1 A Song. A Psalm. Of Asaph.

2 \83:1\O God, do not keep quiet: let your lips be open and take no rest, O God.

3 \83:2\For see! those who make war on you are out of control; your haters are lifting up their heads.

4 \83:3\They have made wise designs against your people, talking together against those whom you keep in a secret place.

5 \83:4\They have said, Come, let us put an end to them as a nation; so that the name of Israel may go out of man's memory.

6 \83:5\For they have all come to an agreement; they are all joined together against you:

7 \83:6\The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites; Moab and the Hagarites;

8 \83:7\Gebal and Ammon and Amalek; the Philistines and the people of Tyre;

9 \83:8\Assur is joined with them; they have become the support of the children of Lot. (Selah.)

10 \83:9\Do to them what you did to the Midianites; what you did to Sisera and Jabin, at the stream of Kishon:

11 \83:10\Who came to destruction at En-dor; their bodies became dust and waste.

12 \83:11\Make their chiefs like Oreb and Zeeb; and all their rulers like Zebah and Zalmunna:

13 \83:12\Who have said, Let us take for our heritage the resting-place of God.

14 \83:13\O my God, make them like the rolling dust; like dry stems before the wind.

15 \83:14\As fire burning a wood, and as a flame causing fire on the mountains,

16 \83:15\So go after them with your strong wind, and let them be full of fear because of your storm.

17 \83:16\Let their faces be full of shame; so that they may give honour to your name, O Lord.

18 \83:17\Let them be overcome and troubled for ever; let them be put to shame and come to destruction;

19 \83:18\So that men may see that you only, whose name is Yahweh, are Most High over all the earth.

1 Canto. Salmo di Asaf.} O Dio, non startene cheto; non rimaner muto ed inerte, o Dio!

2 Poiché, ecco, i tuoi nemici si agitano rumorosamente, e quelli che t’odiano alzano il capo.

3 Tramano astuti disegni contro il tuo popolo, e si concertano contro quelli che tu nascondi presso di te.

4 Dicono: Venite, distruggiamoli come nazione, e il nome d’Israele non sia più ricordato.

5 Poiché si son concertati con uno stesso sentimento, fanno un patto contro di te:

6 le tende di Edom e gl’Ismaeliti; Moab e gli Hagareni;

7 Ghebal, Ammon ed Amalek; la Filistia con gli abitanti di Tiro;

8 anche l’Assiria s’è aggiunta a loro; prestano il loro braccio ai figliuoli di Lot. Sela.

9 Fa’ a loro come facesti a Midian, a Sisera, a Jabin presso al torrente di Chison,

10 i quali furon distrutti a Endor, e serviron di letame alla terra.

11 Rendi i loro capi simili ad Oreb e Zeeb, e tutti i loro principi simili a Zeba e Tsalmunna;

12 poiché dicono: Impossessiamoci delle dimore di Dio.

13 Dio mio, rendili simili al turbine, simili a stoppia dinanzi al vento.

14 Come il fuoco brucia la foresta, e come la fiamma incendia i monti,

15 così perseguitali con la tua tempesta, e spaventali col tuo uragano.

16 Cuopri la loro faccia di vituperio, onde cerchino il tuo nome, o Eterno!

17 Siano svergognati e costernati in perpetuo, siano confusi e periscano!

18 E conoscano che tu, il cui nome e l’Eterno, sei il solo Altissimo sopra tutta la terra.
