1 Let me sing, I pray you, for a well-beloved of mine, The song of my beloved concerning his vineyard:A vineyard, had my well-beloved on a very fruitful hill;2 And he thoroughly digged it, And gathered out the stones thereof, And planted it with a precious vine, And built a tower in the midst thereof, Moreover also a wine-press, hewed he therein,Then waited he that it should bring forth grapes. And it brought forth wild grapes:3 Now, therefore, O inhabitant of Jerusalem, And men of Judah,Judge, I pray you, betwixt me, and my vineyard:4 What could have been done further to my vineyard, That I had not done in it? Why thenWhen I had waited that it should bring forth grapes, Brought it forth, wild grapes?5 Now, therefore, I pray you, let me tell, you, what I am about to do to my vineyard,To take away the fence thereof And it shall be eaten up, To destroy the wall thereof And it shall be trodden down;6 And I will make it a waste;It shall be neither pruned nor hoed, But there shall come up briars and thorns,And upon the clouds, will I lay a charge, That they rain thereon no rain.7 Surely the vineyard of Yahweh of hosts, is the house of Israel, And, the men of Judah, are the plantation in which he dearly delighted,And he waited, For equity but lo! murderous iniquity, For the rule of right but lo the cry of the wronged.8 Alas for them who join house to house, Field to field, bring they near,Until there is no room, But ye are left to dwell alone in the midst of the land.9 In mine ears, Yahweh of hosts,Verily, houses in abundance, shall become, a desolation, Large and fair, without inhabitant;10 For, ten yokes of vineyard, shall yield one bath,And the seed of a homer, shall yield an ephah,11 Alas, for them who rise early in the morning that strong drink, they may pursue,Who follow on in the evening cool with wine, they are heated;12 And it cometh to passthat lyre and harp, timbrel and flute and wine are in their banquets,But, the doing of Yahweh, they do not discern, And the work of his hands, have they not seen.13 Therefore, are my people taken away captive before they know it,And their honourable mean are famished with hunger, And, their multitude, do gape for thirst.14 Therefore, hath hades enlarged her desire, And opened her mouth to its widest,And their glory, and their multitude and their pomp. and he that is uproarious shall descend thereinto.15 And the mean man hath been bowed down And the mighty man hath been humbled,Yea the looks of the haughty shall be humbled.16 But Yahweh of hosts, hath been exalted, in justice,And the GOD that is holy hath been hallowed in righteousness;17 Then shall the young rams feed where they please,And, the wastes of the wealthy, shall strangers consume.18 Alas! for them Who draw on themselves punishment with cords of falsehood,And as with waggon-bands, penalty:19 Who sayLet his work quickenlet it hasten, That we may see,And let the purpose of Israels Holy One, draw near and come. That we may know!20 Alas! for them Who call evil good and good evil,Who put darkness for light and light for darkness, Who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.21 Alas for them Who are wise in their own eyes,And in their own sight, are prudent.22 Alas for them Who are heroes to drink wine,And men of valour to mingle strong drink,23 Who justify the lawless, for a bribe,Whereas the righteousness of the righteous, they take from him.24 Therefore, As a tongue of fire, eateth up straw, And a flame reduceth, dry grass, to powder, Their root, like rottenness, shall become, And their blossom, like dust shall ascend,Because they refused the law of Yahweh of hosts, And the utterance of the Holy One of Israel, they despised.25 For this cause, did the anger of Yahweh kindle upon his own people, And he stretched out his hand against them and smote themSo that the mountains, trembled, And, their dead bodies, served, for fuel in the midst of the streets. For all this, hath his anger, not turned back, But still, is his hand outstretched,26 Therefore will he lift up an ensign to the nations afar off, And signal for him from the end of the earth,And lo! with hot haste, will he come:27 None shall be weary, and none shall stumble in his midst, He shall neither slumber nor sleep,Nor shall be loosened, the girdle of his loins, Nor snapped, the thong of his sandals:28 Whose arrows, are sharpened, and all his bows, bent,The hoofs of his horses, like flint, are accounted, And, his wheels, like a storm-wind:29 A roar, hath he, like a lioness,He will roar like wild lionsAnd will growl, and lay hold on prey, and carry into safety, and there be none to deliver.30 Yea he will growl at him in that day, like the growling of the sea,Though he look hard for the land, lo! the darkness of distress, Yea the light, hath grown dark in its clouds!

