1 «Αλίμονο στους άρχοντες, του λαού μου!» λέει ο Κύριος. «Ποιμένες που καταστρέφουν και διασκορπίζουν τα κοπάδια μου». 2 Γι’ αυτό ο Κύριος, ο Θεός του Ισραήλ, λέει για τους άρχοντες που κυβερνούν το λαό του: «Εσείς διασκορπίσατε το κοπάδι μου, το παραπλανήσατε, δεν το φροντίσατε. Τώρα κι εγώ θα σας τιμωρήσω για τις κακές σας πράξεις.

3 »Εγώ ο ίδιος θα συγκεντρώσω τα υπόλοιπα πρόβατά μου από τις χώρες όπου τα διασκόρπισα και θα τα φέρω πάλι στα βοσκοτόπια τους, θ’ αποκτήσουν πολλά παιδιά και θα πληθύνουν. 4 Θα ορίσω σ’ αυτά ποιμένες να τα κατευθύνουνε· αυτοί θα τα φροντίζουν και χάρη σ’ αυτούς τα πρόβατα δε θα φοβούνται ούτε θα τρομάζουν· κανένα τους δε θα χαθεί ξανά», λέει ο Κύριος.

5 «Έρχεται η μέρα», λέει ο Κύριος, «που θ’ αναδείξω βασιλιά ένα γνήσιο βλαστό του Δαβίδ. Αυτός θα βασιλέψει μ’ επιτυχία· θα κρίνει δίκαια στη χώρα, γιατί ο ίδιος θα υπακούει στο νόμο του Θεού. 6 Στις μέρες του, θα ελευθερωθούν απ’ τους εχθρούς τους οι κάτοικοι του Ιούδα και θα ζήσουν με ασφάλεια οι κάτοικοι του βασιλείου του Ισραήλ. Το όνομα που θα του δοθεί θα ’ναι "ο Κύριος είναι η δικαίωσή μας".*Ο διάδοχος του Ιωαχίν, ο Σεδεκίας (όνομα που εβρ. σημαίνει «Ο Κύριος είναι η δικαίωσή μου»), οδήγησε τον Ιούδα σε πλήρη καταστροφή (βλ. Β΄ Βασ 24:17–25:21). Η προφητεία του στ. 6 θεωρείται ότι εκπληρώθηκε στο πρόσωπο του Ιησού Χριστού (Μτ 1:21· Λκ 1:31-33).

7 »Γι’ αυτό έρχονται μέρες», λέει ο Κύριος, «που όταν ορκίζονται δε θα λένε πια "μα τον αληθινό Θεό, που έβγαλε τους Ισραηλίτες από την Αίγυπτο", 8 αλλά θα λένε "μα τον αληθινό Θεό, που έβγαλε τους απογόνους του Ισραήλ από τη χώρα του βορρά" και από τις άλλες χώρες που τους είχα διασκορπίσει. Τότε θα τους έχω φέρει να κατοικήσουν στη χώρα τους».

9 Λόγοι σχετικοί με τους προφήτες.*Λόγοι... προφήτες. Η φρ. αυτή στο εβρ. αποτελεί επιγραφή σε όλο το κεφάλαιο που ακολουθεί. Ως προς το περιεχόμενο των στ. 9-12, βλ. εις κεφ. 14:13-15.

Η καρδιά μου σπαράζει κι όλο μου το σώμα τρέμει. Είμαι σαν μεθυσμένος, ωσάν αναίσθητος απ’ το κρασί, απ’ όσα ο Κύριος, ο Άγιος Θεός μού είπε:

10 «Η χώρα γέμισε μοιχούς.*μοιχούς. Εδώ ο όρος μπορεί να εκληφθεί μεταφορικά (βλ. κεφ. 3:6-10). Στο στ. 14 όμως έχει την πραγματική της έννοια. Όλοι φέρνονται πονηρά κι είναι στην αδικία ασυναγώνιστοι. Πενθεί η χώρα για την κατάρα του Κυρίου, τα βοσκοτόπια της στέπας ξεράθηκαν. 11 Οι προφήτες και οι ιερείς είναι διεφθαρμένοι· τους έπιασα να ασεβούν και μέσα ακόμη στο ναό μου», λέει ο Κύριος. 12 «Γι’ αυτό θα γλιστρούν και θα πέφτουν στο δρόμο τους. Ο ένας θα παρασύρει τον άλλον στο σκοτάδι και τελικά όλοι μαζί θα γκρεμιστούν. Συμφορά θα φέρω εναντίον τους το χρόνο της τιμωρίας τους. Εγώ το λέω, ο Κύριος».

