1 And the word of Jehovah came to me, saying, 2 Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith Jehovah: I remember for thee the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals, when thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a land not sown. 3 Israel was holiness unto Jehovah, the first-fruits of his increase: all that devour him are guilty; evil shall come upon them, saith Jehovah. 4 Hear the word of Jehovah, house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel. 5 Thus saith Jehovah: What injustice have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and become vain? 6 And they said not, Where is Jehovah, that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us in the wilderness, in a land of deserts and of pits, in a land of drought and of the shadow of death, in a land that no one passeth through, and where no man dwelleth? 7 And I brought you into a fruitful land, to eat the fruit thereof and the good thereof; and ye entered and defiled my land, and made my heritage an abomination. 8 The priests said not, Where is Jehovah? and they that handled the law knew me not; and the shepherds transgressed against me; and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit.

9 Therefore will I yet plead with you, saith Jehovah, and with your children’s children will I plead. 10 For pass over to the isles of Chittim, and see; and send unto Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there have been such a thing. 11 Hath a nation changed its gods? and they are no gods; — but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit. 12 Be astonished, ye heavens, at this, and shudder; be amazed very much, saith Jehovah. 13 For my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, to hew them out cisterns, broken cisterns that hold no water.

14 Is Israel a bondman? Is he a home-born slave? Why is he become a spoil? 15 The young lions roared against him, they gave forth their voice, and they made his land desolate: his cities are burned, without inhabitant. 16 Even the children of Noph and Tahapanes have fed on the crown of thy head. 17 Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken Jehovah thy God*GodHebrew: Elohim at the time he was leading thee in the way? 18 And now, what hast thou to do with the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Shihor? And what hast thou to do with the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the River? 19 Thine own wickedness chastiseth thee, and thy backslidings reprove thee: know then and see that it is an evil thing and bitter that thou hast forsaken Jehovah thy God*GodHebrew: Elohim and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts.

20 For of old thou hast broken thy yoke, and burst thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not serve. For upon every high hill, and under every green tree, thou bowest down, playing the harlot. 21 And I, — I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed; how then art thou turned into the degenerate shoots of a strange vine unto me? 22 For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much potash, thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord Jehovah. 23 How sayest thou, I am not defiled, I have not gone after the Baals? See thy way in the valley, acknowledge what thou hast done — a swift dromedary traversing her ways! 24 — a wild ass, used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind in her desire! In her ardour, who shall turn her away? All they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her. 25 Withhold thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from thirst. But thou saidst, There is no hope; no, for I love strangers, and after them will I go. 26 As a thief is ashamed when he is found, so shall the house of Israel be ashamed — they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets — 27 saying to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth; for they have turned the back unto me, and not the face; and in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us! 28 Where then are thy gods that thou hast made for thyself? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for as the number of thy cities, are thy gods, O Judah.

29 Wherefore would ye contend with me? Ye all have transgressed against me, saith Jehovah. 30 In vain have I smitten your children: they received no correction. Your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion. 31 O generation, mark ye the word of Jehovah. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel, or a land of thick darkness? Wherefore say my people, We have dominion; we will come no more unto thee? 32 Doth a virgin forget her ornaments, a bride her attire? But my people have forgotten me days without number. 33 How dost thou trim thy way to seek love! Therefore hast thou also accustomed thy ways to wickedness. 34 Yea, in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the innocent poor, whom thou didst not encounter breaking in, but it is found upon all these. 35 And thou sayest, Indeed I am innocent; his anger will turn from me. Behold, I will enter into judgment with thee because thou sayest, I have not sinned. 36 Why dost thou gad about so much, and change thy way? Thou shalt also be brought to shame by Egypt, as thou wast brought to shame by Assyria. 37 Thou shalt indeed go forth from her with thy hands upon thy head; for Jehovah hath rejected those thou confidest in, and thou shalt not prosper by them.

