1 Ο Κύριος μου είπε: «Πήγαινε ν’ αγοράσεις ένα λινό ζωνάρι και τύλιξε μ’ αυτό τους γοφούς σου κατάσαρκα, αλλά χωρίς να το πλύνεις». 2 Αγόρασα, λοιπόν, το ζωνάρι, όπως μου είπε ο Κύριος, και το τύλιξα στους γοφούς μου. 3 Έπειτα ο Κύριος μου μίλησε πάλι και μου είπε: 4 «Πάρε το ζωνάρι που αγόρασες και το τύλιξες στους γοφούς σου, και πήγαινε στο χείμαρρο Φάρα*Φάρα, σύμφωνα με την αρχ. ελλ. μετ. του Ακύλα. Το εβρ. έχει «Ευφράτης». Ο Φάρα είναι παραπόταμος του Ιορδάνη, μια ώρα πορεία βόρεια της Αναθώθ. και κρύψε το εκεί σε μια σχισμή του βράχου». 5 Πήγα, λοιπόν, και την έκρυψα στον Φάρα, σύμφωνα με την εντολή του Κυρίου. 6 Μετά από πολλές μέρες μου είπε ο Κύριος: «Πήγαινε στον Φάρα και πάρε το ζωνάρι που σε διέταξα να το κρύψεις εκεί». 7 Πήγα λοιπόν στον Φάρα, έσκαψα και πήρα το ζωνάρι από το μέρος που το είχα κρύψει· ήταν όμως φθαρμένο και άχρηστο.

8,9 Τότε μου είπε ο Κύριος: «Έτσι θα καταρρακώσω τη δόξα για την οποία περηφανεύονται οι κάτοικοι του Ιούδα, τη μεγάλη περηφάνια της Ιερουσαλήμ. 10 Ο κακός αυτός λαός αρνείται να υπακούσει στα λόγια μου και παρασύρεται απ’ τις αδυναμίες της καρδιάς του· ακολουθεί άλλους θεούς, τους λατρεύει και τους προσκυνά. Γι’ αυτό θα γίνει σαν το άχρηστο ζωνάρι. 11 Αλλά όπως το ζωνάρι τυλίγεται κατάσαρκα στους γοφούς, έτσι ήθελα να προσκολληθεί σ’ εμένα η φυλή του Ισραήλ και η φυλή του Ιούδα», λέει ο Κύριος, «για να είναι λαός μου, το καύχημά μου και να μου προσδίδουν δόξα και τιμή. Αλλά αυτοί δε με υπάκουσαν».

12 Ο Κύριος ο Θεός του Ισραήλ με διέταξε: «Πες στο λαό εκ μέρους μου ότι κάθε στάμνα μπορεί να γεμίσει με κρασί. Όταν αυτοί σου απαντήσουν: "το ξέρουμε καλά πως όλες οι στάμνες μπορούν να γεμίσουν με κρασί!" 13 τότε θα τους πεις ότι εγώ ο Κύριος λέω: Θα ποτίσω με κρασί όλους τους κατοίκους αυτής της χώρας, τους βασιλιάδες που είναι απόγονοι του Δαβίδ, τους ιερείς και τους προφήτες και όλους τους κατοίκους της Ιερουσαλήμ, ώσπου να μεθύσουν. 14 Θα τους συντρίψω όπως τα σταμνιά, ρίχνοντας τον ένα πάνω στον άλλον, τους πατέρες και τους γιους μαζί. Δε θα τους σπλαχνιστώ, δε θα τους λυπηθώ ούτε και θα τους ελεήσω· θα τους καταστρέψω! Εγώ το λέω, ο Κύριος».

15 Ακούστε και προσέξτε! Μην περηφανεύεστε. Ο Κύριος σας μιλάει. 16 Δοξάστε τον Κύριο, το Θεό σας, προτού σας στείλει το σκοτάδι και σκοντάψουνε τα πόδια σας στα βουνά. Προσμένατε το φως, αλλά ο Κύριος θα το μετατρέψει σε σκιά θανάτου και σε σκοτάδι ζοφερό. 17 Αν δεν δώσετε προσοχή σ’ αυτή την προειδοποίηση, θα κλάψω κάπου απόμερα για την αλαζονεία σας. Πικρά θα κλάψω κι άφθονα δάκρυα θα χύσω, γιατί οδηγείται στην αιχμαλωσία του Κυρίου ο λαός.

