1 And Jehovah visited Sarah as he had said, and Jehovah did to Sarah as he had spoken. 2 And Sarah conceived, and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the appointed time of which God*GodHebrew: Elohim had spoken to him. 3 And Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac. 4 And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac, being eight days old, as God*GodHebrew: Elohim had commanded him. 5 And Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him. 6 And Sarah said, God*GodHebrew: Elohim has made me laugh: all that hear will laugh with me. 7 And she said, Who would have said to Abraham, Sarah will suckle children? For I have borne him a son in his old age. 8 And the child grew, and was weaned. And Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned.

9 And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, mocking. 10 And she said to Abraham, Cast out this handmaid and her son; for the son of this handmaid shall not inherit with my son — with Isaac. 11 And the thing was very grievous in Abraham’s sight because of his son. 12 And God*GodHebrew: Elohim said to Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad and because of thy handmaid: in all that Sarah hath said to thee hearken to her voice, for in Isaac shall a seed be called to thee. 13 But also the son of the handmaid will I make a nation, because he is thy seed.

14 And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread, and a flask of water, and gave it to Hagar, putting it on her shoulder — and the child, and sent her away. And she departed, and wandered about in the wilderness of Beer-sheba. 15 And the water was exhausted from the flask; and she cast the child under one of the shrubs, 16 and she went and sat down over against him, a bow-shot off; for she said, Let me not behold the death of the child. And she sat over against him, and lifted up her voice and wept. 17 And God*GodHebrew: Elohim heard the voice of the lad. And the Angel of God*GodHebrew: Elohim called to Hagar from the heavens, and said to her, What aileth thee, Hagar? Fear not; for God*GodHebrew: Elohim hath heard the voice of the lad there, where he is. 18 Arise, take the lad, and hold him in thy hand; for I will make of him a great nation. 19 And God*GodHebrew: Elohim opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went and filled the flask with water, and gave the lad drink. 20 And God*GodHebrew: Elohim was with the lad, and he grew; and he dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer. 21 And he dwelt in the wilderness of Paran. And his mother took him a wife out of the land of Egypt.

22 And it came to pass at that time that Abimelech, and Phichol the captain of his host, spoke to Abraham, saying, God*GodHebrew: Elohim is with thee in all that thou doest. 23 And now swear to me here by God*GodHebrew: Elohim that thou wilt not deal deceitfully with me, nor with my son, nor with my grandson. According to the kindness that I have done to thee, thou shalt do to me, and to the land in which thou sojournest. 24 And Abraham said, I will swear. 25 And Abraham reproved Abimelech because of a well of water that Abimelech’s servants had violently taken away. 26 And Abimelech said, I do not know who has done this, neither hast thou told me of it, neither have I heard of it but to-day. 27 And Abraham took sheep and oxen, and gave them to Abimelech; and both of them made a covenant. 28 And Abraham set seven ewe-lambs of the flock by themselves. 29 And Abimelech said to Abraham, What mean these seven ewe-lambs, these which thou hast set by themselves? 30 And he said, That thou take the seven ewe-lambs of my hand, that they may be a witness to me that I have dug this well. 31 Therefore he called that place Beer-sheba, because there they had sworn, both of them. 32 And they made a covenant at Beer-sheba. And Abimelech rose up, and Phichol the captain of his host, and returned into the land of the Philistines.

33 And Abraham planted a tamarisk in Beer-sheba, and called there on the name of Jehovah, the Eternal ·God*GodHebrew: El34 And Abraham sojourned in the Philistines' land many days.

1 Domnul Și-a adus aminte*1 Sam. 2:21. de cele ce spusese Sarei și Domnul a împlinit față de Sara ce*Cap. 17:19;18:10,14.Gal. 4:23,28. făgăduise. 2 Sara*Fapte 7:8.Gal. 4:22.Evr. 11:11. a rămas însărcinată și a născut lui Avraam un fiu la bătrânețe, la vremea*Cap. 17:21. hotărâtă, despre care-i vorbise Dumnezeu. 3 Avraam a pus fiului său nou-născut, pe care i-l născuse Sara, numele Isaac*Cap. 17:19.. 4 Avraam a tăiat împrejur*Fapte 7:8. pe fiul său Isaac la vârsta de opt zile, cum*Cap. 17:10,12. îi poruncise Dumnezeu. 5 Avraam*Cap. 17:1,17. era în vârstă de o sută de ani la nașterea fiului său Isaac. 6 Și Sara a zis: „Dumnezeu*Ps. 126:2.Is. 54:1.Gal. 4:27.Luca 1:58. m-a făcut de râs: oricine va auzi va râde de mine." 7 Și a adăugat: „Cine s-ar fi gândit să spună lui Avraam că Sara va da țâță la copii? Și totuși*Cap. 18:11,12. i-am născut un fiu la bătrânețe!"