13 «Είδα τα όσα βδελυρά έκαναν οι προφήτες της Σαμάρειας», λέει ο Κύριος: Προφήτευαν στο όνομα του Βάαλ και παραπλανούσαν το λαό μου τον Ισραήλ. 14 Τώρα όμως βλέπω και τα όσα τερατώδη κάνουν οι προφήτες της Ιερουσαλήμ: Μοιχεύουν και ψεύδονται· ενθαρρύνουν τους ασυνείδητους να κάνουν το κακό και κανένας τους δεν σκέφτεται ν’ αλλάξει. Όλοι αυτοί οι προφήτες είναι για μένα σαν τους κατοίκους των Σοδόμων και οι κάτοικοι της Ιερουσαλήμ σαν τους κατοίκους των Γομόρρων. 15 Γι’ αυτό κι εγώ, ο Κύριος του σύμπαντος, λέω για τους προφήτες της Ιερουσαλήμ: «Θα τους δώσω πικρά χόρτα να φάνε και δηλητήριο να πιουν, γιατί έγιναν εστία μολύνσεως για ολόκληρη τη χώρα».

16 Λέει ο Κύριος του σύμπαντος: «Μην ακούτε τα λόγια των προφητών που σας γεμίζουν με ψεύτικες ελπίδες! Σας μιλάνε για οράματα που βγαίνουν από το μυαλό τους και όχι από το στόμα μου. 17 Λένε διαρκώς σ’ αυτούς που με περιφρονούν: "ο Κύριος είπε πως θα πάνε όλα καλά για σας", ακόμα λένε και σ’ εκείνους που ακολουθούν τις πονηρές επιθυμίες τους πως δε θα τους βρει κακό. 18 Κανείς τους δεν συσκέφθηκε ποτέ μαζί μου ούτε με είδε ούτε άκουσε τα σχέδιά μου. Κανείς δεν πρόσεξε και δεν κατάλαβε τα λόγια μου!»

19 Η οργή του Κυρίου σαν ορμητικός ανεμοστρόβιλος ξέσπασε πάνω στα κεφάλια των ασεβών. 20 Δε θα σταματήσει ωσότου εκπληρώσει αυτό που σκέφτεται ο Κύριος να κάνει. Στις μέρες που έρχονται θα το καταλάβετε καλά.

21 «Δεν τους έστειλα εγώ αυτούς τους προφήτες», λέει ο Κύριος, «όμως αυτοί έτρεξαν να πάνε. Δεν τους μίλησα, όμως αυτοί κηρύττουν εξ ονόματός μου. 22 Αν πράγματι είχαν συσκεφθεί μαζί μου, τότε θα μπορούσαν να κηρύξουν στο λαό μου τα λόγια μου και να τους αποτρέψουν από την κακή ζωή που ζουν κι από τα πονηρά τους έργα. 23 Νομίζετε πως είμαι Θεός που βρίσκομαι κοντά σας;» λέει ο Κύριος. «Όχι! Είμαι Θεός που βρίσκομαι μακριά σας.*Η έννοια του στ. είναι ότι «δεν είμαι Θεός που βρίσκομαι στη διάθεσή σας, αλλά εγώ σας χρησιμοποιώ όπως θέλω».24 Κανείς δεν μπορεί να κρυφτεί κάπου τόσο καλά, που να μην τον βρίσκω. Δεν υπάρχει τόπος στον ουρανό ούτε στη γη που να μην είμαι εκεί».

