1 And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said to him, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan. 2 Arise, go to Padan-Aram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother’s father, and take a wife thence of the daughters of Laban thy mother’s brother. 3 And the Almighty ·God*GodHebrew: El bless thee, and make thee fruitful and multiply thee, that thou mayest become a company of peoples. 4 And may he give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee and to thy seed with thee, in order that thou mayest possess the land of thy sojourning, which God*GodHebrew: Elohim gave to Abraham! 5 And Isaac sent away Jacob; and he went to Padan-Aram, to Laban the son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebecca, Jacob’s and Esau’s mother.

6 And Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Padan-Aram, to take a wife thence, blessing him, and giving him a charge saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan; 7 and that Jacob had obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Padan-Aram. 8 And Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan were evil in the sight of Isaac his father. 9 And Esau went to Ishmael, and took, besides the wives that he had, Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebaioth, to be his wife.

10 And Jacob went out from Beer-sheba, and went towards Haran. 11 And he lighted on a certain place, and lodged there, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of the place, and made it his pillow, and lay down in that place. 12 And he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to the heavens. And behold, angels of God*GodHebrew: Elohim ascended and descended upon it. 13 And behold, Jehovah stood above it. And he said, I am Jehovah, the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of Abraham, thy father, and the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of Isaac: the land on which thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed. 14 And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south; and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. 15 And behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places to which thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee until I have done what I have spoken to thee of.

16 And Jacob awoke from his sleep, and said, Surely Jehovah is in this place, and I knew it not. 17 And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God*GodHebrew: Elohim and this is the gate of heaven. 18 And Jacob rose early in the morning, and took the stone that he had made his pillow, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil on the top of it. 19 And he called the name of that place Beth-el; but the name of that city was Luz at the first. 20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God*GodHebrew: Elohim will be with me, and keep me on this road that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and a garment to put on, 21 and I come again to my father’s house in peace — then shall Jehovah be my God*GodHebrew: Elohim22 And this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God’s*GodHebrew: Elohim house; and of all that thou wilt give me I will without fail give the tenth to thee.

1 Isaac a chemat pe Iacov, l-a binecuvântat*Cap. 27:33. și i-a dat porunca aceasta: „Să*Cap. 24:3. nu-ți iei nevastă dintre fetele lui Canaan. 2 Scoală-te*Osea 12:12., du-te la Padan-Aram*Cap. 25:20., în casa lui Betuel*Cap. 22:23., tatăl mamei tale, și ia-ți de acolo o nevastă dintre fetele lui Laban*Cap. 24:29., fratele mamei tale. 3 Dumnezeul*Cap. 17:1,6. cel Atotputernic*28:3 Evreiește: El-Șadai. să te binecuvânteze, să te facă să crești și să te înmulțești, ca să ajungi o ceată de noroade! 4 Să-ți dea binecuvântarea*Cap. 12:2. lui Avraam, ție și seminței tale cu tine, ca să stăpânești țara în care locuiești*Cap. 17:8. ca străin și pe care a dat-o lui Avraam." 5 Și Isaac a trimis pe Iacov, care s-a dus la Padan-Aram, la Laban, fiul lui Betuel, Arameul, fratele Rebecăi, mama lui Iacov și a lui Esau.

6 Esau a văzut că Isaac binecuvântase pe Iacov și-l trimisese la Padan-Aram, ca să-și ia nevastă de acolo, și că, binecuvântându-l, îi dăduse porunca aceasta: „Să nu-ți iei nevastă dintre fetele lui Canaan." 7 A văzut că Iacov ascultase de tatăl său și de mama sa și plecase la Padan-Aram. 8 Esau a înțeles*Cap. 24:3;26:35. astfel că fetele lui Canaan nu-i plăceau tatălui său Isaac. 9 Și Esau s-a dus la Ismael. El a mai luat de nevastă, pe lângă nevestele pe care le avea, pe Mahalat*Cap. 36:3., fata lui Ismael, fiul lui Avraam, și sora lui Nebaiot*Cap. 25:13..

10 Iacov a plecat din Beer-Șeba*Osea 12:12. și și-a luat drumul spre Haran*Fapte 7:2.. 11 A ajuns într-un loc unde a rămas peste noapte, căci asfințise soarele. A luat o piatră de acolo, a pus-o căpătâi și s-a culcat în locul acela. 12 Și a visat*Cap. 41:1.Iov 33:15. o scară rezemată de pământ, al cărei vârf ajungea până la cer. Îngerii*Ioan 1:51.Evr. 1:14. lui Dumnezeu se suiau și se coborau pe scara aceea. 13 Și Domnul*Cap. 35:1;48:3. stătea deasupra*28:13 Sau: lângă el. ei și zicea: „Eu*Cap. 26:24. sunt Domnul Dumnezeul tatălui tău Avraam și Dumnezeul lui Isaac. Pământul*Cap. 13:15;35:12. pe care ești culcat ți-l voi da ție și seminței tale. 14 Sămânța ta va fi ca pulberea*Cap. 13:16. pământului; te vei întinde*Cap. 13:14.Deut. 12:20. la apus și la răsărit, la miazănoapte și la miazăzi și toate familiile pământului vor fi binecuvântate în tine și în sămânța ta. 15 Iată, Eu*Cap. 12:3;18:18;22:18;26:4;28. sunt cu tine; te voi păzi*Vers. 20,21. Cap. 26:24;31:3. pretutindeni pe unde vei merge și te voi aduce*Cap. 48:16.Ps. 121:5,7,8. înapoi în țara aceasta, căci nu te voi părăsi*Cap. 35:6. până*Deut. 31:6,8.Ios. 1:5.1 Împ. 8:57.Evr. 13:5. nu voi împlini ce-ți spun." 16 Iacov s-a trezit din somn și a zis: „Cu adevărat, Domnul este în locul*Num. 23:19. acesta, și eu n-am știut." 17 I-a fost frică și a zis: „Cât de înfricoșat este locul acesta! Aici este casa lui Dumnezeu, aici este poarta cerurilor!" 18 Și Iacov s-a sculat dis-de-dimineață, a luat piatra pe care o pusese căpătâi, a pus-o ca stâlp*Exod 3:5.Ios. 5:15. de aducere aminte și a turnat*Cap. 31:13,45;35:14. untdelemn pe vârful ei. 19 A dat locului*Lev. 8:10-12.Num. 7:1. acestuia numele Betel*28:19 Adică, tălmăcit: Casa lui Dumnezeu., dar mai înainte cetatea se chema Luz. 20 Iacov*Jud. 1:23,26.Osea 4:15. a făcut o juruință și a zis: „Dacă*Cap. 31:13.Jud. 11:30.2 Sam. 15:8. va fi Dumnezeu cu mine și mă va păzi în timpul călătoriei pe care o fac, dacă-mi va da pâine*Vers. 15. să mănânc și haine să mă îmbrac 21 și dacă mă voi întoarce*1 Tim. 6:8. în pace în casa tatălui meu, atunci*Jud. 11:31.2 Sam. 19:24,30. Domnul va fi Dumnezeul meu; 22 piatra aceasta pe care am pus-o ca stâlp de aducere aminte va fi casa lui Dumnezeu*Deut. 26:17.2 Sam. 15:8.2 Împ. 5:17. și Îți voi da a zecea parte din tot*Cap. 35:7,14.Lev. 27:30. ce-mi vei da."
