1 Sargão, o rei da Assíria, enviou o seu exército, comandado pelo comandante-em-chefe, para atacar a cidade de Asdode, e ele a conquistou.

2 Três anos antes disso, o Senhor Deus tinha dito a Isaías, filho de Amoz:

— Tire a roupa de pano grosseiro que você está vestindo e tire também as sandálias.

Isaías tinha obedecido e havia andado meio nu e descalço.

3 Depois da conquista de Asdode, o Senhor disse:

— Durante três anos, o meu servo Isaías andou meio nu e descalço como um sinal e aviso daquilo que vai acontecer com o Egito e com a Etiópia. 4 O rei da Assíria levará como prisioneiros os egípcios e os etíopes, tanto os moços como os velhos. Eles irão meio nus e descalços, com as nádegas descobertas, trazendo assim vergonha para o Egito. 5 Então aqueles que confiavam na Etiópia e que se gabavam do Egito ficarão desiludidos e decepcionados. 6 E os povos que vivem no litoral do mar Mediterrâneo dirão: "Vejam só o que aconteceu com aqueles em quem nós confiávamos e a quem fomos pedir proteção contra o rei da Assíria! E, agora, como é que nós vamos escapar?"

1 In the year that Tartan entered Ashdod, when Sargon king of Assyria, sent him,and he fought against Ashdod and captured it,

2 At that time, spake Yahweh, through Isaiah son of Amoz, saying, Go, and loose the sackcloth from off thy loins, And thy sandal, draw thou off from thy foot,And he did so, walking disrobed and barefoot.

3 Then said Yahweh,As my servant Isaiah, hath walked, disrobed and barefoot three years as a sign and a wonder against Egypt and against Ethiopia,

4 So, shall the king of Assyria lead away the captives of Egypt and the exiles of Ethiopia young and old disrobed and barefoot, with their persons behind Uncovered the shame of Egypt.

5 Thus shall they be confounded and turn pale,For Ethiopia, their expectation, and For Egypt their boast;

6 And the inhabitant of this shore, shall exclaim, in that day, Lo! such, is our expectation, whereunto we fled for help, that we might be delivered from the presence of the king of Assyria! How then shall, we, escape?
