1 Contend, O Yahweh, with them who contend with me, Make war upon them who make war upon me.2 Grasp buckler and shield, and arise in my help;3 Then draw the spear, and close up against my pursuers, Say to my soul, Thy salvation, I am!4 Let them be ashamed and confounded, who are seeking my life,Let them turn back and be put to the blush, who are devising my hurt:5 Let them be as chaff before the wind, with, the messenger of Yahweh, pressing them on:6 Let their way become dark and slippery, with, the messenger of Yahweh, pursuing them.7 For, without cause, have they hid for me, in a ditch, their net,Without cause, have they digged for my life.8 There shall reach him a ruin he could not know,Yea, his own net which he hath hidden, shall capture him, Into that ruin, shall he fall!9 But, my soul, shall exult in Yahweh,shall be glad in his salvation.10 All my bones, shall sayO Yahweh, who is like unto thee? Rescuing the oppressed from one stronger than he, Yea the oppressed and the needy, from their spoiler.11 There rise up witnesses helping forward violence and wrong, What I know not, they demand of me:12 They repay me evil for good, Bereaving my soul.13 But, as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth, I humbled, with fasting, my soul, though, my prayer, unto mine own bosom, might return:14 Like as for a friend, like as for a brother of mine own, I walked to and fro, As though mourning for a mother, I gloomily bowed myself down.15 But, in mine overthrow, have they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together,There gathered themselves together against me foolish men, and I knew it not, They have torn in pieces, and not been silent;16 Amidst profane praters of perversion, have they gnashed upon me with their teeth.17 My Lord! how long wilt thou look on? Bring back my soul out of their raging, from among lions, my solitary self.18 I will thank thee, in the midst of a great convocation,In the midst of a mighty people, will I praise thee.19 Let not them who are falsely my foes rejoice over me, As for them who hate me without cause, let them not wink the eye!20 For, no salvation, will they utter,But, against the quiet of the land, deceitful things, do they devise;21 Yea they have opened wide against me their mouth, They have said, Aha! Aha! our own eye, hath seen!22 Thou hast seen, O Yahweh, do not keep silence! O My Lord! be not far from me:23 Bestir thyself and wake up, to my vindication, O my God and My Lord!to my plea:24 Vindicate me according to thy righteousness, O Yahweh, my God! And let them not rejoice over me:25 Let them not say in their heart, Aha! to our mind! Let them not say, We have swallowed him up!26 Let them turn pale, and then at once blush, who are rejoicing at my misfortune,Let them be clothed with shame and confusion, who are magnifying themselves against me.27 Let them shout in triumph and rejoice, who are desiring my justification; And let them say continually, Yahweh be magnified, Who hath taken pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.28 Mine own tongue also, shall softly utter thy righteousness,All the day long,thy praise!

1 Pleiteia, Senhor, com aqueles que pleiteiam comigo; peleja contra os que pelejam contra mim. 2 Pega do escudo e da rodela e levanta-te em minha ajuda. 3 Tira da lança e obstrui o caminho aos que me perseguem; dize à minha alma: Eu sou a tua salvação.

4 Sejam confundidos e envergonhados os que buscam a minha vida; voltem atrás e envergonhem-se os que contra mim intentam o mal. 5 Sejam como pragana perante o vento; o anjo do Senhor os faça fugir. 6 Seja o seu caminho tenebroso e escorregadio, e o anjo do Senhor os persiga. 7 Porque sem causa encobriram de mim a rede na cova, que sem razão cavaram para a minha alma. 8 Sobrevenha-lhes destruição sem o saberem, e prenda-os a rede que ocultaram; caiam eles nessa mesma destruição.

9 E a minha alma se alegrará no Senhor; alegrar-se-á na sua salvação. 10 Todos os meus ossos dirão: Senhor, quem é como tu? Pois livras o pobre daquele que é mais forte do que ele; sim, o pobre e o necessitado, daquele que os rouba.

11 Falsas testemunhas se levantaram; depuseram contra mim coisas que eu não sabia. 12 Tornaram-me o mal pelo bem, roubando a minha alma. 13 Mas, quanto a mim, quando estavam enfermos, a minha veste era pano de saco; humilhava a minha alma com o jejum, e a minha oração voltava para o meu seio. 14 Portava-me com ele como se fora meu irmão ou amigo; andava lamentando e muito encurvado, como quem chora por sua mãe. 15 Mas eles com a minha adversidade se alegravam e se congregavam; os abjetos se congregavam contra mim, e eu não o sabia; rasgavam-me e não cessavam. 16 Como hipócritas zombadores nas festas, rangiam os dentes contra mim.

17 Senhor, até quando verás isto? Resgata a minha alma das suas assolações, e a minha predileta, dos leões. 18 Louvar-te-ei na grande congregação; entre muitíssimo povo te celebrarei. 19 Não se alegrem de mim os meus inimigos sem razão, nem pisquem os olhos aqueles que me aborrecem sem causa. 20 Pois não falam de paz; antes, projetam enganar os quietos da terra. 21 Abrem a boca de par em par contra mim e dizem: Ah! Ah! Os nossos olhos o viram! 22 Tu, Senhor, o viste, não te cales; Senhor, não te alongues de mim; 23 desperta e acorda para o meu julgamento, para a minha causa, Deus meu e Senhor meu! 24 Julga-me segundo a tua justiça, Senhor, Deus meu, e não deixes que se alegrem de mim. 25 Não digam em seu coração: Eia, sus, alma nossa! Não digam: Nós o havemos devorado! 26 Envergonhem-se e confundam-se à uma os que se alegram com o meu mal; vistam-se de vergonha e de confusão os que se engrandecem contra mim.

27 Cantem e alegrem-se os que amam a minha justiça, e digam continuamente: O Senhor, que ama a prosperidade do seu servo, seja engrandecido. 28 E assim a minha língua falará da tua justiça e do teu louvor, todo o dia.
