine outcry,As soon as he heareth, he hath answered thee!20 Though My Lord, should give you bread in short measure and water in scant allowance Yet will thy Teacher not hide himself any more, But thine eyes shall ever be looking on thy Teacher.21 So shall, thine own ears, hear a word from behind thee saying,This, is the way, walk ye therein, When ye would turn to the right hand Or when ye would turn to the left.22 Then will ye defileThe overlaying of thy graven images of silver, And the coating of thy molten image, of gold,Thou wilt cash them away, as a woman the token of her sickness, Begone! shalt thou say thereto,23 Then will he giveRain for thy seedwherewith thou shalt sow thy ground and Bread as the increase of thy ground, which shall be fertile and fat,Thy cattle, in that day, shall feed in broad pasture:24 And the oxen and the young asses that till the ground, salted provender, shall eat, which hath been winnowed with shovel or fan.25 Then shall there be, On every lofty mountain and On every lifted bill, Channels, Conduits of water,In the great day of slaughter, When the towers fall.26 Then shall the light of the moon, be as the light of the sun, And, the light of the sun, shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days,In the dayWhen Yahweh, bindeth up, the laceration of his people, and When the severe wound caused by smiting them, he healeth.27 Lo! the Name of Yahweh, coming in from afar, His anger kindling, A heavy storm,His lips, are full of indignation, And, his tongue, is like a fire that devoureth;28 And, his breath like an overflowing torrent, even unto the neck, doth reach, To sift nations with a sieve of calamity,A bridle leading to ruin, being upon the jaws of the peoples.29 A song, shall ye have, As in the night of hallowing a festival,And gladness of heart, As when one goeth with the flute to enter Into the mountain of Yahweh Unto the Rock of Israel.30 Then will Yahweh cause to be heardthe resounding of his voice And the bringing down of his arm, shall be seen, In a rage of anger, And with the flame of a devouring fire,A burst and a downpour, and a hailstone!31 For at the voice of Yahweh, shall Assyria be crushed,With his rod, will he smite.32 And it shall come to pass,that, every stroke of the staff of doom which Yahweh shall lay upon him, shall be with timbrels and with lyres,when, with battles of brandished weapons, he hath fought against them.33 For there hath been set in order, beforehand a Topheth, Yea, the same, for the king, hath been prepared He hath made it deepmade it large,The circumference thereof is for fire and wood in abundance, the breath of Yahweh, like a torrent of brimstone, is ready to kindle it.

1 Ai dos filhos rebeldes, diz o Senhor, que tomaram conselho, mas não de mim! E que se cobriram com uma cobertura, mas não do meu Espírito, para acrescentarem pecado a pecado! 2 Que descem ao Egito, sem perguntarem à minha boca, para se fortificarem com a força de Faraó e para confiarem na sombra do Egito! 3 Porque a força de Faraó se vos tornará em vergonha, e a confiança na sombra do Egito, em confusão. 4 Porque os seus príncipes estão em Zoã, e os seus embaixadores chegaram a Hanes. 5 Eles se envergonharão de um povo que de nada lhe servirá, nem de ajuda, nem de proveito; antes, de vergonha e de opróbrio. 6 Peso dos animais do Sul. Para a terra de aflição e de angústia (donde vem a leoa, o leão, o basilisco e a áspide ardente voadora) levarão às costas de jumentinhos as suas fazendas, e sobre as corcovas de camelos, os seus tesouros a um povo que de nada lhes aproveitará. 7 Porque o Egito os ajudará em vão e para nenhum fim; pelo que clamei acerca disto: No estarem quietos, estará a sua força.

