1 Alas! for them who are going down to Egypt for help, On horses, would rely,And have trustedIn chariotsbecause they are many, and In horsemen, because they are very bold, But have not looked unto the Holy One of Israel, And onto Yahweh, have not sought.2 But, he also, is wise, and hath brought in calamity, And his own words, hath he not set aside,Therefore will he rise up, Against the house of evil-doers, and Against the help of the workers of iniquity.3 Now, the Egyptians, are, men, and not, GOD, And their horses, flesh, and not, spirit; When, Yahweh, shall stretch out his hand, Then I he that is giving help, shall stumble And I he that is receiving help shall fall, And together, shall all of them vanish!4 For Thus, hath Yahweh said unto meLike as a lion or a young lion growleth over his prey. Whothough there be called out against him a multitude of shepherdsWill not at their voice, be dismayed, Nor, at their noise, be daunted, So, will Yahweh of hosts come down, to make war over Mount Zion, and over the hill thereof.5 As little mother-birds hovering, so, will Yahweh of hosts throw a covering ever Jerusalem,Covering, so will he rescue, Passing over, so will he deliver!6 Return ye unto him against whom the sons of Israel have deeply revolted,7 For in that day, will every man reject his idols of silver, and his idols of gold,Which your hands had made for you as a sin!8 Then shall the Assyrian fall, by the sword, not of a great man, And the sword, not of a mean man, shall devour him,Howbeit he shall take his flight from the face of a sword, And his young men, shall come under tribute;9 And his own Cliff, through terror, shall he pass by, And his princes shall be dismayed at an ensign,Declareth Yahweh. Who hath a flame in Zion, And hath a furnace in Jerusalem.

1 Ai dos que descem ao Egito a buscar socorro e se estribam em cavalos! Têm confiança em carros, porque são muitos, e nos cavaleiros, porque são poderosíssimos; e não atentam para o Santo de Israel e não buscam ao Senhor. 2 Todavia, também ele é sábio, e fará vir o mal, e não retirará as suas palavras; ele se levantará contra a casa dos malfeitores e contra a ajuda dos que praticam a iniquidade. 3 Porque os egípcios são homens e não Deus; e os seus cavalos, carne e não espírito; e, quando o Senhor estender a mão, todos cairão por terra, tanto o auxiliador como o ajudado, e todos juntamente serão consumidos. 4 Porque assim me disse o Senhor: Como o leão e o filhote do leão rugem sobre a sua presa, ainda que se convoque contra eles uma multidão de pastores, e não se espantam das suas vozes, nem se abatem pela sua multidão, assim o Senhor dos Exércitos descerá para pelejar pelo monte Sião e pelo seu outeiro. 5 Como as aves voam, assim o Senhor dos Exércitos amparará a Jerusalém; ele a amparará, e a livrará, e, passando, a salvará.

6 Convertei-vos, pois, àquele contra quem os filhos de Israel se rebelaram tão profundamente. 7 Porque, naquele dia, cada um lançará fora os seus ídolos de prata e os seus ídolos de ouro, que fabricaram as vossas mãos para pecardes. 8 E a Assíria cairá pela espada e não por varão; e a espada, não de homem, a consumirá; e fugirá perante a espada, e os seus jovens serão derrotados. 9 E, de medo, passará a sua rocha de refúgio, e os seus príncipes desertarão a bandeira, diz o Senhor, cujo fogo está em Sião e cuja fornalha, em Jerusalém.
