1 The word that Jehovah spoke concerning Babylon, concerning the land of the Chaldeans, through Jeremiah the prophet. 2 Declare ye among the nations, and publish, and lift up a banner; publish, conceal not! Say, Babylon is taken, Bel is put to shame, Merodach is dismayed: her images are put to shame, her idols are dismayed. 3 For out of the north there cometh up a nation against her, which shall make her land desolate, and none shall dwell therein: both man and beast are fled; they are gone. 4 In those days, and at that time, saith Jehovah, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and weeping as they go, and shall seek Jehovah their God*GodHebrew: Elohim5 They shall inquire concerning Zion, with their faces thitherward, saying, Come, and let us join ourselves to Jehovah, in an everlasting covenant that shall not be forgotten. 6 My people are lost sheep; their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they turned them away on the mountains: they went from mountain to hill, they forgot their resting-place. 7 All that found them devoured them, and their adversaries said, We are not guilty, because they have sinned against Jehovah, the habitation of righteousness, even Jehovah, the hope of their fathers. 8 Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as the he-goats before the flock.

9 For behold, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon, an assemblage of great nations from the north country; and they shall set themselves in array against her: from thence shall she be taken. Their arrows shall be as those of a mighty expert man: none shall return empty. 10 And Chaldea shall be a spoil: all the spoilers thereof shall be satiated, saith Jehovah. 11 For ye rejoiced, for ye triumphed, ye plunderers of my heritage; for ye have been wanton as the heifer at grass, and neighed as steeds. 12 Your mother hath been sorely put to shame; she that bore you hath been covered with reproach: behold, she is become hindmost of the nations, a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert. 13 Because of the wrath of Jehovah, it shall not be inhabited, but it shall be wholly desolate; every one that goeth by Babylon shall be astonished, and shall hiss, because of all her plagues. 14 Put yourselves in array against Babylon round about, all ye that bend the bow; shoot at her, spare no arrows: for she hath sinned against Jehovah. 15 Shout against her round about: she hath given her hand; her ramparts are fallen, her walls are thrown down: for this is the vengeance of Jehovah. Take vengeance upon her; as she hath done, do unto her. 16 Cut off the sower from Babylon, and him that handleth the sickle in the time of harvest. For fear of the oppressing sword let them turn every one to his people, and let them flee every one to his own land. 17 Israel is a hunted sheep; the lions have driven him away: first the king of Assyria devoured him, and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath broken his bones. 18 Therefore thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of Israel: Behold, I will visit the king of Babylon and his land, like as I have visited the king of Assyria. 19 And I will bring Israel again to his pasture, and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied upon mount Ephraim and in Gilead. 20 In those days, and at that time, saith Jehovah, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon those whom I leave remaining.

21 Go up against the land of double rebellion, against it, and against the inhabitants of visitation; waste and utterly destroy after them, saith Jehovah, and do according to all that I have commanded thee. 22 A sound of battle is in the land, and great destruction. 23 How is the hammer of the whole earth cut asunder and broken! How is Babylon become an astonishment among the nations! 24 I have laid a snare for thee, and thou, Babylon, art also taken, and thou wast not aware; thou art found, and also caught, for thou hast contended with Jehovah. 25 Jehovah hath opened his armoury, and hath brought forth the weapons of his indignation; for this is a work for the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, in the land of the Chaldeans. 26 Come ye against her from every quarter, open her storehouses; pile her up like sheaves, and destroy her utterly: let nothing of her be left. 27 Slay all her bullocks; let them go down to the slaughter: woe unto them! for their day is come, the time of their visitation. 28 The voice of them that flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of Jehovah our God*GodHebrew: Elohim the vengeance of his temple. 29 Call together the archers against Babylon, all those that bend the bow: encamp against her round about; let there be no escaping: recompense her according to her work; according to all that she hath done, do unto her: for she hath acted proudly against Jehovah, against the Holy One of Israel. 30 Therefore shall her young men fall in her streets; and all her men of war shall be cut off in that day, saith Jehovah. 31 Behold, I am against thee, proud one, saith the Lord Jehovah of hosts; for thy day is come, the time that I visit thee: 32 and the proud one shall stumble and fall, and none shall raise him up; yea, I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all that are round about him.

