1 The word that came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying, 2 Stand in the gate of Jehovah’s house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear ye the word of Jehovah, all Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship Jehovah. 3 Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of Israel: Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place. 4 Confide ye not in words of falsehood, saying, Jehovah’s temple, Jehovah’s temple, Jehovah’s temple is this. 5 But if ye thoroughly amend your ways and your doings, if ye really do justice between a man and his neighbour, 6 if ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed no innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt; 7 then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers from of old even for ever. 8 Behold, ye confide in words of falsehood that cannot profit. 9 What? steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not... 10 then ye come and stand before me, in this house which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered, — in order to do all these abominations! 11 Is this house, which is called by my name, a den of robbers in your eyes? Even I, behold, I have seen it, saith Jehovah. 12 For go now unto my place which was in Shiloh, where I caused my name to dwell at the first, and see what I did to it, for the wickedness of my people Israel. 13 And now, because ye have done all these works, saith Jehovah, and I spoke unto you, rising up early and speaking, and ye heard not, and I called you, and ye answered not; 14 I will even do unto the house which is called by my name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh; 15 and I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all your brethren, all the seed of Ephraim.

16 And thou, pray not for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, and make not intercession to me; for I will not hear thee. 17 Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem? 18 The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink-offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger. 19 Is it I whom they provoke to anger? saith Jehovah; is it not themselves, to the shame of their own face? 20 Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, mine anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place; upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched.

21 Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of Israel: Add your burnt-offerings to your sacrifices, and eat the flesh. 22 For I spoke not unto your fathers, nor commanded them concerning burnt-offerings and sacrifices, in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt; 23 but I commanded them this thing, saying, Hearken unto my voice, and I will be your God*GodHebrew: Elohim and ye shall be my people; and walk in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you. 24 But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels, in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and went backward and not forward. 25 Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt, unto this day, have I sent unto you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them; 26 but they have not hearkened unto me, nor inclined their ear; and they have hardened their neck: they have done worse than their fathers. 27 And thou shalt speak all these words unto them, but they will not hearken unto thee; and thou shalt call unto them, but they will not answer thee. 28 And thou shalt say unto them, This is the nation which hath not hearkened unto the voice of Jehovah their God*GodHebrew: Elohim nor received correction; fidelity is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.

29 Cut off thy hair, and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on the heights; for Jehovah hath rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath. 30 For the children of Judah have done evil in my sight, saith Jehovah; they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it. 31 And they have built the high places of Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded not, neither did it come up into my mind. 32 Therefore, behold, days are coming, saith Jehovah, when it shall no more be said, Topheth, and Valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter; for they shall bury in Topheth, till there be no place. 33 And the carcases of this people shall be food for the fowl of the heavens, and for the beasts of the earth; and none shall scare them away. 34 And I will cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of mirth and the voice of joy, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride; for the land shall become a waste.

