1 To the chief music-maker. A Psalm. Of David. 2 \64:1\O God, let the voice of my grief come to your ear: keep my life from the fear of those who are against me.3 \64:2\Keep me safe from the secret purpose of wrongdoers; from the band of the workers of evil;4 \64:3\Who make their tongues sharp like a sword, and whose arrows are pointed, even bitter words;5 \64:4\So that in secret they may let loose their arrows at the upright, suddenly and unseen.6 \64:5\They make themselves strong in an evil purpose; they make holes for secret nets; they say, Who will see it,7 \64:6\Or make discovery of our secret purpose? The design is framed with care; and the inner thought of a man, and his heart, is deep.8 \64:7\But God sends out an arrow against them; suddenly they are wounded.9 \64:8\The evil of their tongues is the cause of their fall; all those who see them are shaking their heads at them.10 \64:9\And in fear men make public the works of God; and giving thought to his acts they get wisdom.11 \64:10\The upright will be glad in the Lord and have hope in him; and all the lovers of righteousness will give him glory.

Guarda la mia vita dallo spavento del nemico.2 Mettimi al coperto dalle trame de’ maligni, dalla turba degli operatori d’iniquità,3 che hanno aguzzato la loro lingua come una spada e hanno scoccato come frecce le loro parole amare,4 per colpire da luoghi nascosti l’uomo integro; lo colpiscono all’improvviso, e non hanno paura.5 S’incoraggiano a vicenda in un’impresa malvagia; concertano di tender lacci di nascosto; e dicono: Chi li vedrà?6 Divisano nequizia e dicono: Abbiam compiuto il nostro divisamento. L’intimo pensiero e il cuore d’ognun di loro è un abisso.7 Ma Dio scoccherà contro di essi le sue frecce, e subito saran coperti di ferite;8 saranno fatti cadere; e il male fatto dalle loro lingue ricadrà su loro. Tutti quelli che li vedranno scrolleranno il capo,9 e tutti gli uomini temeranno, e racconteranno l’opera di Dio, e considereranno quello ch’egli avrà fatto.10 Il giusto si rallegrerà nell’Eterno e in lui cercherà rifugio; e tutti i diritti di cuore si glorieranno.