33 Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: The children of Israel and the children of Judah were together oppressed; and all that took them captives held them fast: they refused to let them go. 34 Their Redeemer is strong; Jehovah of hosts is his name: he will thoroughly plead their cause, that he may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon. 35 The sword is upon the Chaldeans, saith Jehovah, and upon the inhabitants of Babylon, and upon her princes, and upon her wise men; 36 the sword is upon the liars, and they shall become fools; the sword is upon her mighty men, and they shall be dismayed; 37 the sword is upon their horses, and upon their chariots, and upon all the mingled people that are in the midst of her, and they shall become as women; the sword is upon her treasures, and they shall be robbed: 38 a drought is upon her waters, and they shall be dried up; for it is a land of graven images, and they are mad after frightful idols. 39 Therefore wild beasts of the desert with jackals shall dwell there, and ostriches shall dwell therein; and it shall be no more inhabited for ever, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation. 40 As when God*GodHebrew: Elohim overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and their neighbour cities, saith Jehovah, no one shall dwell there, neither shall a son of man sojourn therein. 41 Behold, a people cometh from the north, and a great nation. And many kings shall arise from the uttermost parts of the earth. 42 They lay hold of bow and spear; they are cruel, and will not shew mercy; their voice roareth like the sea, and they ride upon horses — set in array like a man for the battle, against thee, O daughter of Babylon. 43 The king of Babylon hath heard the report of them, and his hands wax feeble; trouble hath taken hold of him, pangs as of a woman in travail. 44 Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of the Jordan against the strong habitation; for I will make him suddenly run away from it; and who is a chosen man whom I may appoint over her? For who is like me? and who will assign me a time? and who is that shepherd that will stand before me? 45 Therefore hear the counsel of Jehovah, which he hath taken against Babylon, and his purposes which he hath purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: The little ones of the flock shall certainly draw them away; he shall certainly make their habitation desolate for them. 46 At the sound of the taking of Babylon the earth hath quaked, and the cry is heard among the nations.

Idolii*Cap. 43:12,13. lui sunt acoperiți de rușine, idolii lui sunt sfărâmați!’ 3 Căci împotriva lui se suie un neam*Is. 13:17,18,20. Vers. 39,40. de la*Cap. 51:48. miazănoapte, care-i va preface țara într-o pustie și nu va mai fi locuită; atât oamenii, cât și dobitoacele fug și se duc. 4 În zilele acelea, în vremurile acelea", zice Domnul, „copiii lui Israel și copiii lui Iuda*Osea 1:11. se vor întoarce împreună; vor merge*Ezra 3:12,13.Ps. 126:5,6. Cap. 31:9.Zah. 12:10. plângând și vor căuta*Osea 3:5. pe Domnul Dumnezeul lor. 5 Vor întreba de drumul Sionului, își vor întoarce privirile spre el și vor zice: ‘Veniți să ne alipim de Domnul printr-un legământ*Cap. 31:31;32:40. veșnic, care să nu fie uitat niciodată!’ 6 Poporul Meu era o turmă de oi*Is. 53:6. Vers. 17.1 Pet. 2:25. pierdute; păstorii lor îi rătăceau, îi făceau să cutreiere*Cap. 2:20. Cap. 3:6,23. munții; treceau de pe munți pe dealuri, uitându-și staulul. 