8 Copilul s-a făcut mare și a fost înțărcat. Avraam a făcut un ospăț mare în ziua când a fost înțărcat Isaac. 9 Sara a văzut râzând*Cap. 16:1. pe fiul pe care-l*Cap. 16:15. născuse lui Avraam egipteanca*Gal. 4:29. Agar. 10 Și a zis lui Avraam: „Izgonește*Gal. 4:30. Cap. 25:6; 36:6,7. pe roaba aceasta și pe fiul ei, căci fiul roabei acesteia nu va moșteni împreună cu fiul meu, cu Isaac." 11 Cuvintele acestea n-au plăcut deloc lui Avraam, din pricina*Cap. 17:18. fiului său. 12 Dar Dumnezeu a zis lui Avraam: „Să nu te mâhnești de cuvintele acestea, din pricina copilului și din pricina roabei tale; fă Sarei tot ce-ți cere, căci numai din Isaac*Rom. 9:7,8.Evr. 11:18. va ieși o sămânță care va purta cu adevărat numele tău. 13 Dar și pe fiul roabei tale îl voi face un neam*Vers. 18. Cap. 16:10;17:20., căci este sămânța ta." 14 A doua zi, Avraam s-a sculat de dimineață, a luat pâine și un burduf cu apă, pe care i l-a dat Agarei și i l-a pus pe umăr; i-a dat și copilul și i-a dat drumul*Ioan 8:35.. Ea a plecat și a rătăcit prin pustia Beer-Șeba. 15 Când s-a isprăvit apa din burduf, a aruncat copilul sub un tufiș 16 și s-a dus de a șezut în fața lui la o mică depărtare de el, ca la o aruncătură de arc, căci zicea ea: „Să nu văd moartea copilului!" A șezut dar în fața lui la o parte, a ridicat glasul și a început să plângă. 17 Dumnezeu*Exod 3:7. a auzit glasul copilului, și Îngerul lui Dumnezeu a strigat din cer pe Agar și i-a zis: „Ce ai tu, Agar? Nu te teme, căci Dumnezeu a auzit glasul copilului în locul unde este. 18 Scoală-te, ia copilul și ține-l de mână, căci voi face*Vers. 13. din el un neam mare." 19 Și Dumnezeu*Num. 22:31.2 Împ. 6:17,18,20.Luca 24:16,31. i-a deschis ochii și ea a văzut un izvor de apă; s-a dus de a umplut burduful cu apă și a dat copilului să bea. 20 Dumnezeu*Cap. 28:15;39:2,3,21. a fost cu copilul, care a crescut, a locuit în pustie și*Cap. 16:12. a ajuns vânător cu arcul. 21 A locuit în pustiul Paran și mama sa i-a luat o nevastă*Cap. 24:4. din țara Egiptului.

22 În vremea aceea, Abimelec*Cap. 20:2;26:26., însoțit de Picol, căpetenia oștirii lui, a vorbit astfel lui Avraam: „Dumnezeu*Cap. 26:28. este cu tine în tot ce faci. 23 Jură-mi*Ios. 2:12.1 Sam. 24:21. acum, aici, pe Numele lui Dumnezeu, că nu mă vei înșela niciodată, nici pe mine, nici pe copiii mei, nici pe nepoții mei, și că vei avea față de mine și față de țara în care locuiești ca străin aceeași bunăvoință pe care o am eu față de tine." 24 Avraam a zis: „Jur!" 25 Dar Avraam a băgat vină lui Abimelec pentru o fântână de apă, pe care puseseră mâna cu sila*Cap. 26:15,18,20-22. robii lui Abimelec. 26 Abimelec a răspuns: „Nu știu cine a făcut lucrul acesta; nici tu nu mi-ai dat de știre și nici eu nu aflu decât azi." 27 Și Avraam a luat oi și boi, pe care i-a dat lui Abimelec, și au făcut legământ*Cap. 26:31. amândoi. 28 Avraam a pus deoparte șapte mielușele din turmă. 29 Și Abimelec a zis lui Avraam: „Ce sunt*Cap. 33:8. aceste șapte mielușele pe care le-ai pus deoparte?" 30 El a răspuns: „Trebuie să primești din mâna mea aceste șapte mielușele, pentru ca să-mi slujească de mărturie*Cap. 31:48,52. că am săpat fântâna aceasta." 31 Iată de ce locul acela se numește*Cap. 26:33. Beer-Șeba*21:31 Adică: Fântâna jurământului., căci acolo și-au jurat ei credință unul altuia. 32 Astfel au făcut ei legământ la Beer-Șeba. După aceea, Abimelec s-a sculat împreună cu Picol, căpetenia oștirii sale, și s-au întors în țara filistenilor. 33 Avraam a sădit un tamarisc la Beer-Șeba și a chemat*Cap. 4:26. acolo Numele Domnului Dumnezeului celui veșnic*Deut. 33:27.Is. 40:28.Rom. 16:26.1 Tim. 1:17.. 34 Avraam a locuit multă vreme ca străin în țara filistenilor.