8 Vai, pois, agora, escreve isto em uma tábua perante eles e aponta-o em um livro; para que fique escrito para o tempo vindouro, para sempre e perpetuamente. 9 Porque povo rebelde é este, filhos mentirosos, filhos que não querem ouvir a lei do Senhor; 10 que dizem aos videntes: Não vejais; e aos profetas: Não profetizeis para nós o que é reto; dizei-nos coisas aprazíveis e tende para nós enganadoras lisonjas; 11 desviai-vos do caminho, apartai-vos da vereda; fazei que deixe de estar o Santo de Israel perante nós. 12 Pelo que assim diz o Santo de Israel: Visto que rejeitais esta palavra, e confiais na opressão e na perversidade, e sobre isso vos estribais, 13 por isso, esta maldade vos será como a parede fendida, que já forma barriga desde o mais alto sítio, e cuja queda virá subitamente, em um momento. 14 E ele o quebrará como se quebra o vaso do oleiro e, quebrando-o, não se compadecerá; não se achará entre os seus pedaços um que sirva para tomar fogo do lar ou tirar água da poça. 15 Porque assim diz o Senhor Jeová, o Santo de Israel: Em vos converterdes e em repousardes, estaria a vossa salvação; no sossego e na confiança, estaria a vossa força, mas não a quisestes. 16 Mas dizeis: Não; antes, sobre cavalos fugiremos; portanto, fugireis; e: Sobre cavalos ligeiros cavalgaremos; por isso, os vossos perseguidores serão ligeiros. 17 Mil homens fugirão ao grito de um e, ao grito de cinco, todos vós fugireis, até que sejais deixados como o mastro no cume do monte e como a bandeira no outeiro.

18 Por isso, o Senhor esperará para ter misericórdia de vós; e, por isso, será exalçado para se compadecer de vós, porque o Senhor é um Deus de equidade. Bem-aventurados todos os que nele esperam. 19 Porque o povo habitará em Sião, em Jerusalém; não chorarás mais; certamente, se compadecerá de ti, à voz do teu clamor; e, ouvindo-a, te responderá. 20 Bem vos dará o Senhor pão de angústia e água de aperto, mas os teus instruidores nunca mais fugirão de ti, como voando com asas; antes, os teus olhos verão a todos os teus mestres. 21 E os teus ouvidos ouvirão a palavra que está por detrás de ti, dizendo: Este é o caminho; andai nele, sem vos desviardes nem para a direita nem para a esquerda. 22 E terás por contaminadas as coberturas das tuas esculturas de prata e a coberta das tuas esculturas fundidas de ouro; e as lançarás fora como um pano imundo e dirás a cada uma delas: Fora daqui!

23 Então, te dará chuva sobre a semente com que semeares a terra, como também pão da novidade da terra; e esta será fértil e cheia; naquele dia, o teu gado pastará em lugares largos de pasto. 24 E os bois e os jumentinhos que lavram a terra comerão grão puro, que for padejado com a pá e cirandado com a ciranda. 25 E haverá, em todo monte alto e em todo outeiro elevado, ribeiros e correntes de águas, no dia da grande matança, quando caírem as torres. 26 E será a luz da lua como a luz do sol, e a luz do sol, sete vezes maior, como a luz de sete dias, no dia em que o Senhor ligar a quebradura do seu povo e curar a chaga da sua ferida.

27 Eis que o nome do Senhor vem de longe ardendo na sua ira e lançando espessa fumaça; os seus lábios estão cheios de indignação, e a sua língua é como um fogo consumidor; 28 e a sua respiração é como o ribeiro trasbordando, que chega até ao pescoço, para peneirar as nações com peneira de vaidade; e um freio de fazer errar estará nas queixadas dos povos. 29 Um cântico haverá entre vós, como na noite em que se celebra uma festa santa; e alegria de coração, como a daquela que sai tocando pífano, para vir ao monte do Senhor, à Rocha de Israel. 30 E o Senhor fará ouvir a glória da sua voz e fará ver o abaixamento do seu braço, com indignação de ira, e a labareda do seu fogo consumidor, e raios, e dilúvio, e pedra de saraiva. 31 Porque, com a voz do Senhor, será desfeita em pedaços a Assíria, que feriu com a vara. 32 E, a cada pancada do bordão do juízo que o Senhor der, haverá tamboris e harpas; e, com combates de agitação, combaterá contra eles. 33 Porque uma fogueira está preparada desde ontem, sim, está preparada para o rei; ele a fez profunda e larga; a sua pilha é fogo e tem muita lenha; o assopro do Senhor como torrente de enxofre a acenderá.