7 Toți cei ce-i găseau îi mâncau*Ps. 79:7. și vrăjmașii lor*Cap. 40:2,3.Zah. 11:5. ziceau: ‘Noi nu*Cap. 2:3.Dan. 9:16. suntem vinovați, fiindcă au păcătuit împotriva Domnului, Locașul neprihănirii*Ps. 90:1;91:1., împotriva Domnului, Nădejdea*Ps. 22:4. părinților lor.’ 8 Fugiți*Is. 48:20. Cap. 51:6,45.Zah. 2:6,7.Apoc. 18:4. din Babilon, ieșiți din țara haldeenilor, și mergeți ca niște țapi în fruntea turmei! 9 Căci iată*Cap. 25:14;51:27. Vers. 3,41. că voi ridica și voi aduce împotriva Babilonului o mulțime de neamuri mari din țara de la miazănoapte; se vor înșirui*Vers. 14,29. în șiruri de bătaie împotriva lui și vor pune stăpânire pe el; săgețile lui sunt ca ale unui războinic iscusit, care nu se întoarce cu mâinile*2 Sam. 1:22. goale. 10 Astfel va fi dată pradă jafului Haldeea, și toți*Apoc. 17:16. cei ce o vor jefui se vor sătura de jaf", zice Domnul. 11 „Căci voi v-ați bucurat*Is. 47:6. și v-ați veselit când Mi-ați jefuit moștenirea Mea! Da, săreați ca o juncană*Osea 10:11. în iarbă, nechezați ca niște armăsari focoși! 12 Mama voastră este acoperită de rușine, cea care v-a născut roșește de rușine; iată, ea este coada neamurilor, este un pustiu, un pământ uscat și fără apă! 13 Din pricina mâniei Domnului nu va mai fi locuită și va fi*Cap. 25:12. o pustietate. Toți*Cap. 49:17. cei ce vor trece pe lângă Babilon se vor mira și vor fluiera pentru toate rănile lui. 14 Înșiruiți-vă*Vers. 9. Cap. 51:2. de bătaie împrejurul Babilonului voi, toți*Cap. 49:35. Vers. 29. arcașii! Trageți împotriva lui, nu faceți economie de săgeți! Căci a păcătuit împotriva Domnului. 15 Scoateți din toate părțile un strigăt de război împotriva lui! El întinde*1 Cron. 29:24.2 Cron. 30:8.Plâng. 5:6.Ezec. 17:18. mâinile; temeliile i se prăbușesc; zidurile*Cap. 51:58. i se surpă. Căci este răzbunarea*Cap. 51:6,11. Domnului. Răzbunați-vă pe el! Faceți-i cum*Ps. 137:8. Vers. 29.Apoc. 18:6. a făcut și el! 16 Nimiciți cu desăvârșire din Babilon pe cel ce seamănă și pe cel ce mânuiește secera la vremea secerișului! Înaintea sabiei nimicitorului, fiecare*Is. 13:14. Cap. 51:9. să se întoarcă la poporul său, fiecare să fugă spre țara lui. 17 Israel este o oaie rătăcită*Vers. 6. pe care au gonit-o*Cap. 2:15. leii; împăratul*2 Împ. 17:6. Asiriei a mâncat-o cel dintâi și acesta din urmă i-a zdrobit oasele, acest Nebucadnețar*2 Împ. 24:10,14., împăratul Babilonului." 18 De aceea, așa vorbește Domnul oștirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: „Iată, voi pedepsi pe împăratul Babilonului și țara lui cum am pedepsit pe împăratul Asiriei. 19 Voi aduce înapoi*Is. 65:10. Cap. 33:12.Ezec. 34:13,14. pe Israel în pășunea lui; va paște pe Carmel și pe Basan și își va potoli foamea pe muntele lui Efraim și în Galaad. 20 În zilele acelea, în vremea aceea", zice Domnul, „se va căuta nelegiuirea*Cap. 31:34. lui Israel, și nu va mai fi, și păcatul lui Iuda, și nu se va mai găsi, căci voi ierta rămășița*Is. 1:9. pe care o voi lăsa. 21 Suie-te împotriva țării de două ori răzvrătite*Ezec. 23:23., împotriva locuitorilor ei și pedepsește-i! Urmărește-i, măcelărește-i, nimicește-i", zice Domnul, „și împlinește în totul poruncile*2 Sam. 16:11.2 Împ. 18:25.2 Cron. 36:23.Is. 10:6;44:28;48:14. Cap. 34:22. Mele! 22 Strigăte de război*Cap. 51:54. răsună în țară și prăpădul este mare. 23 Cum s-a rupt și s-a sfărâmat ciocanul*Is. 14:6. Cap. 51:20. întregului pământ! Babilonul este nimicit în mijlocul neamurilor! 24 Ți-am întins o cursă, și ai fost prins, Babilonule, fără*Cap. 51:8,31,39,57.Dan. 5:30,31. să te aștepți. Ai fost ajuns, apucat, pentru că ai luptat împotriva Domnului. 25 Domnul Și-a deschis casa de arme și a scos din ea armele*Is. 13:5. mâniei Lui, căci aceasta este o lucrare a Domnului Dumnezeului oștirilor în țara haldeenilor. 