1 And it came to pass at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed, and behold, he stood by the river. 2 And behold, there came up out of the river seven kine, fine-looking and fat-fleshed, and they fed in the reed-grass. 3 And behold, seven other kine came up after them out of the river, bad-looking and lean-fleshed, and stood by the kine on the bank of the river. 4 And the kine that were bad-looking and lean-fleshed ate up the seven kine that were fine-looking and fat. And Pharaoh awoke. 5 And he slept and dreamed the second time; and behold, seven ears of corn grew up on one stalk, fat and good. 6 And behold, seven ears, thin and parched with the east wind, sprung up after them. 7 And the thin ears devoured the seven fat and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke; and behold, it was a dream. 8 And it came to pass in the morning, that his spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all the scribes of Egypt, and all the sages who were therein, and Pharaoh told them his dream; but there was none to interpret them to Pharaoh.

9 Then spoke the chief of the cup-bearers to Pharaoh, saying, I remember mine offences this day. 10 Pharaoh was wroth with his bondmen, and put me in custody into the captain of the life-guard’s house, me and the chief of the bakers. 11 And we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he; we dreamed each according to the interpretation of his dream. 12 And there was there with us a Hebrew youth, a bondman of the captain of the life-guard, to whom we told them, and he interpreted to us our dreams; to each he interpreted according to his dream. 13 And it came to pass, just as he interpreted to us, so it came about: me has he restored to my office, and him he hanged. 14 Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph; and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon. And he shaved himself, and changed his clothes, and came in to Pharaoh. 15 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, I have dreamt a dream, and there is none to interpret it. And I have heard say of thee, thou understandest a dream to interpret it. 16 And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God*GodHebrew: Elohim will give Pharaoh an answer of peace.

17 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, In my dream, behold, I stood on the bank of the river. 18 And behold, there came up out of the river seven kine, fat-fleshed and of fine form, and they fed in the reed-grass. 19 And behold, seven other kine came up after them, poor, and very ill-formed, and lean-fleshed — such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for badness. 20 And the lean and bad kine ate up the seven first fat kine; 21 and they came into their belly, and it could not be known that they had come into their belly; and their look was bad, as at the beginning. And I awoke. 22 And I saw in my dream, and behold, seven ears came up on one stalk, full and good. 23 And behold, seven ears, withered, thin, parched with the east wind, sprung up after them; 24 and the thin ears devoured the seven good ears. And I told it to the scribes; but there was none to make it known to me. 25 And Joseph said to Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one. What God*GodHebrew: Elohim will do he has made known to Pharaoh. 26 The seven fine kine are seven years; and the seven good ears are seven years: the dream is one. 27 And the seven lean and bad kine that came up after them are seven years; and the seven empty ears, parched with the east wind, will be seven years of famine. 28 This is the word which I have spoken to Pharaoh: what God*GodHebrew: Elohim is about to do he has let Pharaoh see. 29 Behold, there come seven years of great plenty throughout the land of Egypt. 30 And there will arise after them seven years of famine; and all the plenty will be forgotten in the land of Egypt, and the famine will waste away the land. 31 And the plenty will not be known afterwards in the land by reason of that famine; for it will be very grievous. 32 And as regards the double repetition of the dream to Pharaoh, it is that the thing is established by God*GodHebrew: Elohim and God*GodHebrew: Elohim will hasten to do it.

33 And now let Pharaoh look himself out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt. 34 Let Pharaoh do this: let him appoint overseers over the land, and take the fifth part of the land of Egypt during the seven years of plenty, 35 and let them gather all the food of these coming good years, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, for food in the cities, and keep it. 36 And let the food be as store for the land for the seven years of famine, which will be in the land of Egypt, that the land perish not through the famine. 37 And the word was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his bondmen. 38 And Pharaoh said to his bondmen, Shall we find one as this, a man in whom the Spirit of God*GodHebrew: Elohim is? 39 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, Since God*GodHebrew: Elohim has made all this known to thee, there is none so discreet and wise as thou. 40 Thou shalt be over my house, and according to thy commandment shall all my people regulate themselves; only concerning the throne will I be greater than thou. 41 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt. 42 And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it on Joseph’s hand, and arrayed him in clothes of byssus, and put a gold chain on his neck. 43 And he caused him to ride in the second chariot that he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee! and he set him over all the land of Egypt. 44 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, I am Pharaoh; and without thee shall no man lift up his hand or his foot in all the land of Egypt. 45 And Pharaoh called Joseph’s name Zaphnath-paaneah, and gave him as wife Asnath the daughter of Potipherah the priest in On. And Joseph went out over the land of Egypt.

