1 The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews who dwelt in the land of Egypt, who dwelt at Migdol, and at Tahpanhes, and at Noph, and in the country of Pathros, saying, 2 Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of Israel: Ye have seen all the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, and upon all the cities of Judah; and behold they are, this day, a waste, and no man dwelleth therein, 3 because of their wickedness which they have committed to provoke me to anger, in that they went to burn incense to serve other gods which they knew not, they, nor ye, nor your fathers. 4 And I sent unto you all my servants the prophets, rising early and sending, saying, Oh, do not this abominable thing which I hate! 5 But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense unto other gods. 6 And my fury and mine anger was poured forth, and was kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they are become a waste, a desolation, as at this day. 7 And now thus saith Jehovah the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of hosts, the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of Israel: Wherefore commit ye great evil against your souls, to cut off from you man and woman, infant and suckling, out of the midst of Judah, to leave you no remnant; 8 provoking me to anger with the works of your hands, burning incense unto other gods in the land of Egypt, whither ye are come to sojourn, that ye should be cut off, and that ye should be a curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth? 9 Have ye forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, and the wickedness of the kings of Judah, and the wickedness of their wives, and your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives, which they have committed in the land of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem? 10 They are not humbled unto this day, neither have they feared, nor walked in my law, nor in my statutes which I set before you and before your fathers. 11 Therefore thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of Israel: Behold, I will set my face against you for evil, and to cut off all Judah. 12 And I will take the remnant of Judah, that have set their faces to enter into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, and they shall all be consumed: in the land of Egypt shall they fall; they shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine, from the least even unto the greatest; they shall die by the sword and by the famine, and they shall be an execration, an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach. 13 And I will punish them that dwell in the land of Egypt as I have punished Jerusalem, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence; 14 and none of the remnant of Judah, that have come into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall escape or remain, so as to return into the land of Judah, whither they have a desire to return to dwell there; for none shall return but such as shall escape.

15 Then all the men who knew that their wives burned incense to other gods, and all the women who stood by, a great assemblage, even all the people that dwelt in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying, 16 As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of Jehovah, we will not hearken unto thee, 17 but we will certainly do every word that is gone forth out of our mouth, to burn incense to the queen of the heavens, and to pour out drink-offerings to her, as we have done, we and our fathers, our kings and our princes, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and we had plenty of bread, and were well, and saw no evil. 18 But since we left off burning incense to the queen of the heavens, and pouring out drink-offerings to her, we have wanted everything, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine. 19 And when we burned incense to the queen of the heavens and poured out drink-offerings to her, did we make for her cakes to portray her, and pour out drink-offerings to her, without our husbands?

20 And Jeremiah said unto all the people, to the men, and to the women, and to all the people that had given him that answer, saying, 21 Is it not the incense that ye burned in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, ye and your fathers, your kings and your princes and the people of the land, that Jehovah remembered, and that came into his mind? 22 And Jehovah could no longer bear, because of the evil of your doings, and because of the abominations that ye had committed; and your land is become a waste, and an astonishment, and a curse, without inhabitant, as at this day. 23 Because ye have burned incense, and because ye have sinned against Jehovah, and have not hearkened unto the voice of Jehovah, nor walked in his law, nor in his statutes, nor in his testimonies; therefore this evil hath come upon you, as at this day. 24 And Jeremiah said unto all the people, and to all the women, Hear ye the word of Jehovah, all Judah that are in the land of Egypt. 25 Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of Israel, saying, Ye and your wives have both spoken with your mouths, and fulfilled with your hands, saying, We will certainly perform our vows which we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of the heavens, and to pour out drink-offerings unto her. Ye will certainly establish your vows, and entirely perform your vows. 26 Therefore hear ye the word of Jehovah, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt: Behold, I have sworn by my great name, saith Jehovah, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, As the Lord Jehovah liveth. 27 Behold, I will watch over them for evil, and not for good; and all the men of Judah that are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine, until there be an end of them. 28 And they that escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah, a very small company; and all the remnant of Judah, that have come into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall know whose word shall stand, mine or theirs. 29 And this shall be the sign unto you, saith Jehovah, that I will punish you in this place, that ye may know that my words shall certainly stand against you for evil: 30 thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I will give Pharaoh-Hophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of them that seek his life; as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, his enemy, and that sought his life.