Domnului: 2 „Șezi la poarta Casei Domnului, vestește acolo cuvântul acesta și spune: ‘Ascultați Cuvântul Domnului, toți bărbații lui Iuda care intrați pe aceste porți ca să vă închinați înaintea Domnului!’" 3 Așa vorbește Domnul oștirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: „Îndreptați-vă căile*Cap. 18:11;26:13. și faptele, și vă voi lăsa să locuiți în locul acesta. 4 Nu vă hrăniți*Mica 3:11. cu nădejdi înșelătoare, zicând: ‘Acesta este Templul Domnului, Templul Domnului, Templul Domnului!’ 5 Căci numai dacă vă veți îndrepta căile și faptele, dacă veți înfăptui dreptatea*Cap. 22:3. unii față de alții, 6 dacă nu veți asupri pe străin, pe orfan și pe văduvă, dacă nu veți vărsa sânge nevinovat în locul acesta și dacă nu veți merge*Deut. 6:14,15;8:19;11:28. Cap. 13:10. după alți dumnezei, spre nenorocirea voastră, 7 numai așa*Deut. 4:40. vă voi lăsa să locuiți în locul acesta, în țara*Cap. 3:18. pe care am dat-o părinților voștri, din veșnicie în veșnicie. 8 Dar iată că voi vă hrăniți*Vers. 4. cu nădejdi înșelătoare*Cap. 5:31;14:13,14., care nu slujesc la nimic. 9 Cum? Furați*1 Împ. 18:21.Osea 4:1,2.Ţef. 1:5., ucideți, preacurviți, jurați strâmb, aduceți tămâie lui Baal, mergeți după alți dumnezei*Exod 20:3. Vers. 6. pe care nu-i cunoașteți… 10 Și apoi veniți*Ezec. 23:39. să vă înfățișați înaintea Mea, în Casa aceasta peste care este chemat Numele Meu*Vers. 11,14,30. Cap. 32:34;34:15., și ziceți: ‘Suntem izbăviți!’, ca iarăși să faceți toate aceste urâciuni! 11 Este Casa aceasta*Is. 56:7., peste care este chemat Numele Meu, o peșteră*Mat. 21:13.Marcu 11:12.Luca 19:46. de tâlhari înaintea voastră? Eu Însumi văd lucrul acesta", zice Domnul. 12 „Duceți-vă dar la locul*Ios. 18:1.Jud. 18:31. care-Mi fusese închinat la Silo, unde*Deut. 12:11. pusesem să locuiască odinioară Numele Meu, și vedeți ce i-am făcut*1 Sam. 4:10,11.Ps. 78:60. Cap. 26:6. din pricina răutății poporului Meu Israel! 13 Și acum, fiindcă ați făcut toate aceste fapte", zice Domnul, „fiindcă v-am vorbit dis-de-dimineață*2 Cron. 36:15. Vers. 25. Cap. 11:7., și n-ați ascultat, fiindcă v-am chemat*Prov. 1:24.Is. 65:12;66:4., și n-ați răspuns, 14 voi face Casei peste care este chemat Numele Meu, în care vă puneți încrederea, și locului pe care vi l-am dat vouă și părinților voștri, le voi face întocmai cum am făcut lui Silo*1 Sam. 4:10,11.Ps. 78:60. Cap. 26:6.. 15 Și vă voi lepăda de la Fața Mea, cum*2 Împ. 17:23. am lepădat pe toți frații voștri, pe toată sămânța*Ps. 78:67,68. lui Efraim! 16 Tu însă nu mijloci*Exod 32:10. Cap. 11:14;14:11. pentru poporul acesta, nu înălța nici cereri, nici rugăciuni pentru ei și nu stărui pe lângă Mine; căci*Cap. 15:1. nu te voi asculta! 17 Nu vezi ce fac ei în cetățile lui Iuda și pe ulițele Ierusalimului? 18 Copiii*Cap. 44:17,19. strâng lemne, părinții aprind focul și femeile frământă plămădeala, ca să pregătească turte împărătesei cerului și să toarne jertfe de băutură altor dumnezei*Cap. 19:13., ca să Mă mânie. 