1 Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broadways thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that doeth justice, that seeketh fidelity; and I will pardon it. 2 And if they say, As Jehovah liveth! surely they swear falsely. 3 Jehovah, are not thine eyes upon fidelity? Thou hast smitten them, but they are not sore; thou hast consumed them, they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return. 4 And I said, Surely these are the wretched ones, they are foolish; for they know not the way of Jehovah, the judgment of their God*GodHebrew: Elohim5 I will go unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they know the way of Jehovah, the judgment of their God*GodHebrew: Elohim but these have altogether broken the yoke, have burst the bonds. 6 Therefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, a wolf of the evenings shall waste them; the leopard lurketh against their cities, every one that goeth out thence is torn in pieces: for their transgressions are multiplied, their backslidings are increased. 7 Wherefore should I pardon thee? Thy children have forsaken me, and swear by them that are not God*GodHebrew: Elohim I have satiated them, and they have committed adultery, and they troop to the harlots' house. 8 As well fed horses, they roam about, every one neigheth after his neighbour’s wife. 9 Shall I not visit for these things? saith Jehovah, and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

10 Go up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end; take away her battlements, for they are not Jehovah’s. 11 For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me, saith Jehovah. 12 They have denied Jehovah, and say, He is not; and evil shall not come upon us, nor shall we see sword nor famine; 13 and the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done unto them. 14 Therefore thus saith Jehovah, the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of hosts: Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them. 15 Behold, I bring a nation upon you from afar, house of Israel, saith Jehovah: it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest thou what they say. 16 Their quiver is as an open sepulchre; they are all mighty men. 17 And they shall eat up thy harvest and thy bread, they shall eat up thy sons and thy daughters, they shall eat up thy flocks and thy herds, they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig-trees; they shall destroy with the sword thy strong cities, wherein thou trustedst. 18 Nevertheless in those days, saith Jehovah, I will not make a full end with you. 19 And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore hath Jehovah our God*GodHebrew: Elohim done all these things unto us? then shalt thou say to them, As ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not yours.

20 Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying, 21 Hear now this, O foolish and heartless people, who have eyes and see not; who have ears, and hear not. 22 Will ye not fear me? saith Jehovah. Will ye not tremble at my presence, who have set the sand a bound for the sea by a perpetual decree, and it shall not pass it? and its waves toss themselves, but they do not prevail; and they roar, yet can they not pass over it? 23 But this people hath a stubborn and a rebellious heart; they have turned aside and are gone. 24 And they say not in their heart, Let us now fear Jehovah our God*GodHebrew: Elohim that giveth rain, both the early and the latter, in its season; who preserveth unto us the appointed weeks of harvest.

25 Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden from you what is good. 26 For among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait, as fowlers stoop down; they set a trap, they catch men. 27 As a cage full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and have enriched themselves. 28 They are become fat, they shine, yea, they surpass in deeds of wickedness; they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, and they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not adjudge. 29 Shall I not visit for these things? saith Jehovah; shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this? 30 An appalling and horrible thing is committed in the land: 31 the prophets prophesy falsehood, and the priests rule by their means; and my people love to have it so. But what will ye do in the end thereof?

