1 The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, the king of Judah (that is, the first year of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon), 2 which Jeremiah the prophet spoke unto all the people of Judah and to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying: 3 From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon, the king of Judah, even unto this day, these three and twenty years, the word of Jehovah hath come unto me, and I have spoken unto you, rising early and speaking; but ye have not hearkened. 4 And Jehovah hath sent unto you all his servants the prophets, rising early and sending; but ye have not hearkened, nor inclined your ear to hear, 5 when they said, Turn again now every one from his evil way, and from the wickedness of your doings, and dwell in the land that Jehovah hath given unto you and to your fathers from of old even for ever. 6 And go not after other gods, to serve them and to worship them; and provoke me not to anger with the work of your hands; and I will do you no hurt. 7 But ye have not hearkened unto me, saith Jehovah; that ye might provoke me to anger with the work of your hands, to your own hurt.

8 Therefore thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Because ye have not listened to my words, 9 behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, saith Jehovah, and I will send to Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants thereof, and against all these nations round about; and I will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and perpetual wastes. 10 And I will cause to perish from them the voice of mirth and the voice of joy, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones and the light of the lamp. 11 And this whole land shall become a waste, an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years. 12 And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will visit on the king of Babylon and on that nation, saith Jehovah, their iniquity, and on the land of the Chaldeans, and I will make it perpetual desolations. 13 And I will bring upon that land all my words which I have pronounced against it, all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah hath prophesied against all the nations. 14 For many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of them also; and I will recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the work of their hands.

15 For thus hath Jehovah the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of Israel said unto me: Take the cup of the wine of this fury at my hand, and cause all the nations to whom I send thee to drink it. 16 And they shall drink, and reel to and fro, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them. 17 And I took the cup at Jehovah’s hand, and made all the nations to drink, to whom Jehovah had sent me: 18 Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and the kings thereof, and the princes thereof, to make them a waste, an astonishment, a hissing, and a curse, as it is this day; 19 Pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people; 20 and all the mingled people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Gazah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod; 21 Edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon; 22 and all the kings of Tyre, and all the kings of Zidon, and the kings of the isles that are beyond the sea; 23 Dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all that have the corners of their beard cut off; 24 and all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mingled people that dwell in the desert; 25 and all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes; 26 and all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another; and all the kingdoms of the world, which are upon the face of the earth; and the king of Sheshach shall drink after them. 27 And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of Israel: Drink, and be drunken, and vomit, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword that I will send among you. 28 And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup from thy hand to drink, then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Ye shall certainly drink. 29 For behold, I begin to bring evil on the city that is called by my name, and should ye be altogether unpunished? Ye shall not be unpunished; for I call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith Jehovah of hosts.

30 And thou, prophesy unto them all these words, and say unto them, Jehovah will roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he will mightily roar upon his dwelling-place, he will give a shout, as they that tread the vintage, against all the inhabitants of the earth. 31 The noise shall come to the end of the earth: for Jehovah hath a controversy with the nations, he entereth into judgment with all flesh; as for the wicked, he will give them up to the sword, saith Jehovah. 32 Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great storm shall be raised up from the uttermost parts of the earth. 33 And the slain of Jehovah shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the face of the ground. 34 Howl, ye shepherds, and cry; and wallow yourselves in the dust, noble ones of the flock: for the days of your slaughter are accomplished, and I will disperse you; and ye shall fall like a precious vessel. 35 And refuge shall perish from the shepherds, and escape from the noble ones of the flock. 36 There shall be a voice of the cry of the shepherds, and a howling of the noble ones of the flock: for Jehovah layeth waste their pasture; 37 and the peaceable enclosures shall be desolated, because of the fierce anger of Jehovah. 38 He hath forsaken his covert as a young lion; for their land is a desolation because of the fierceness of the oppressor, and because of his fierce anger.

