1 And all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even to the greatest, 2 came near and said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we beseech thee, our supplication come before thee, and pray for us unto Jehovah thy God*GodHebrew: Elohim for all this remnant (for we are left a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us); 3 that Jehovah thy God*GodHebrew: Elohim may shew us the way wherein we should walk, and the thing that we should do. 4 And Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, I have heard; behold, I will pray unto Jehovah your God*GodHebrew: Elohim according to your words; and it shall come to pass that whatsoever thing Jehovah shall answer you, I will declare it unto you: I will keep nothing back from you. 5 And they said to Jeremiah, Jehovah be a true and faithful witness amongst us, if we do not even according to all the word for which Jehovah thy God*GodHebrew: Elohim shall send thee to us. 6 Whether it be good or whether it be evil, we will hearken unto the voice of Jehovah our God*GodHebrew: Elohim to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us when we hearken unto the voice of Jehovah our God*GodHebrew: Elohim

7 And it came to pass at the end of ten days, that the word of Jehovah came unto Jeremiah. 8 And he called Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest, 9 and said unto them, Thus saith Jehovah the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of Israel, to whom ye sent me to present your supplication before him: 10 If ye will still abide in this land, then will I build you, and not overthrow you, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up; for I repent me of the evil that I have done unto you. 11 Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid: be not afraid of him, saith Jehovah; for I will be with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand. 12 And I will grant mercies to you, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your own land. 13 But if ye say, We will not dwell in this land; so as not to hearken unto the voice of Jehovah your God*GodHebrew: Elohim14 saying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger for bread; and there will we dwell; 15 — and now, therefore, hear the word of Jehovah, ye remnant of Judah: thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of Israel: If ye really set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there, 16 then it shall come to pass, that the sword which ye fear shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, whereof ye are afraid, shall follow hard after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die. 17 And it shall be that all the men that have set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence; and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them. 18 For thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of Israel: As mine anger and my fury have been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so shall my fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt; and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach, and ye shall see this place no more. 19 Jehovah hath said concerning you, the remnant of Judah, Go ye not into Egypt. Know certainly that I have admonished you this day. 20 For ye deceived yourselves in your own souls, when ye sent me unto Jehovah your God*GodHebrew: Elohim saying, Pray for us unto Jehovah our God*GodHebrew: Elohim and according to all that Jehovah our God*GodHebrew: Elohim shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it. 21 And I have this day declared it to you; but ye have not obeyed the voice of Jehovah your God*GodHebrew: Elohim nor anything for which he hath sent me unto you. 22 And now know certainly that ye shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place whither ye desire to go to sojourn.