1 Cuvântul Domnului mi-a vorbit astfel: 2 „Du-te și strigă la urechile cetății Ierusalimului: ‘Așa vorbește Domnul: «Mi-aduc aminte încă de dragostea pe care o aveai când erai tânără*Ezec. 16:8,22,60;23:3,8,19.Osea 2:15., de iubirea ta când erai logodită, când Mă urmai*Deut. 2:7. în pustie, într-un pământ nesemănat. 3 Atunci, Israel*Exod 19:5,6. era închinat Domnului, era cele dintâi roade*Iac. 1:18.Apoc. 14:4. ale Lui; toți cei ce mâncau*Cap. 12:14;50:7. din ele se făceau vinovați și venea nenorocirea peste ei», zice Domnul.’" 4 Ascultați Cuvântul Domnului, casa lui Iacov și voi, toate familiile casei lui Israel! 5 Așa vorbește Domnul: „Ce nelegiuire*Is. 5:4.Mica 6:3. au găsit părinții voștri în Mine, de s-au depărtat de Mine și au mers după nimicuri*2 Împ. 17:15.Iona 2:8. și au ajuns ei înșiși de nimic? 6 Ei n-au întrebat: ‘Unde este Domnul, care ne-a scos*Is. 63:9,11,13.Osea 13:4. din țara Egiptului, care ne-a povățuit prin pustie*Deut. 8:15;32:10., printr-un pământ uscat și plin de gropi, printr-un pământ unde domnesc seceta și umbra morții, printr-un pământ pe unde nimeni nu trece și unde nu locuiește niciun om?’ 7 V-am adus într-o țară ca o livadă de pomi*Num. 13:27;14:7,8.Deut. 8:7,8,9., ca să-i mâncați roadele și bunătățile, dar voi ați venit, Mi-ați spurcat*Lev. 18:25,27,28.Num. 35:33,34.Ps. 78:58,59;106:38. Cap. 3:1; 16:18. țara și Mi-ați prefăcut moștenirea într-o urâciune. 8 Preoții n-au întrebat: ‘Unde este Domnul?’ Păzitorii Legii*Mal. 2:6,7.Rom. 2:20. nu M-au cunoscut, păstorii sufletești Mi-au fost necredincioși, prorocii*Cap. 23:13. au prorocit prin Baal și au alergat după cei ce nu sunt de niciun*Vers. 11.Hab. 2:18. ajutor. 9 De aceea, Mă voi mai certa*Ezec. 20:35,36.Mica 6:2. cu voi", zice Domnul, „și Mă voi certa cu copiii*Exod 20:5.Lev. 20:5. copiilor voștri. 10 Treceți în ostroavele Chitim și priviți! Trimiteți la Chedar, uitați-vă bine și vedeți dacă s-a întâmplat acolo așa ceva: 11 și-a schimbat*Mica 4:5. vreodată un popor dumnezeii, măcar că ei nu sunt*Ps. 115:4.Is. 37:19. Cap. 16:20. dumnezei? Dar poporul Meu și-a*Ps. 106:20.Rom. 1:23. schimbat Slava cu ceva*Vers. 8. care nu este de niciun ajutor! 12 Mirați-vă*Is. 1:2. Cap. 6:19. de așa ceva, ceruri, înfiorați-vă de spaimă și groază", zice Domnul. 13 „Căci poporul Meu a săvârșit un îndoit păcat: M-au părăsit pe Mine, Izvorul apelor vii*Ps. 36:9. Cap. 17:13;18:14.Ioan 4:14., și și-au săpat puțuri, puțuri crăpate, care nu țin apă. 14 Este Israel un rob*Exod 4:22. cumpărat sau fiu de rob născut în casă? Atunci pentru ce a ajuns de pradă? 15 Niște pui*Is. 1:7. Cap. 4:7. de lei mugesc și strigă împotriva lui și-i pustiesc țara; cetățile îi sunt arse și fără locuitori. 16 Chiar și cei din Nof și Tahpanes*Cap. 43:7-9. îți vor zdrobi creștetul capului. 17 Nu ți-ai făcut*Cap. 4:18. tu singur lucrul acesta pentru că ai părăsit pe Domnul Dumnezeul tău, când te îndrepta*Deut. 32:10. pe calea cea bună? 18 Și acum, ce cauți să te duci*Is. 30:1,2. în Egipt să bei apa*Ios. 13:3. Nilului? Ce cauți să te duci în Asiria să bei apa râului? 19 Tu singur te pedepsești cu răutatea*Is. 3:9.Osea 5:5. ta și tu singur te lovești cu necredincioșia ta și vei ști și vei vedea ce rău și amar este să părăsești pe Domnul Dumnezeul tău și să n-ai nicio frică de Mine", zice Domnul Dumnezeul oștirilor. 