1 Agora, cantarei ao meu amado o cântico do meu querido a respeito da sua vinha. O meu amado tem uma vinha em um outeiro fértil. 2 E a cercou, e a limpou das pedras, e a plantou de excelentes vides; e edificou no meio dela uma torre e também construiu nela um lagar; e esperava que desse uvas boas, mas deu uvas bravas. 3 Agora, pois, ó moradores de Jerusalém e homens de Judá, julgai, vos peço, entre mim e a minha vinha. 4 Que mais se podia fazer à minha vinha, que eu lhe não tenha feito? E como, esperando eu que desse uvas boas, veio a produzir uvas bravas? 5 Agora, pois, vos farei saber o que eu hei de fazer à minha vinha: tirarei a sua sebe, para que sirva de pasto; derribarei a sua parede, para que seja pisada; 6 e a tornarei em deserto; não será podada, nem cavada; mas crescerão nela sarças e espinheiros; e às nuvens darei ordem que não derramem chuva sobre ela. 7 Porque a vinha do Senhor dos Exércitos é a casa de Israel, e os homens de Judá são a planta das suas delícias; e esperou que exercessem juízo, e eis aqui opressão; justiça, e eis aqui clamor.

8 Ai dos que ajuntam casa a casa, reúnem herdade a herdade, até que não haja mais lugar, e fiquem como únicos moradores no meio da terra! 9 A meus ouvidos disse o Senhor dos Exércitos: Em verdade que muitas casas ficarão desertas, e até as grandes e excelentes, sem moradores. 10 E dez jeiras de vinha não darão mais do que um bato; e um ômer de semente não dará mais do que um efa.

11 Ai dos que se levantam pela manhã e seguem a bebedice! E se demoram até à noite, até que o vinho os esquenta! 12 Harpas, e alaúdes, e tamboris e pífanos, e vinho há nos seus banquetes; e não olham para a obra do Senhor, nem consideram as obras das suas mãos. 13 Portanto, o meu povo será levado cativo, por falta de entendimento; e os seus nobres terão fome, e a sua multidão se secará de sede. 14 Por isso, a sepultura aumentou o seu apetite e abriu a boca desmesuradamente; e a glória deles, e a sua multidão, e a sua pompa, e os que entre eles folgavam a ela desceram. 15 Então, o plebeu se abaterá, e o nobre se humilhará; e os olhos dos altivos se humilharão. 16 Mas o Senhor dos Exércitos será exaltado em juízo, e Deus, o Santo, será santificado em justiça. 17 Então, os cordeiros se pascerão como em pastios seus; e os lugares pisados pelos gordos servirão de alimento a forasteiros.

18 Ai dos que puxam pela iniquidade com cordas de vaidade e pelo pecado, como se fosse com cordas de carros! 19 E dizem: Apresse-se e acabe a sua obra, para que a vejamos; e aproxime-se e venha o conselho do Santo de Israel, para que o conheçamos.

20 Ai dos que ao mal chamam bem e ao bem, mal! Que fazem da escuridade luz, e da luz, escuridade, e fazem do amargo doce, e do doce, amargo!

21 Ai dos que são sábios a seus próprios olhos e prudentes diante de si mesmos!

22 Ai dos que são poderosos para beber vinho e homens forçosos para misturar bebida forte!

23 Ai dos que justificam o ímpio por presentes e ao justo negam justiça!

24 Pelo que, como a língua de fogo consome a estopa, e a palha se desfaz pela chama, assim será a sua raiz, como podridão, e a sua flor se esvaecerá como pó; porquanto rejeitaram a lei do Senhor dos Exércitos e desprezaram a palavra do Santo de Israel. 25 Pelo que se acendeu a ira do Senhor contra o seu povo, e estendeu a mão contra ele e o feriu; e as montanhas tremeram, e os seus cadáveres eram como monturo no meio das ruas; com tudo isto não tornou atrás a sua ira, mas ainda está alçada a sua mão.

26 E ele arvorará o estandarte ante as nações de longe e lhes assobiará desde a extremidade da terra; e eis que virão apressadamente. 27 Não haverá entre elas cansado, nem claudicante; ninguém tosquenejará, nem dormirá; não se lhe desatará o cinto dos seus lombos, nem se lhe quebrará a correia dos seus sapatos. 28 As suas flechas serão agudas, e todos os seus arcos, retesados; as unhas dos seus cavalos dir-se-iam de pederneira, e as rodas dos seus carros, um redemoinho. 29 O seu rugido será como o do leão; rugirão como filhos de leão; sim, rugirão, e arrebatarão a presa, e a levarão, e não haverá quem a livre. 30 E bramarão contra eles, naquele dia, como o bramido do mar; e, se alguém olhar para a terra, eis que só verá trevas e ânsia, e a luz se escurecerá em suas assolações.
