1 O GOD of avengingYahweh, GOD of avenging, shine forth:2 Lift up thyself, O judge of the earth, Render a recompense unto the proud.3 How long shall the lawless, O Yahweh, How long shall the lawless exult?4 They pour forth , they speak arrogantly, All the workers of iniquity, do boast:5 Thy people, O Yahweh, they will crush, And, thine inheritance, tread down;6 The widow and sojourner, they will slay, And, the fatherless, murder.7 Yet have they saidYah, doth not see, The God of Jacob, doth not understand.8 Understand, ye brutish among the people, And, ye dullards, when will ye show discretion?9 He that planteth the ear, shall he not hear? Or, that fashioneth the eye, shall he not have power to see?10 He that correcteth nations, shall he not reprove? He that teacheth man knowledge!11 Yahweh, knoweth the plans of men, That, they, are a breath!12 How happy the man whom thou correctest, O Yah! And whom, out of thy law, thou instructest!13 That thou mayest give him rest from the days of misfortune, Until there be diggedfor the lawless onea pit.14 For Yahweh, will not abandon, his people, And, his inheritance, will he not forsake;15 For, unto righteousness, shall the judicial sentence return, Then shall follow itall the upright in heart.16 Who will rise up for me, against the evil-doers? Who will make a stand for me, against the workers of iniquity?17 If, Yahweh, had not been a help to me, Soon had sunk into silencemy soul!18 If I say, My foot, hath slipped, Thy lovingkindness, O Yahweh, supporteth me.19 In the multitude of my cares within me, Thy consolations, delight my soul.20 Shall the throne that inflicteth ruin, have fellowship with thee, That frameth oppression, by statute?21 They make an attack on the life of the righteous one,And, innocent blood, they condemn.22 But, Yahweh, hath become for me a high tower, And my God, my rock of refuge.23 Thus hath he brought back on them their iniquity, And, by their own wickedness, will he destroy them, Destroy them, will Yahweh our God.

1 Ó Senhor Deus, a quem a vingança pertence, ó Deus, a quem a vingança pertence, mostra-te resplandecente! 2 Exalta-te, tu, que és juiz da terra; dá o pago aos soberbos. 3 Até quando os ímpios, Senhor, até quando os ímpios saltarão de prazer?

4 Até quando proferirão e dirão coisas duras e se gloriarão todos os que praticam a iniquidade? 5 Reduzem a pedaços o teu povo, Senhor, e afligem a tua herança. 6 Matam a viúva e o estrangeiro e ao órfão tiram a vida. 7 E dizem: O Senhor não o verá; nem para isso atentará o Deus de Jacó.

8 Atendei, ó brutais dentre o povo; e vós, loucos, quando sereis sábios? 9 Aquele que fez o ouvido, não ouvirá? E o que formou o olho, não verá? 10 Aquele que argui as nações, não castigará? E o que dá ao homem o conhecimento, não saberá? 11 O Senhor conhece os pensamentos do homem, que são vaidade.

12 Bem-aventurado é o homem a quem tu repreendes, ó Senhor, e a quem ensinas a tua lei, 13 para lhe dares descanso dos dias maus, até que se abra a cova para o ímpio. 14 Pois o Senhor não rejeitará o seu povo, nem desamparará a sua herança. 15 Mas o juízo voltará a ser justiça, e hão de segui-lo todos os retos de coração.

16 Quem será por mim contra os malfeitores? Quem se porá ao meu lado contra os que praticam a iniquidade? 17 Se o Senhor não fora em meu auxílio, já a minha alma habitaria no lugar do silêncio. 18 Quando eu disse: O meu pé vacila; a tua benignidade, Senhor, me susteve. 19 Multiplicando-se dentro de mim os meus cuidados, as tuas consolações reanimaram a minha alma.

20 Podia, acaso, associar-se contigo o trono de iniquidade, que forja o mal tendo por pretexto uma lei? 21 Acorrem em tropel contra a vida do justo e condenam o sangue inocente. 22 Mas o Senhor foi o meu alto retiro; e o meu Deus, a rocha em que me refugiei. 23 E fará recair sobre eles a sua própria iniquidade; e os destruirá na sua própria malícia; o Senhor, nosso Deus, os destruirá.