18 Πείτε στο βασιλιά και στη βασιλομήτορα: «Ταπεινωθείτε! Κατεβείτε από το θρόνο σας, γιατί έχουνε κιόλας πέσει απ’ τα κεφάλια σας τα δοξασμένα στέμματα. 19 Οι πόλεις του νότιου τμήματος του Ιούδα έχουν αποκλειστεί, κανένας δεν θα μπορεί δρόμο ν’ ανοίξει ως εκεί· όλοι οι κάτοικοι του Ιούδα έχουνε στην αιχμαλωσία συρθεί».*Οι στ. 18-19 αναφέρονται στα γεγονότα του Β΄ Βασ 24:8-10. Η βασιλομήτωρ αναφέρεται ιδιαίτερα εδώ, γιατί ο βασιλιάς ήταν πολύ νέος και επιτροπευόταν απ’ αυτήν.

20 Ιερουσαλήμ, τα μάτια σήκωσε και δες· από το βορρά*από το βορρά. Βλ. υποσ. εις κεφ. 1:14. έρχονται οι εχθροί σου! Τι θα συμβεί στις πόλεις του Ιούδα; Σου δόθηκαν ωσάν κοπάδι ωραία πρόβατα, που γι’ αυτά υπερηφανευόσουν. 21 Και τι θα πεις όταν ο Κύριος σε υποτάξει στους εχθρούς σου, που τους θεωρούσες φίλους σου; Οι πόνοι θα σε πιάσουν, σαν τη γυναίκα που γεννάει. 22 Κι αν αναρωτηθείς: «Γιατί συμβαίνουν όλα αυτά σ’ εμένα;» Είναι για τις πολλές τις αμαρτίες σου που σου σηκώνουν τα φορέματα και σε βιάζουν.

23 Ο Κύριος λέει: «Μπορεί ν’ αλλάξει ο μαύρος το χρώμα του ή η λεοπάρδαλη τα στίγματά της; Άλλο τόσο κι εσείς μπορείτε ν’ αλλάξετε και να κάνετε το καλό, τώρα που έχετε μάθει να κάνετε το κακό. 24 Θα σας διασκορπίσω σαν το άχυρο, που της ερήμου ο άνεμος το παίρνει.

25 »Αυτός είναι ο κλήρος σου, η μερίδα που σου έδωσα», λέει ο Κύριος· «επειδή με ξέχασες κι έδωσες πίστη στα είδωλα. 26 Γι’ αυτό εγώ ο ίδιος θα σηκώσω ως το πρόσωπό σου τα φορέματά σου και θα φανεί η ντροπή της γύμνιας σου. 27 Βαρέθηκα πια τις μοιχείες σου, τα χρεμετίσματά σου, τις αισχρές πορνείες σου και τα είδωλά σου πάνω στους λόφους και μέσα στους αγρούς. Αλίμονό σου, Ιερουσαλήμ! Πότε πια θα καθαριστείς απ’ αυτά τα μολύσματα;»

1 Thus saith the LORD unto me, Go and get thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water. 2 So I got a girdle according to the word of the LORD, and put it on my loins. 3 And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying, 4 Take the girdle that thou hast got, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock. 5 So I went, and hid it by Euphrates, as the LORD commanded me. 6 And it came to pass after many days, that the LORD said unto me, Arise, go to Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there. 7 Then I went to Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it: and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing. 8 Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 9 Thus saith the LORD, After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem. 10 This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing.*13.10 imagination: or, stubbornness 11 For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the LORD; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.

12 Therefore thou shalt speak unto them this word; Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Every bottle shall be filled with wine: and they shall say unto thee, Do we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine? 13 Then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David’s throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness. 14 And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith the LORD: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them.*13.14 one…: Heb. a man against his brother*13.14 but…: Heb. from destroying them

15 Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud: for the LORD hath spoken. 16 Give glory to the LORD your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness. 17 But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the LORD’s flock is carried away captive. 18 Say unto the king and to the queen, Humble yourselves, sit down: for your principalities shall come down, even the crown of your glory.*13.18 principalities: or, head tires 19 The cities of the south shall be shut up, and none shall open them: Judah shall be carried away captive all of it, it shall be wholly carried away captive. 20 Lift up your eyes, and behold them that come from the north: where is the flock that was given thee, thy beautiful flock? 21 What wilt thou say when he shall punish thee? for thou hast taught them to be captains, and as chief over thee: shall not sorrows take thee, as a woman in travail?*13.21 punish: Heb visit upon