Cap. 18:11; 35:15.Iona 3:8. de la calea voastră cea rea și de la răutatea faptelor voastre, și veți rămâne în țara pe care v-am dat-o vouă și părinților voștri, din veșnicie în veșnicie; 6 nu vă duceți după alți dumnezei, ca să le slujiți și să vă închinați înaintea lor, nu Mă mâniați prin lucrarea mâinilor voastre, și nu vă voi face niciun rău!’ 7 ‘Dar nu M-ați ascultat’, zice Domnul, ‘ci M-ați mâniat*Deut. 32:21. Cap. 7:19;32:30. prin lucrarea mâinilor voastre, spre nenorocirea voastră.’ 8 De aceea, așa vorbește Domnul oștirilor: ‘Pentru că n-ați ascultat cuvintele Mele, 9 iată, voi trimite să aducă toate*Cap. 1:15. popoarele de la miazănoapte’, zice Domnul, ‘și voi trimite la robul*Cap. 27:1;43:10.Is. 44:28;45:1. Cap. 40:2. Meu Nebucadnețar, împăratul Babilonului; îi voi aduce împotriva acestei țări și împotriva locuitorilor ei, și împotriva tuturor acestor neamuri de jur împrejur, ca să le nimicească cu desăvârșire și să facă din ele un pustiu*Cap. 18:16. și o pricină de batjocură, niște dărâmături veșnice. 10 Voi face să înceteze între ei strigătele de bucurie*Is. 24:7,8. Cap. 2:24;15:9.Ezec. 16:13.Osea 2:11.Apoc. 18:23. și strigătele de veselie, cântecele mirelui și cântecele miresei, huruitul morii*Ecl. 12:4. și lumina lămpii. 11 Toată țara aceasta va fi o paragină, un pustiu, și neamurile acestea vor fi supuse împăratului Babilonului timp de șaptezeci de ani. 12 Dar, când se vor împlini*2 Cron. 36:21,22.Ezra 1:1. Cap. 29:10.Dan. 9:2. acești șaptezeci de ani, voi pedepsi pe împăratul Babilonului și pe neamul acela’, zice Domnul, ‘pentru nelegiuirile lor; voi pedepsi țara haldeenilor și o voi preface în niște dărâmături*Is. 13:19;14:23;21:1;47:1. Cap. 50:3,13,23,39,40,45; 51:25,26. veșnice. 13 Voi aduce peste țara aceea toate lucrurile pe care le-am vestit despre ea, tot ce este scris în cartea aceasta, tot ce a prorocit Ieremia despre toate neamurile. 14 Căci*Cap. 50:9;51:27,28. neamuri puternice și împărați*Cap. 50:41;51:27. mari le vor supune*Cap. 27:7. și pe ele, și le voi răsplăti*Cap. 50:29;51:6,21. după faptele și lucrarea mâinilor lor.’" 15 Căci așa mi-a vorbit Domnul Dumnezeul lui Israel: „Ia*Iov 21:20.Ps. 75:8.Is. 51:17.Apoc. 14:10. din mâna Mea acest potir plin cu vinul mâniei Mele și dă-l să-l bea toate neamurile la care te voi trimite. 16 Vor bea*Cap. 51:7.Ezec. 23:34.Naum 3:11. și se vor ameți și vor fi ca niște nebuni la vederea sabiei pe care o voi trimite în mijlocul lor!" 17 Eu am luat potirul din mâna Domnului și l-am dat să-l bea toate neamurile la care mă trimitea Domnul: 18 Ierusalimului și cetăților lui Iuda, împăraților și căpeteniilor sale, ca să le prefacă în dărâmături*Vers. 9,11., într-un pustiu, să-i facă de batjocură și de blestem*Cap. 24:9., cum se vede lucrul acesta astăzi; 19 lui Faraon*Cap. 46:2,25., împăratul Egiptului, slujitorilor lui, căpeteniilor lui și tot poporului lui; 20 la toată Arabia*Vers. 24., tuturor împăraților țării Uț*Iov 1:1., tuturor împăraților*Cap. 47:1,5,7. țării filistenilor, Ascalonului, Gazei, Ecronului și celor ce au mai rămas*Is. 20:1. din