Cap. 46:14., la Tahpanes*Cap. 43:7., la Nof*Is. 19:13. și în țara Patros: 2 „Așa vorbește Domnul oștirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: ‘Ați văzut toate nenorocirile pe care le-am adus asupra Ierusalimului și asupra tuturor cetăților lui Iuda: iată că astăzi ele nu mai sunt decât niște dărâmături*Cap. 9:11;34:22. și nimeni nu mai locuiește în ele 3 din pricina răutății cu care au lucrat, ca să Mă mânie, ducându-se să tămâieze*Cap. 19:4. și să slujească*Deut. 13:6;32:17. altor dumnezei, care nu erau cunoscuți nici de ei, nici de voi, nici de părinții voștri. 4 V-am*2 Cron. 36:15. Cap. 7:25;25:4;26:5;29:19. trimis întruna pe toți slujitorii Mei prorocii ca să vă spună: «Nu faceți aceste urâciuni, pe care le urăsc!» 5 Dar ei n-au vrut s-asculte, n-au luat aminte, nu s-au întors de la răutatea lor și n-au încetat să aducă tămâie altor dumnezei. 6 De aceea s-a vărsat*Cap. 42:18. urgia Mea și a izbucnit mânia Mea și în cetățile lui Iuda și în ulițele Ierusalimului, care nu mai sunt decât niște dărâmături și un pustiu, cum se vede astăzi.’ 7 Acum, așa vorbește Domnul Dumnezeul oștirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: ‘Pentru ce vă faceți voi singuri un rău*Num. 16:38. Cap. 7:19. atât de mare, ca să se nimicească din mijlocul lui Iuda bărbați, femei, copii și prunci și să nu mai rămână nicio rămășiță din voi? 8 Pentru ce Mă mâniați*Cap. 25:6,7. voi prin lucrările mâinilor voastre, aducând tămâie altor dumnezei, ai țării Egiptului, unde ați venit să locuiți pentru o vreme, ca să fiți nimiciți și să ajungeți o pricină de blestem*Cap. 42:18. Vers. 12. și de ocară printre toate neamurile pământului? 9 Ați uitat nelegiuirile părinților voștri, nelegiuirile împăraților lui Iuda, nelegiuirile nevestelor lor, nelegiuirile voastre și nelegiuirile nevestelor voastre săvârșite în țara lui Iuda și pe ulițele Ierusalimului? 10 Ei nu s-au smerit nici până în ziua de azi, n-au frică*Prov. 28:14., nu urmează Legea Mea și poruncile Mele, pe care le-am pus înaintea voastră și înaintea părinților voștri.’ 11 De aceea, așa vorbește Domnul oștirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: ‘Iată, Îmi întorc*Lev. 17:10;20:5,6. Cap. 21:10.Amos 9:4. Fața împotriva voastră ca să vă fac rău și să nimicesc pe tot Iuda. 12 Voi lua rămășițele lui Iuda care și-au îndreptat fața ca să meargă în țara Egiptului, să locuiască acolo pentru o vreme; toți vor fi nimiciți și vor cădea în țara Egiptului; vor fi nimiciți*Cap. 42:15-17,22. de sabie, de foamete, de la cel mai mic până la cel mai mare; vor pieri de sabie și de foamete și vor fi o pricină de afurisenie, de spaimă, de blestem*Cap. 42:18. și de ocară. 13 Voi pedepsi*Cap. 43:11. astfel pe cei ce locuiesc în țara Egiptului, cum am pedepsit Ierusalimul, cu sabie, cu foamete și cu ciumă. 14 Nu va rămâne și nu va scăpa niciunul din rămășițele lui Iuda, care au venit să locuiască pentru o vreme în țara Egiptului cu gând să se întoarcă iarăși în țara lui Iuda, unde doresc să se întoarcă iarăși să se așeze; nu se vor mai întoarce*Vers. 28. decât vreo câțiva, care vor scăpa!’" 15 Toți bărbații care știau că nevestele lor aduceau tămâie altor dumnezei, toate femeile care se aflau acolo în mare număr și tot poporul care locuia în țara Egiptului, la Patros, au răspuns așa lui Ieremia: 16 „Nu*Cap. 6:16. te vom asculta în nimic din cele ce ne-ai spus în Numele Domnului. 