1 The word that came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying, 2 Hear ye the words of this covenant; and speak ye unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 3 And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah, the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of Israel: Cursed be the man that obeyeth not the words of this covenant 4 which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, Hearken unto my voice and do them, according to all that I command you; so shall ye be my people, and I will be your God*GodHebrew: Elohim5 that I may perform the oath that I have sworn unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day. And I answered and said, Amen, Jehovah! 6 And Jehovah said unto me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying: Hear the words of this covenant, and do them. 7 For I earnestly protested unto your fathers, in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, unto this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Hearken unto my voice. 8 But they have not hearkened, nor inclined their ear, but have walked every one in the stubbornness of their evil heart; and I have brought upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, and they have not done. 9 And Jehovah said unto me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 10 They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, who refused to hear my words; and they have gone after other gods to serve them. The house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.

11 Therefore thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I will bring evil upon them, from which they shall not be able to escape; and they will cry unto me, and I will not hearken unto them. 12 Then shall the cities of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem go and cry unto the gods unto whom they have burned incense; but they shall not save them at all in the time of their trouble. 13 For as the number of thy cities, are thy gods, O Judah; and as the number of the streets of Jerusalem, have ye set up altars to the Shame, altars to burn incense unto Baal. 14 And thou, pray not for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them; for I will not hear in the time that they cry unto me for their trouble. 15 What hath my beloved to do in my house, seeing that the more part practise their evil devices, and the holy flesh is passed from thee? When thou doest evil, then thou rejoicest. 16 Jehovah had called thy name, A green olive-tree, fair, of goodly fruit: with the noise of a great tumult he hath kindled fire upon it, and its branches are broken. 17 For Jehovah of hosts, that planted thee, hath pronounced evil against thee, for the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have done for themselves, to provoke me to anger in burning incense unto Baal.

18 And Jehovah hath given me knowledge, and I know it; then thou shewedst me their doings. 19 And I was like a tame lamb that is led to the slaughter; and I knew not that they devised devices against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered. 20 But thou, Jehovah of hosts, who judgest righteously, who triest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I revealed my cause. 21 Therefore thus saith Jehovah concerning the men of Anathoth, that seek thy life, saying, Prophesy not in the name of Jehovah, that thou die not by our hand, 22 — therefore thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Behold, I punish them: the young men shall die by the sword; their sons and their daughters shall die by famine; 23 and there shall be no remnant of them; for I will bring evil upon the men of Anathoth, in the year of their visitation.