Asdod; 21 Edomului*Cap. 49:7., Moabului*Cap. 48:1. și copiilor lui Amon*Cap. 49:1.; 22 tuturor împăraților Tirului*Cap. 47:4., tuturor împăraților Sidonului și împăraților ostroavelor care sunt dincolo de mare*Cap. 49:23.; 23 Dedanului*Cap. 49:8., Temei, Buzului și tuturor celor ce își rad colțurile bărbii, 24 tuturor împăraților Arabiei*2 Cron. 9:11. și tuturor împăraților arabilor*Vers. 20. Cap. 49:31;50:37.Ezec. 30:5. care locuiesc în pustie; 25 tuturor împăraților Zimrei, tuturor împăraților Elamului*Cap. 49:34. și tuturor împăraților Mediei; 26 tuturor împăraților*Cap. 50:9. de la miazănoapte, de aproape sau de departe, și unora, și altora, și tuturor împărățiilor lumii care sunt pe fața pământului. Iar împăratul Șeșacului*Cap. 51:41. va bea după ei. 27 „Să le spui: ‘Așa vorbește Domnul oștirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: «Beți*Hab. 2:16., îmbătați-vă*Is. 51:21;63:6. și vărsați și cădeți fără să vă mai ridicați la vederea sabiei pe care o voi trimite în mijlocul vostru!»’ 28 Și, dacă nu vor vrea să ia din mâna ta potirul ca să bea, spune-le: ‘Așa vorbește Domnul oștirilor: «Beți! 29 Căci iată că, în cetatea*Dan. 9:18,19. peste care se cheamă Numele Meu, încep*Prov. 11:31. Cap. 49:12.Ezec. 9:6.Obad. 16.Luca 23:31.1 Pet. 4:17. să fac rău. Și voi să rămâneți nepedepsiți? Nu veți rămâne nepedepsiți, căci voi chema*Ezec. 38:21. sabia peste toți locuitorii pământului», zice Domnul oștirilor.’ 30 Și tu să le prorocești toate aceste lucruri și să le spui: ‘Domnul va răcni*Is. 42:13.Ioel 3:16.Amos 1:2. de sus; din Locașul Lui*Ps. 11:4. Cap. 17:12. cel Sfânt, va face să-I răsune glasul; va răcni împotriva locului*1 Împ. 9:3.Ps. 132:14. locuinței Lui; va striga*Is. 16:9. Cap. 48:33., precum cei ce calcă în teasc, împotriva tuturor locuitorilor pământului. 31 Vuietul ajunge până la marginea pământului, căci Domnul Se ceartă cu*Osea 4:1.Mica 6:2. neamurile, intră*Is. 66:16.Ioel 3:2. la judecată împotriva oricărei făpturi și dă pe cei răi pradă sabiei’", zice Domnul. 32 Așa vorbește Domnul oștirilor: „Iată, nenorocirea merge din popor în popor și o mare furtună*Cap. 23:19;30:23. se ridică de la marginile pământului. 33 Cei pe care-i va ucide*Is. 66:16. Domnul în ziua aceea vor fi întinși de la un capăt al pământului până la celălalt; nu vor fi nici jeliți*Cap. 16:4,6., nici adunați*Ps. 79:3. Cap. 8:2.Apoc. 11:9., nici îngropați, ci vor fi un gunoi de pământ. 34 Gemeți*Cap. 4:8;6:26., păstori, și strigați! Tăvăliți-vă în cenușă, povățuitori ai turmelor! Căci au venit zilele înjunghierii voastre. Vă voi zdrobi, și veți cădea la pământ ca un vas de preț. 35 Nu mai este niciun loc de adăpost pentru păstori! Nu mai este nicio scăpare pentru povățuitorii turmelor! 36 Se aud strigătele păstorilor și gemetele povățuitorilor turmelor, căci Domnul le pustiește locul de pășune 37 și colibele cele liniștite sunt nimicite de mânia aprinsă a Domnului. 38 El Și-a părăsit locuința*Ps. 76:2., ca un pui de leu vizuina; așa că țara le este prefăcută în pustie de urgia nimicitorului și de mânia lui aprinsă."
