1 Μήνυμα για τους Φιλισταίους, που ο Κύριος διαβίβασε στον προφήτη Ιερεμία, πριν ο Φαραώ της Αιγύπτου επιτεθεί εναντίον της Γάζας.

2 «Ο Κύριος λέει: "νερά έρχονται από το βορρά*Βλ. υποσ. εις κεφ. 1:14. και θα γίνουνε σαν το ξέχειλο ποτάμι. Τη χώρα θα τη σκεπάσουν, τους κατοίκους κι όλα όσα βρίσκονται σ’ αυτές τις πολιτείες. Τότε οι άνθρωποι θα ξεφωνίζουν κι οι κάτοικοι της χώρας θα κλαίνε πικρά, 3 όταν θ’ ακούν τον κρότο απ’ τις οπλές των δυνατών αλόγων, το θόρυβο των αμαξών και των τροχών τον ήχο. Τότε οι πατέρες για τα παιδιά τους δε θα φροντίζουνε, γιατί θα έχουν παραλύσει από τον τρόμο. 4 Έρχεται η μέρα της καταστροφής όλων των Φιλισταίων. Κανένας δε θα μείνει για να βοηθήσει την Τύρο και τη Σιδώνα,*Κανένας... Σιδώνα. Προφανώς οι Φιλισταίοι είχαν υποσχεθεί να βοηθήσουν στρατιωτικώς την Τύρο και τη Σιδώνα. γιατί ο Κύριος θα καταστρέψει τους Φιλισταίους, θα εξολοθρέψει από της Κρήτης το νησί όσους θα έχουν επιζήσει"».

5 Οι κάτοικοι της Γάζας ξύρισαν τα κεφάλια τους απ’ τη μεγάλη λύπη. Οι κάτοικοι της Ασκάλωνας βυθίστηκαν στη σιωπή! Ως πότε εσείς που επιζήσατε από τους Ανακίμ*Πρβλ. Β΄ Σαμ 21:22 και Ιησ 11:21-22· 15:14. θα κάνετε εντομές στα σώματά σας; 6 Αλίμονο, εσύ ξίφος του Κυρίου, δε θα ξεκουραστείς; Μπες μέσα στη θήκη σου, ησύχασε και μην κινείσαι. 7 Μα πώς να ησυχάσεις, όταν ο Κύριος σε διατάζει να χτυπάς την Ασκάλωνα και να χτυπάς των παραλίων τους κατοίκους;