25 Λέει ο Κύριος: «Άκουσα τις ανοησίες των προφητών που ισχυρίζονται ότι μιλούν εξ ονόματός μου. "Είδα όνειρο, είδα όνειρο!"*είδα όνειρο. Σε αντίθεση με παλαιότερες και μεταγενέστερες μαρτυρίες της Βίβλου (π.χ. Γεν 28:12· Αρ 12:6· Μτ 1:20), αποκαλύψεις και οδηγίες που λαμβάνονται με όνειρο, αντιμετωπίζονται με σκεπτικισμό. Το κατά πόσον ένα μήνυμα προέρχεται ή όχι από το Θεό φαίνεται από το περιεχόμενό του κι από το αποτέλεσμά του (βλ. στ. 27 και 29). λένε. Είναι όμως ψέματα. 26 Ως πότε αυτοί οι προφήτες θα παραπλανούν το λαό μου με ψέματα και θα διαδίδουν τις φαντασιώσεις τους; 27 Αυτοί που καυχώνται ο ένας στον άλλο για τα όνειρά τους, επιδιώκουν να λησμονήσει ο λαός μου ποιος είμαι· όπως με λησμόνησαν οι πρόγονοί τους και στράφηκαν στο Βάαλ.

28 »Ο προφήτης που έχει δει ένα όνειρο ας το διηγηθεί», λέει ο Κύριος. «Κι αυτός που άκουσε το λόγο μου ας τον διακηρύξει πιστά. Θα φανεί πού είναι το άχυρο και πού είναι το σιτάρι! 29 Το δίχως άλλο, ο λόγος μου είναι σαν τη φωτιά, σαν το σφυρί που σπάει το βράχο.

30 »Γι’ αυτό εγώ είμαι εναντίον των προφητών εκείνων, που κλέβουν το μήνυμα ο ένας απ’ τον άλλον και ισχυρίζονται ότι το έχουν πάρει από μένα. 31 Είμαι εναντίον των προφητών εκείνων, που παρουσιάζουν τα δικά τους λόγια για δικά μου. 32 Είμαι εναντίον των προφητών που λέν’ για προφητείες τα όνειρά τους, τα διηγούνται και παραπλανούν το λαό μου με τα χονδροειδή ψεύδη τους. Εγώ δεν τους έδωσα καμιά αποστολή ούτε καμιά εντολή. Θα βλάψουν το λαό αυτό», λέει ο Κύριος.

33 Ο Κύριος μου είπε: «Αν κάποιος από το λαό αυτό ή ένας προφήτης ή ένας ιερέας σε ρωτήσουν, "τι βάρος θα μας φορτώσει πάλι ο Κύριος;" να τους πεις: "εσείς είστε που γίνατε για μένα βάρος", λέει ο Κύριος. "Γι’ αυτό κι εγώ θα σας πετάξω από πάνω μου". 34 Αν κάποιος από το λαό ή ένας προφήτης ή ένας ιερέας τολμήσει να πει, "τι βάρος έβαλε πάνω μας ο Κύριος!" θα τον τιμωρήσω αυτόν και όλη του την οικογένεια».

35 Αντί γι’ αυτό, πρέπει τούτο ο ένας τον άλλο να ρωτάτε: «Τι απάντησε ο Κύριος;» Ή, «τι είπε ο Κύριος;» 36 Δε θα ξαναρωτήσετε πια, «τι βάρος έβαλε ο Κύριος πάνω μας». Αυτός που θα ρωτήσει, θα βάλει βάρος πάνω στον εαυτό του, γιατί διαστρέψατε τους λόγους του αληθινού Θεού, του Κυρίου του σύμπαντος, του Θεού μας. 37 Εκείνο που πρέπει κανείς να ρωτάει τον προφήτη είναι: «Τι απάντησε ο Κύριος;» Ή, «Τι είπε ο Κύριος;» 38 Αν όμως αρχίστε να ξαναρωτάτε: «Τι βάρος θα βάλει πάλι πάνω μας ο Κύριος;» τότε κι εκείνος λέει: «Επειδή δεν υπακούσατε στην προειδοποίησή μου, 39 εγώ θα σας αποτινάξω από πάνω μου σαν αβάσταχτο βάρος και θα σας διώξω από κοντά μου εσάς και την πόλη που έδωσα σ’ εσάς και στους προγόνους σας. 40 Θα φέρω πάνω σας ντροπή και καταισχύνη αιώνια, που δε θα την ξεχάσετε ποτέ».

1 Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the LORD. 2 Therefore thus saith the LORD God of Israel against the pastors that feed my people; Ye have scattered my flock, and driven them away, and have not visited them: behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, saith the LORD. 3 And I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all countries whither I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase. 4 And I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them: and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall they be lacking, saith the LORD.

5 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. 6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.*23.6 THE LORD…: Heb.