Cap. 2:30., și ei nu simt nimic; îi nimicești, și nu vor să ia învățătură; iau o înfățișare mai tare decât stânca, nu vor*Cap. 7:28.Ţef. 3:2. să se întoarcă la Tine. 4 Eu ziceam: „Numai cei mici sunt așa; ei lucrează fără minte, pentru că nu cunosc*Cap. 8:7. calea Domnului, Legea Dumnezeului lor! 5 Mă voi duce deci la cei mari și le voi vorbi, căci ei*Mica 3:1. cunosc calea Domnului, Legea Dumnezeului lor!" Dar toți au sfărâmat*Ps. 2:3. jugul și au rupt legăturile. 6 De aceea îi omoară leul*Cap. 4:7. din pădure și-i nimicește lupul*Ps. 104:20.Hab. 1:8.Ţef. 3:3. din pustie. Stă la pândă pardosul*Osea 13:7. înaintea cetăților lor; toți cei ce vor ieși din ele vor fi sfâșiați, căci fărădelegile lor sunt multe, abaterile lor s-au înmulțit! 7 „Cum să te iert?", zice Domnul. „Copiii tăi M-au părăsit și jură*Ios. 23:7.Ţef. 1:5. pe dumnezei care*Deut. 32:21.Gal. 4:8. n-au ființă. Și, după ce le-am primit*Deut. 32:15. jurămintele, se dedau la preacurvie și aleargă cu grămada în casa curvei! 8 Ca niște cai*Ezec. 22:11. bine hrăniți, care aleargă încoace și încolo, fiecare nechează*Cap. 13:27. după nevasta aproapelui său. 9 Să*Vers. 29. Cap. 9:9. nu pedepsesc Eu aceste lucruri", zice Domnul, „să nu Mă răzbun Eu*Cap. 44:22. pe un asemenea popor? 10 Suiți-vă*Cap. 39:8. pe zidurile ei și dărâmați, dar*Cap. 4:27. Vers. 18. nu nimiciți de tot! Luați-i butucii aceștia, căci nu sunt ai Domnului! 11 Căci casa*Cap. 3:20. lui Israel și casa lui Iuda Mi-au fost necredincioase", zice Domnul. 12 Ei tăgăduiesc*2 Cron. 36:16. Cap. 4:10. pe Domnul și zic: „Nu*Is. 28:15. este El! Și nu*Cap. 14:13. va veni nenorocirea peste noi; nu vom vedea nici sabia, nici foametea. 13 Prorocii sunt vânt, și nu Dumnezeu vorbește în ei. Așa să li se facă și lor!" 14 De aceea, așa vorbește Domnul Dumnezeul oștirilor: „Pentru că ați zis lucrul acesta, iată*Cap. 1:9., Cuvântul Meu îl fac foc în gura ta și poporul acesta, lemne, ca să-i ardă focul acesta. 15 Iată, aduc de departe un neam împotriva voastră, casă a lui Israel", zice Domnul, „un neam*Deut. 28:49.Is. 5:26. Cap. 1:15; 6:22. tare, un neam*Is. 39:3. Cap. 4:16. străvechi, un neam a cărui limbă n-o cunoști și ale cărui vorbe nu le pricepi. 16 Tolba lui cu săgeți este ca un mormânt deschis; toți sunt niște viteji. 17 El îți va mânca secerișul*Lev. 26:16.Deut. 28:31,33. și pâinea, îți va mânca fiii și fiicele, îți va mânca oile și boii, îți va mânca via și smochinul și îți va trece prin sabie cetățile întărite, în care te încrezi. 18 Dar, și în zilele acelea", zice Domnul, „nu vă voi nimici*Cap. 4:27. de tot. 19 Dacă veți întreba atunci: ‘Pentru ce*Deut. 29:24.1 Împ. 9:8,9. Cap. 23:22;16:10. ne-a făcut toate acestea Domnul Dumnezeul nostru?’, așa le vei răspunde: ‘După cum voi M-ați părăsit*Cap. 2:13. și ați slujit unor dumnezei străini în țara voastră, tot așa acum veți sluji*Deut. 28:48. unor străini într-o țară care nu este a voastră!’ 20 Spuneți lucrul acesta casei lui Iacov, vestiți-l în Iuda și ziceți: 21 ‘Ascultați lucrul acesta, popor*Is. 6:9.Ezec. 12:2.Mat. 13:14.Ioan 12:40.Fapte 28:26.Rom. 11:8. fără minte și fără inimă, care are ochi, și nu vede, urechi, și n-aude! 22 Nu voiți să vă temeți*Apoc. 15:4. de Mine’, zice Domnul, ‘nu voiți să tremurați înaintea Mea? Eu am pus mării*Iov 26:10;38:10,11.Ps. 104:9.Prov. 8:29. ca hotar nisipul, hotar veșnic, pe care nu trebuie să-l treacă. Și chiar dacă valurile ei se înfurie, totuși sunt neputincioase; urlă, dar nu-l trec. 23 Poporul acesta însă are o inimă dârză și răzvrătită; se răscoală și pleacă 24 și nu zic în inima lor: «Să ne temem de Domnul Dumnezeul nostru, care dă ploaie*Ps. 147:8. Cap. 14:22.Mat. 5:45.Fapte 14:17. la vreme, ploaie timpurie*Deut. 11:14.Ioel 2:23. și târzie, și ne păstrează*Gen. 8:22. săptămânile hotărâte pentru seceriș.» 25 Din pricina nelegiuirilor voastre*Cap. 3:3. n-au loc aceste orânduiri, păcatele voastre vă lipsesc de aceste bunătăți. 26 Căci în poporul Meu sunt oameni răi; ei pândesc*Prov. 1:11,17,18.Hab. 1:15. ca păsărarul care întinde lațuri, întind curse și prind oameni. 27 Cum se umple o colivie de păsări, așa se umplu casele lor prin vicleșug; așa ajung ei puternici și bogați. 28 Se îngrașă*Deut. 32:15., lucesc de grăsime; întrec orice măsură în rău, nu apără pricina*Is. 1:23.Zah. 7:10., pricina orfanului, ca să le meargă bine*Iov 12:6.Ps. 73:12. Cap. 12:1., nu fac dreptate celor lipsiți. 29 Să nu pedepsesc*Vers. 9.Mal. 3:5. Eu aceste lucruri’, zice Domnul, ‘să nu-Mi răzbun Eu pe un asemenea popor?’ 30 Grozave lucruri, urâcioase*Cap. 23:14.Osea 6:10. lucruri se fac în țară. 31 Prorocii prorocesc neadevăruri*Cap. 14:14;23:25,26.Ezec. 13:6., preoții stăpânesc cu ajutorul lor, și poporului Meu îi plac*Mica 2:11. aceste lucruri. Dar ce veți face la urmă?