20 „De mult ți-ai sfărâmat jugul, ți-ai rupt legăturile și ai*Exod 19:8.Ios. 24:18.Jud. 10:16.1 Sam. 12:10. zis: ‘Nu mai vreau să slujesc ca un rob!’ Căci, pe orice deal*Deut. 12:2.Is. 57:5,7. Cap. 3:6. înalt și sub orice copac verde, te-ai întins ca o*Exod 34:15,16. curvă. 21 Te sădisem ca o vie minunată*Exod 15:17.Ps. 44:2;80:8.Is. 5:1;60:21.Mat. 21:33.Marcu 12:1.Luca 20:9. și de cel mai bun soi. Cum te-ai schimbat și te-ai prefăcut într-o coardă*Deut. 32:32.Is. 1:21;5:4. de viță sălbatică?! 22 Chiar dacă te-ai spăla cu silitră*Iov 9:30., chiar dacă ai da cu multă sodă, nelegiuirea*Deut. 32:34.Iov 14:17.Osea 13:12. ta tot ar rămâne scrisă înaintea Mea", zice Domnul Dumnezeu. 23 „Cum*Prov. 30:12. poți să zici: ‘Nu m-am spurcat și nu m-am dus după baali’? Privește-ți urma pașilor în vale*Cap. 7:31. și vezi ce ai făcut, dromaderă*Iov 39:5-8. Cap. 14:6. iute la mers și care bați drumurile și le încrucișezi, 24 măgăriță sălbatică, deprinsă cu pustia, care gâfâie în aprinderea patimii ei! Cine o va împiedica să-și facă pofta? Toți cei ce o caută n-au nevoie să se ostenească: o găsesc în luna ei. 25 Nu te lăsa cu picioarele goale, nu-ți usca gâtlejul de sete! Dar*Cap. 18:12. tu zici: ‘Degeaba, nu! Căci iubesc dumnezeii*Deut. 32:16. Cap. 3:13. străini și vreau să merg după ei.’ 26 Cum rămâne uluit un hoț când este prins, așa de uluiți vor rămâne cei din casa lui Israel, ei, împărații lor, căpeteniile lor, preoții lor și prorocii lor. 27 Ei zic lemnului: ‘Tu ești tatăl meu!’ și pietrei: ‘Tu mi-ai dat viața!’ Căci ei Îmi întorc spatele și nu se uită la Mine. Dar, când sunt în nenorocire*Jud. 10:10.Ps. 78:34.Is. 26:16., zic: ‘Scoală-Te și scapă-ne!’ 28 Unde sunt*Deut. 32:37.Jud. 10:14. dumnezeii tăi pe care ți i-ai făcut? Să se scoale ei, dacă pot să te scape*Is. 45:20. în vremea nenorocirii! Căci câte*Cap. 11:13. cetăți ai, atâția dumnezei ai, Iuda! 29 Pentru ce*Vers. 23,35. vă certați cu Mine? Toți Mi-ați fost necredincioși", zice Domnul. 30 „Degeaba v-am lovit*Is. 1:5;9:13. Cap. 5:3. copiii; n-au luat seama la certare; sabia voastră a mâncat*2 Cron. 36:16.Neem. 9:26.Mat. 23:29.Fapte 7:52.1 Tes. 2:15. pe prorocii voștri ca un leu nimicitor. 31 O, neam rău de oameni, uitați-vă bine la Cuvântul Domnului, care zice: ‘Am fost Eu o pustie*Vers. 5. pentru Israel sau o țară plină de întuneric beznă?’ Pentru ce zice atunci poporul Meu: ‘Suntem slobozi*Ps. 12:4., nu voim*Deut. 32:15. să ne întoarcem la Tine’? 32 Își uită fata podoabele sau mireasa brâul? Dar poporul Meu M-a uitat*Ps. 106:21. Cap. 13:25.Osea 8:14. de zile fără număr. 33 Ce bine știi să-ți întocmești căile când este vorba să cauți ce iubești! Chiar și la nelegiuire te deprinzi. 34 Până și pe poalele hainei tale se află sângele sărmanilor*Ps. 106:38. Cap. 19:4. nevinovați, pe care nu i-ai prins făcând nicio spargere. 35 Și, cu toate acestea*Vers. 23,29., tu zici: ‘Da, sunt nevinovat! Să se întoarcă acum mânia Lui de la mine!’ Iată*Vers. 9., Mă voi certa cu tine, pentru că*Prov. 28:13.1 Ioan 1:8,10. zici: ‘N-am păcătuit!’ 36 Pentru ce*Vers. 18. Cap. 31:22.Osea 5:13;12:1. atâta grabă ca să-ți schimbi drumul? Din Egipt îți va veni rușinea*Is. 30:3. Cap. 37:7., cum*2 Cron. 28:16,20,21. ți-a venit și din Asiria! 37 Tot de-acolo vei ieși cu mâinile*2 Sam. 13:19. pe cap, căci Domnul leapădă pe aceia în care te încrezi și nu vei izbuti cu ei."