26 Pătrundeți din toate părțile în Babilon, deschideți-i grânarele, faceți-le niște mormane ca niște grămezi de snopi și nimiciți-le. Nimic să nu mai rămână din el! 27 Ucideți-i toți taurii*Ps. 22:12.Is. 34:7. Cap. 46:21. și înjunghiați-i! Vai de ei! Căci le-a venit ziua, vremea pedepsirii*Cap. 48:44. Vers. 31. lor! 28 Ascultați strigătele fugarilor, ale celor ce scapă din țara Babilonului, ca să vestească*Cap. 51:10,11. în Sion răzbunarea Domnului Dumnezeului nostru, răzbunarea pentru Templul Său! 29 Chemați împotriva Babilonului pe arcași, voi toți*Vers. 14. care încordați arcul! Tăbărâți în jurul lui, ca nimeni să nu scape, răsplătiți-i*Vers. 15. Cap. 51:56.Apoc. 18:6. după faptele lui, faceți-i întocmai cum a făcut și el! Căci*Is. 47:10. s-a semețit împotriva Domnului, împotriva Sfântului lui Israel! 30 De aceea*Cap. 49:26;51:4., tinerii lui vor cădea pe ulițe și toți oamenii lui de război vor pieri în ziua aceea", zice Domnul. 31 „Iată, am necaz pe tine, îngâmfatule", zice Domnul Dumnezeul oștirilor, „căci ți-a sosit ziua*Vers. 27., vremea pedepsirii tale! 32 Îngâmfatul acela se va poticni și va cădea și nimeni nu-l va ridica, voi pune*Cap. 21:14. foc cetăților lui, și-i va mistui toate împrejurimile." 33 Așa vorbește Domnul oștirilor: „Copiii lui Israel și copiii lui Iuda sunt apăsați împreună; toți cei ce i-au dus robi îi opresc și nu vor să le dea drumul. 34 Dar*Apoc. 18:8. puternic este Răzbunătorul lor, El, al cărui Nume*Is. 47:4. este Domnul oștirilor. El le va apăra pricina, ca să dea odihnă țării și să facă pe locuitorii Babilonului să tremure. 35 Sabia împotriva haldeenilor", zice Domnul, „împotriva locuitorilor Babilonului, împotriva căpeteniilor*Dan. 5:30. și înțelepților*Is. 47:13. lui! 36 Sabia împotriva prorocilor minciunii*Is. 44:25. Cap. 48:30., ca să ajungă ca niște oameni fără minte! Sabia împotriva vitejilor lui, ca să rămână încremeniți! 37 Sabia împotriva cailor și carelor lui, împotriva oamenilor*Cap. 25:20,24.Ezec. 30:5. de tot felul care sunt în mijlocul lui, ca să ajungă*Cap. 51:30.Naum 3:13. ca femeile! Sabia împotriva vistieriilor lui, ca să fie jefuite! 38 Seceta*Is. 44:27. Cap. 51:32,36.Apoc. 16:12. peste apele lui, ca să sece! Căci este o țară de idoli*Vers. 2. Cap. 51:44,47,52. și au înnebunit cu idolii lor. 39 De aceea*Is. 13:21,22;34:14. Cap. 51:37.Apoc. 18:2., fiarele pustiei se vor așeza acolo împreună cu șacalii și struții vor locui acolo; nu va mai fi locuit niciodată, ci veșnic va rămâne nelocuit*Is. 13:20. Cap. 25:12.. 40 Ca*Gen. 19:25.Is. 13:19. Cap. 49:18; 51:26. și Sodoma și Gomora și cetățile vecine pe care le-a nimicit Dumnezeu", zice Domnul, „așa nu va mai fi locuit nici el și nimeni nu se va mai așeza acolo. 41 Iată*Vers. 9. Cap. 6:22;25:14;51:27.Apoc. 17:16., vine un popor de la miazănoapte și un neam mare și niște împărați puternici se ridică de la marginile pământului. 42 Poartă*Cap. 6:23. arc și suliță, sunt*Is. 13:18. necruțători și fără milă; glasul*Is. 5:30. le mugește ca marea; sunt călare pe cai, ca un om gata de luptă împotriva ta, fiica Babilonului! 43 Împăratul Babilonului aude vestea, mâinile i se slăbesc și îl apucă groaza*Cap. 49:24., ca durerea pe o femeie care naște… 44 Iată, vrăjmașul*Cap. 49:19. se suie ca un leu de pe malurile îngâmfate ale Iordanului împotriva locuinței tale tari; deodată îi voi izgoni de acolo și voi pune peste ei pe acela pe care l-am ales. Căci cine*Iov 41:10. Cap. 49:19. este ca Mine? Cine-Mi va porunci? Și care căpetenie Îmi va sta împotrivă?" 45 De aceea, ascultați hotărârea*Is. 14:24. Cap. 51:11. pe care a luat-o Domnul împotriva Babilonului și planurile pe care le-a făcut El împotriva țării haldeenilor: „Cu adevărat, îi vor târî ca pe niște oi slabe, cu adevărat, le vor pustii locuința. 46 De strigătul*Apoc. 18:9. luării Babilonului se cutremură pământul și se aude un strigăt de durere printre neamuri."