17 Ci voim să facem cum am spus cu gura noastră*Num. 30:12.Deut. 23:23.Jud. 11:36. Vers. 25., și anume să aducem tămâie împărătesei*Cap. 7:18. cerului și să-i turnăm jertfe de băutură, cum am făcut noi și părinții noștri, împărații noștri și căpeteniile noastre, în cetățile lui Iuda și în ulițele Ierusalimului. Atunci aveam pâine de ne săturam, eram fericiți și nu treceam prin nicio nenorocire! 18 Dar, de când am încetat să aducem tămâie împărătesei cerului și să-i turnăm jertfe de băutură, am dus lipsă de toate și am fost nimiciți de sabie și de foamete… 19 De altfel, când*Cap. 7:18. aducem tămâie împărătesei cerului și-i turnăm jertfe de băutură, oare fără voia bărbaților noștri îi pregătim noi turte ca s-o cinstim făcându-i chipul și-i aducem jertfe de băutură?" 20 Ieremia a zis atunci întregului popor, bărbaților, femeilor și tuturor celor ce-i dăduseră răspunsul acesta: 21 „Nu Și-a adus aminte Domnul și nu I-a venit Lui în minte tămâia pe care ați ars-o în cetățile lui Iuda și în ulițele Ierusalimului, voi și părinții voștri, împărații voștri și căpeteniile voastre, și poporul din țară? 22 Domnul n-a putut să mai sufere lucrul acesta din pricina răutății faptelor voastre, din pricina urâciunilor pe care le-ați săvârșit, și de aceea țara voastră a ajuns o paragină, un pustiu*Cap. 25:11,18,38., o pricină de blestem, cum vedeți*Vers. 6. astăzi. 23 Tocmai pentru că ați ars tămâie și ați păcătuit împotriva Domnului, pentru că n-ați ascultat glasul Domnului și n-ați păzit Legea, poruncile și învățăturile Lui, tocmai pentru aceea*Dan. 9:11,12. vi s-au întâmplat aceste nenorociri, cum se vede astăzi." 24 Ieremia a mai zis întregului popor și tuturor femeilor: „Ascultați Cuvântul Domnului, voi toți cei din Iuda care sunteți*Cap. 43:7. Vers. 15. în țara Egiptului! 25 Așa vorbește Domnul Dumnezeul lui Israel: ‘Voi*Vers. 15. și nevestele voastre ați mărturisit cu gurile voastre și ați împlinit cu mâinile voastre ce spuneți: «Vrem să împlinim juruințele pe care le-am făcut, să aducem tămâie împărătesei cerului și să-i turnăm jertfe de băutură!» 26 De aceea, acum, după ce v-ați împlinit juruințele și v-ați înfăptuit făgăduințele, ascultați Cuvântul Domnului, voi toți cei din Iuda, care locuiți în țara Egiptului! Iată, jur*Gen. 22:16. pe Numele Meu cel mare’, zice Domnul, ‘că Numele Meu*Ezec. 20:39. nu va mai fi chemat de gura niciunuia din oamenii lui Iuda și în toată țara Egiptului niciunul nu va zice: «Viu este Domnul Dumnezeu!» 27 Iată, voi veghea*Cap. 1:10;31:28.Ezec. 7:6. asupra lor ca să le fac rău, și nu bine, și toți oamenii lui Iuda care sunt în țara Egiptului vor fi nimiciți*Vers. 12. de sabie și de foamete până vor pieri de tot. 28 Aceia, în mic număr, care*Vers. 14.Is. 27:13. vor scăpa de sabie se vor întoarce din țara Egiptului în țara lui Iuda. Dar toată rămășița lui Iuda, toți cei ce au venit să locuiască în țara Egiptului, vor vedea dacă se va împlini Cuvântul*Vers. 17,25,26. Meu sau al lor. 29 Și iată’, zice Domnul, ‘un semn după care veți cunoaște că vă voi pedepsi în locul acesta, ca să știți că vorbele Mele se vor împlini*Ps. 33:11. peste voi, spre nenorocirea voastră.’ 30 Așa vorbește Domnul: ‘Iată, voi*Cap. 46:25,26.Ezec. 29:3;30:21. da pe Faraon Hofra, împăratul Egiptului, în mâinile vrăjmașilor lui, în mâinile celor ce vor să-l omoare, cum am dat pe Zedechia*Cap. 39:5., împăratul lui Iuda, în mâinile lui Nebucadnețar, împăratul Babilonului, vrăjmașul său, care voia să-l omoare.’"
