1 And Yahweh said unto me: Take thee a large tablet,and write thereon in plain characters, To Maher-shalal-hash-baz. "Speed-spoil-hurry-prey".2 That I may take in attestation, faithful witnesses,even Uriah the priest, and Zechariah son of Jeberechiah.3 Then approached I unto the prophetess, and she conceived and bare a son,and Yahweh said unto me, Call his name Maher-shalal-hash-baz.4 For before the boy shall have knowledge to cry, My father! and, My mother! the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be carried away before the king of Assyria.5 And again Yahweh spake unto me yet further saying:6 Because this people hath refused the waters of Shiloah which flow softly,and are rejoicing with Rezin and the son of Remaliah,7 now therefore, lo! the Lord is about to bring up against them the waters, strong and many, of the River, even the king of Assyria and all his glory,and he shall rise over all his channels, and flow over all his banks; \fs158 and roll on throughout Judahoverflow and pass along, till unto the neck, he shall reach,and it shall be, that, the stretching out of his wings, shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel!9 Rage, O ye peoples,and be overthrown, And give ear, all ye distant parts of the earth,Gird yourselves and be overthrown, Gird yourselves, and be overthrown:10 Determine a plan,and it shall be frustrated,Speak a word, and it shall not stand, For With-us-is-GOD!11 For, thus, spake Yahweh unto me like a firm grasp of the hand,when he admonished me, not to walk in the way of this people, saying:12 Ye shall not sayA confederacy! of everything of which this people may say. A confederacy! And their fear, shall ye not fear or regard as awful:13 Yahweh of hosts, him, shall ye hallow,And let, him, be your fear, and let, him inspire you with awe;14 So shall he become a hallowed asylum,But a stone to strike against, and a rock to stumble over unto both houses of Israel A trap and a snare to the dweller in Jerusalem;15 And many, shall stumble among them,and fall and be torn, and snared, and captured.16 Bind thou up the testimony,Seal the instruction amongst my disciples.17 I will therefore long for Yahweh, Who is hiding his face from the house of Jacob,And will wait, for him.18 Lo! I and the children whom Yahweh hath given me, are for signs and for wonders in Israel,from Yahweh of hosts, who is making his habitation in Mount Zion.19 But, when they say unto youSeek ye unto the necromancers and unto the wizards, who chirp, and who mutter, Should not u people seek, unto its God? In behalf of the living, unto the dead?20 To the law and to the testimony! If they speak not according to this word, , because they have no dawning day.21 Therefore shall they pass through it hard pressed and hungry,And it shall be when they hunger, then will they rage and revile their king and their god and turn their faces upwards;22 And unto the land, shall they look hard, And lo! distress and darkness, the gloom of anguish, driven away!

1 Disse-me também o Senhor: Toma um grande volume e escreve nele em estilo de homem: Apressando-se ao despojo, apressou-se à presa. 2 Então, tomei comigo fiéis testemunhas, a Urias, sacerdote, e a Zacarias, filho de Jeberequias.

3 E fui ter com a profetisa; e ela concebeu e deu à luz um filho; e o Senhor me disse: Põe-lhe o nome de Maer-Salal-Hás-Baz. 4 Porque, antes que o menino saiba dizer meu pai ou minha mãe, se levarão as riquezas de Damasco e os despojos de Samaria, diante do rei da Assíria.

5 E continuou o Senhor a falar ainda comigo, dizendo: 6 Porquanto este povo desprezou as águas de Siloé que correm brandamente e com Rezim e com o filho de Remalias se alegrou, 7 eis que o Senhor fará vir sobre eles as águas do rio, fortes e impetuosas, isto é, o rei da Assíria, com toda a sua glória; e subirá sobre todos os seus leitos e transbordará por todas as suas ribanceiras; 8 e passará a Judá, inundando-o, e irá passando por ele, e chegará até ao pescoço; e a extensão de suas asas encherá a largura da tua terra, ó Emanuel.

9 Alvoroçai-vos, ó povos, e sereis quebrantados; dai ouvidos, todos os que sois de longínquas terras; cingi-vos e sereis feitos em pedaços, cingi-vos e sereis feitos em pedaços. 10 Tomai juntamente conselho, e ele será dissipado; dizei a palavra, e ela não subsistirá, porque Deus é conosco. 11 Porque assim o Senhor me disse com uma forte mão e me ensinou que não andasse pelo caminho deste povo, dizendo: 12 Não chameis conjuração a tudo quanto este povo chama conjuração; e não temais o seu temor, nem tampouco vos assombreis. 13 Ao Senhor dos Exércitos, a ele santificai; e seja ele o vosso temor, e seja ele o vosso assombro. 14 Então, ele vos será santuário, mas servirá de pedra de tropeço e de rocha de escândalo às duas casas de Israel; de laço e rede, aos moradores de Jerusalém. 15 E muitos dentre eles tropeçarão, e cairão, e serão quebrantados, e enlaçados, e presos. 16 Liga o testemunho e sela a lei entre os meus discípulos. 17 E esperarei o Senhor, que esconde o rosto da casa de Jacó, e a ele aguardarei. 18 Eis-me aqui, com os filhos que me deu o Senhor, como sinais e maravilhas em Israel da parte do Senhor dos Exércitos, que habita no monte de Sião.

19 Quando vos disserem: Consultai os que têm espíritos familiares e os adivinhos, que chilreiam e murmuram entre dentes; — não recorrerá um povo ao seu Deus? A favor dos vivos interrogar-se-ão os mortos? 20 À lei e ao testemunho! Se eles não falarem segundo esta palavra, nunca verão a alva. 21 E passarão pela terra duramente oprimidos e famintos; e será que, tendo fome e enfurecendo-se, então, amaldiçoarão ao seu rei e ao seu Deus, olhando para cima. 22 E, olhando para a terra, eis que haverá angústia e escuridão, e serão entenebrecidos com ânsias e arrastados para a escuridão.