1 Iată Cuvântul Domnului care a vorbit lui Ieremia din partea Domnului astfel: 2 „Ascultați cuvintele acestui legământ și spuneți-le oamenilor lui Iuda și locuitorilor Ierusalimului! 3 Zi-le: ‘Așa vorbește Domnul Dumnezeul lui Israel: «Blestemat*Deut. 27:26.Gal. 3:10. să fie omul care n-ascultă cuvintele legământului acestuia 4 pe care l-am poruncit părinților voștri în ziua când i-am scos din țara Egiptului, din*Deut. 4:20.1 Împ. 8:51. cuptorul de fier, zicând: ‹Ascultați*Lev. 26:3,12. Cap. 7:23. glasul Meu și faceți tot ce vă voi porunci, și veți fi poporul Meu, iar Eu voi fi Dumnezeul vostru›, 5 atunci voi împlini jurământul*Deut. 7:12,13.Ps. 105:9,10. pe care l-am făcut părinților voștri că le voi da o țară în care curge lapte și miere, cum vedeți astăzi.»’" Și eu am răspuns: „Amin, Doamne!" 6 Domnul mi-a zis iarăși: „Vestește toate cuvintele acestea în cetățile lui Iuda și pe ulițele Ierusalimului și zi: ‘Ascultați cuvintele legământului acestuia și*Rom. 2:13.Iac. 1:22. împliniți-le! 7 Căci am înștiințat pe părinții voștri din ziua când i-am scos din țara Egiptului și până în ziua de azi; i-am înștiințat în toate*Cap. 7:13,25;35:15. diminețile zicând: «Ascultați glasul Meu!» 8 Dar ei n-au*Cap. 7:26. ascultat, n-au luat aminte, ci au urmat*Cap. 3:17;7:24;9:14. fiecare pornirile inimii lor rele. De aceea am împlinit asupra lor toate cuvintele legământului acestuia pe care le poruncisem să-l păzească, și pe care nu l-au păzit.’" 9 Domnul mi-a zis: „Este o uneltire*Ezec. 20:25.Osea 6:9. între bărbații lui Iuda și între locuitorii Ierusalimului. 10 S-au întors la*Ezec. 20:18. nelegiuirile celor dintâi părinți ai lor, care n-au vrut să asculte cuvintele Mele și s-au dus și ei după alți dumnezei ca să le slujească. Casa lui Israel și casa lui Iuda au călcat legământul Meu pe care-l făcusem cu părinții lor." 11 De aceea, așa vorbește Domnul: „Iată, voi aduce peste ei niște nenorociri din care nu vor putea să scape. Vor striga*Ps. 18:41.Prov. 1:28.Is. 1:15. Cap. 14:12.Ezec. 8:18.Mica 3:4.Zah. 7:13. la Mine, dar nu-i voi asculta! 12 Cetățile lui Iuda și locuitorii Ierusalimului se vor duce să cheme*Deut. 32:37,38. pe dumnezeii cărora le aduc tămâie, dar nu-i vor scăpa la vremea nenorocirii lor. 13 Căci câte cetăți*Cap. 2:28. ai, atâția dumnezei ai, Iuda! Și câte ulițe are Ierusalimul, atâtea altare ați ridicat idolilor, altare ca să aduceți tămâie lui Baal!… 14 Tu însă nu mijloci*Exod 32:10. Cap. 7:16;14:11.1 Ioan 5:16. pentru poporul acesta, nu înălța nici cereri, nici rugăciuni pentru ei, căci nu-i voi asculta nicidecum când Mă vor chema din pricina nenorocirii lor. 15 Ce ar putea*Ps. 50:16.Is. 1:11. să facă preaiubitul Meu popor în Casa Mea? Să facă o mulțime de nelegiuiri*Ezec. 16:25. în ea? Vor îndepărta juruințele și carnea sfântă*Hag. 2:12-14.Tit 1:15. răutatea dinaintea ta? Atunci ai putea să te*Prov. 2:14. bucuri! 16 ‘Măslin*Ps. 52:8.Rom. 11:17. verde, gras și cu roade frumoase și plăcute’ este numele pe care ți-l dăduse Domnul, dar cu vuietul unei mari trosnituri îl arde cu foc și ramurile lui sunt sfărâmate. 17 Căci Domnul oștirilor, care te-a sădit*Is. 5:2. Cap. 3:21., cheamă nenorocirea peste tine din pricina răutății casei lui Israel și a casei lui Iuda, pe care au făcut-o ca să Mă mânie, aducând tămâie lui Baal." 18 Domnul mi-a dat de știre și am știut; atunci Tu mi-ai arătat faptele lor. 19 Dar eu eram ca un miel blând pe care-l duci la măcelărie și nu știam planurile rele*Cap. 18:18. pe care le urzeau ei împotriva mea, zicând: „Să nimicim pomul cu rodul lui, să-l stârpim*Ps. 83:4. din pământul*Ps. 27:13;116:9;142:5. celor vii, ca să nu i se mai pomenească numele." 20 O, Doamne, Dumnezeul oștirilor, Tu, care ești un judecător drept, care cercetezi*1 Sam. 16:7.1 Cron. 28:9.Ps. 7:9. Cap. 17:10; 20:12.Apoc. 2:23. rărunchii și inimile, fă-mă să văd răzbunarea Ta împotriva lor, căci Ție Îți încredințez pricina mea! 21 De aceea, așa vorbește Domnul împotriva oamenilor din Anatot, care vor să-ți ia viața*Cap. 12:5,6. și zic: „Nu proroci*Is. 30:10.Amos 2:12;7:13,16.Mica 2:6. în Numele Domnului, căci vei muri ucis de mâna noastră!" 22 De aceea, așa vorbește Domnul oștirilor: „Iată, îi voi pedepsi; tinerii vor muri uciși de sabie, iar fiii și fiicele lor vor muri de foamete. 23 Și niciunul din ei nu va scăpa, căci voi aduce nenorocirea peste oamenii din Anatot în anul când îi voi*Cap. 23:12;46:21;48:44;50:27.Luca 19:44. pedepsi."