19 Pe Mine Mă mânie ei*Deut. 32:16,21. oare?", zice Domnul. „Nu pe ei înșiși, spre rușinea lor?" 20 De aceea, așa vorbește Domnul Dumnezeu: „Iată, mânia și urgia Mea se vor vărsa peste locul acesta, peste oameni și dobitoace, peste copacii de pe câmp și peste roadele pământului, și va arde, și nu se va stinge." 21 Așa vorbește Domnul oștirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: „Adăugați*Is. 1:11. Cap. 6:20.Amos 5:21.Osea 8:13. arderile voastre de tot la jertfele voastre și mâncați-le carnea! 22 Căci n-am vorbit*1 Sam. 15:22.Ps. 51:16,17.Osea 6:6. nimic cu părinții voștri și nu le-am dat nicio poruncă cu privire la arderi-de-tot și jertfe în ziua când i-am scos din țara Egiptului. 23 Ci iată porunca pe care le-am dat-o: ‘Ascultați glasul*Exod 15:26.Deut. 6:3. Cap. 11:4,7. Meu, și Eu voi fi*Exod 19:5.Lev. 26:12. Dumnezeul vostru, iar voi veți fi poporul Meu; umblați pe toate căile pe care vi le-am poruncit, ca să fiți fericiți!’ 24 Dar*Ps. 81:11. Cap. 11:8. ei n-au ascultat și n-au luat aminte, ci au urmat*Deut. 29:19.Ps. 81:12. sfaturile și pornirile inimii lor rele, au dat înapoi*Cap. 2:27;32:33.Osea 4:16. și n-au mers înainte. 25 Din ziua când au ieșit părinții voștri din Egipt până în ziua de azi, v-am trimis*2 Cron. 36:15. Cap. 25:4;29:19. pe toți slujitorii Mei, prorocii, i-am trimis în fiecare zi, de*Vers. 13. dimineață. 26 Dar ei nu M-au ascultat*Vers. 24. Cap. 11:8;17:23;25:3,4., n-au luat aminte, și-au înțepenit*Neem. 9:17,29. Cap. 19:15. gâtul și au făcut*Cap. 16:12. mai rău decât părinții lor. 27 Și, chiar dacă le vei spune*Ezec. 2:7. toate aceste lucruri, tot nu te vor asculta și, dacă vei striga la ei, nu-ți vor răspunde. 28 De aceea, spune-le: ‘Acesta este poporul care n-ascultă glasul Domnului Dumnezeului său și care nu*Cap. 5:3;32:33. vrea să ia învățătură; s-a dus adevărul*Cap. 9:3., a fugit din gura lor. 29 Acum, tunde-ți*Iov 1:20.Is. 15:2. Cap. 16:6; 48:37.Mica 1:16. părul, Ierusalime, și aruncă-l departe; suie-te pe înălțimi și fă o cântare de jale! Căci Domnul leapădă și îndepărtează neamul de oameni care I-a ațâțat urgia.’ 30 Căci copiii lui Iuda au făcut ce este rău înaintea Mea", zice Domnul, „și-au așezat urâciunile*2 Împ. 21:4,7.2 Cron. 33:4,5,7. Cap. 23:11; 32:34.Ezec. 7:20;8:5.Dan. 9:27. lor în Casa peste care este chemat Numele Meu, ca s-o spurce. 31 Au zidit și locuri înalte la Tofet*2 Împ. 23:10. Cap. 19:5; 32:35., în valea Ben-Hinom, ca să-și ardă*Ps. 106:38. în foc fiii și fiicele – lucru pe care Eu nu-l poruncisem*Deut. 17:3. și nici nu-Mi trecuse prin minte. 32 De aceea, iată*Cap. 19:6., vin zile", zice Domnul, „când nu se va mai zice Tofet și valea Ben-Hinom, ci se va zice Valea Măcelului și se vor îngropa*2 Împ. 23:10. Cap. 19:11.Ezec. 6:5. morții la Tofet, din lipsă de loc. 33 Trupurile moarte*Deut. 28:26.Ps. 79:2. Cap. 12:9;16:4;34:20. ale acestui popor vor fi hrana păsărilor cerului și a fiarelor pământului, și nimeni nu le va speria. 34 Voi face astfel să înceteze*Is. 24:7,8. Cap. 16:9;25:10;33:11.Ezec. 26:13.Osea 2:11.Apoc. 18:23. în cetățile lui Iuda și pe ulițele Ierusalimului strigătele de bucurie și strigătele de veselie, cântecele mirelui și cântecele miresei, căci țara*Lev. 26:23.Is. 1:7;3:26. va ajunge un pustiu!