1 Toate căpeteniile oștilor, Iohanan*Cap. 40:8,13;41:11., fiul lui Careah, Iezania, fiul lui Hosea, și tot poporul, de la cel mai mic până la cel mai mare, au înaintat 2 și au zis prorocului Ieremia: „Fie bine primită înaintea ta rugămintea noastră! Mijlocește*1 Sam. 7:8;12:19.Is. 37:4.Iac. 5:16. pentru noi la Domnul Dumnezeul tău, pentru toți cei ce au mai rămas, căci eram mulți*Lev. 26:22., dar am mai rămas numai un mic număr, cum bine vezi tu însuți cu ochii tăi. 3 Binevoiască Domnul Dumnezeul tău să ne arate drumul*Ezra 8:21. pe care trebuie să mergem și să ne spună ce avem de făcut!" 4 Prorocul Ieremia le-a zis: „Am auzit! Iată că mă voi ruga Domnului Dumnezeului vostru, după cererea voastră, și vă voi face cunoscut, fără să vă ascund*1 Sam. 3:18.Fapte 20:20. ceva, tot*1 Împ. 22:14. ce vă va răspunde Domnul!" 5 Atunci, ei au zis lui Ieremia: „Domnul*Gen. 31:50. să fie un martor adevărat și credincios împotriva noastră dacă nu vom face tot ce-ți va porunci Domnul Dumnezeul tău să ne spui! 6 Fie bine, fie rău, noi vom asculta de glasul Domnului Dumnezeului nostru, la care te trimitem, ca să fim fericiți*Deut. 6:3. Cap. 7:23. ascultând de glasul Domnului Dumnezeului nostru!" 7 După zece zile, Cuvântul Domnului a vorbit lui Ieremia. 8 Și Ieremia a chemat pe Iohanan, fiul lui Careah, pe toate căpeteniile oștilor care erau cu el și pe tot poporul, de la cel mai mic până la cel mai mare, 9 și le-a zis: „Așa vorbește Domnul Dumnezeul lui Israel, la care m-ați trimis să-I aduc înainte rugăciunile voastre: 10 ‘Dacă veți rămâne în țara aceasta, vă voi face să propășiți*Cap. 24:6;31:28;33:7. în ea, și nu vă voi nimici; vă voi sădi, și nu vă voi smulge, căci Îmi*Deut. 32:36. Cap. 18:8. pare rău de răul pe care vi l-am făcut! 11 Nu vă temeți de împăratul Babilonului, de care vă este frică; nu vă temeți de el’, zice Domnul, ‘căci*Is. 43:5.Rom. 8:31. Eu sunt cu voi ca să vă scap și să vă scot din mâna lui. 12 Îi voi insufla milă*Ps. 106:45,46. de voi, și se va îndura de voi și vă va lăsa să locuiți în țara voastră. 13 Dar, dacă nu veți asculta de glasul Domnului Dumnezeului vostru și dacă veți zice*Cap. 44:16.: «Nu vrem să rămânem în țara aceasta, 14 nu, ci vom merge în țara Egiptului, unde nu vom vedea nici războiul, nici nu vom auzi glasul trâmbiței, nici nu vom duce lipsă de pâine, și acolo vom locui!», 15 atunci, ascultați Cuvântul Domnului, rămășițe ale lui Iuda: «Așa vorbește Domnul oștirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: ‹Dacă*Deut. 17:16. Cap. 44:12-14. vă veți îndrepta*Luca 9:51. fața să mergeți în Egipt, dacă vă veți duce să locuiți pentru o vreme acolo, 16 sabia de care*Ezec. 11:8. vă temeți vă va ajunge acolo, în țara Egiptului, foametea de care vă este frică se va lipi de voi acolo, în Egipt, și veți muri acolo. 17 Toți cei ce își vor îndrepta fața să meargă în Egipt ca să locuiască pentru o vreme acolo vor muri*Cap. 24:10. Vers. 22. de sabie, de foamete sau de ciumă; niciunul*Cap. 44:14,28. nu va rămâne și nu va scăpa de nenorocirile pe care le voi aduce peste ei!›»’ 18 Căci așa vorbește Domnul oștirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: ‘Cum s-au vărsat*Cap. 7:20. mânia și urgia Mea peste locuitorii Ierusalimului, așa se va vărsa urgia Mea și peste voi, dacă veți merge în Egipt; veți fi o pricină de afurisenie, de groază, de blestem*Cap. 18:16;24:9;26:6;29:18,22;44:12.Zah. 8:13. și de ocară și nu veți mai vedea niciodată locul acesta!’ 19 Rămășițe ale lui Iuda, Domnul vă zice: ‘Nu*Deut. 17:16. vă duceți în Egipt!’ Băgați bine de seamă că vă opresc lucrul acesta astăzi. 20 Căci vă înșelați singuri dacă m-ați trimis la Domnul Dumnezeul vostru, zicând: ‘Mijlocește*Vers. 2. pentru noi la Domnul Dumnezeul nostru, fă-ne cunoscut tot ce va spune Domnul Dumnezeul nostru și vom face!’ 21 Eu v-am spus astăzi, dar voi n-ascultați glasul Domnului Dumnezeului vostru, nici tot ce m-a însărcinat El să vă spun. 22 De aceea să știți că veți*Vers. 17.Ezec. 6:11. muri de sabie, de foamete sau de ciumă în locul unde voiți să vă duceți să locuiți!"