46 And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from Pharaoh, and passed through the whole land of Egypt. 47 And in the seven years of plenty the land brought forth by handfuls. 48 And he gathered up all the food of the seven years that was in the land of Egypt, and put the food in the cities; the food of the fields of the city, which were round about it, he laid up in it. 49 And Joseph laid up corn as sand of the sea exceeding much, until they left off numbering; for it was without number. 50 And to Joseph were born two sons before the year of famine came, whom Asnath the daughter of Potipherah the priest in On bore to him. 51 And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh — For God*GodHebrew: Elohim has made me forget all my toil, and all my father’s house. 52 And the name of the second he called Ephraim — For God*GodHebrew: Elohim has caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction. 53 And the seven years of plenty that were in the land of Egypt were ended; 54 and the seven years of the dearth began to come, according as Joseph had said. And there was dearth in all lands; but in all the land of Egypt there was bread. 55 And all the land of Egypt suffered from the dearth. And the people cried to Pharaoh for bread; and Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, Go to Joseph: what he says to you, that do. 56 And the famine was on all the earth. And Joseph opened every place in which there was provision, and sold grain to the Egyptians; and the famine was grievous in the land of Egypt. 57 And all countries came into Egypt to Joseph, to buy grain, because the famine was grievous on the whole earth.

I se părea că stătea lângă râu (Nil). 2 Și iată că șapte vaci frumoase la vedere și grase la trup s-au suit din râu și au început să pască prin mlaștini. 3 După ele s-au mai suit din râu alte șapte vaci, urâte la vedere și slabe la trup, și s-au așezat lângă ele, pe marginea râului. 4 Vacile urâte la vedere și slabe la trup au mâncat pe cele șapte vaci frumoase la vedere și grase la trup. Și Faraon s-a trezit. 5 A adormit din nou și a visat un al doilea vis. Se făcea că șapte spice de grâu grase și frumoase au crescut pe același pai. 6 Și după ele au răsărit alte șapte spice, slabe și arse de vântul de răsărit. 7 Spicele slabe au înghițit pe cele șapte spice grase și pline. Și Faraon s-a trezit. Iată visul. 8 Dimineața, Faraon s-a tulburat*Dan. 2:1;4:5,19. și a trimis să cheme pe toți magii*Exod 7:11,22.Is. 29:14.Dan. 1:20;2:2;4:7. și pe toți înțelepții*Mat. 2:1. Egiptului. Le-a istorisit visele lui. Dar nimeni n-a putut să le tălmăcească lui Faraon. 9 Atunci, mai-marele paharnicilor a luat cuvântul și a zis lui Faraon: „Mi-aduc aminte astăzi de greșeala mea. 10 Faraon se mâniase*Cap. 40:2,3. pe slujitorii lui și mă aruncase*Cap. 39:20. în temniță, în casa căpeteniei străjerilor, pe mine și pe mai-marele pitarilor. 11 Amândoi am*Cap. 40:5. visat câte un vis în aceeași noapte, și anume fiecare din noi a visat un vis care a primit o tălmăcire deosebită. 12 Era acolo cu noi un tânăr evreu, rob*Cap. 37:36. al căpeteniei străjerilor. I-am istorisit visele noastre, și el ni le-a tălmăcit*Cap. 40:12. și ne-a spus întocmai ce înseamnă visul fiecăruia. 13 Lucrurile s-au întâmplat întocmai după*Cap. 40:22. tălmăcirea pe care ne-o dăduse el. Pe mine, Faraon m-a pus iarăși în slujba mea, iar pe mai-marele pitarilor l-a spânzurat." 14 Faraon*Ps. 105:20. a trimis să cheme pe Iosif. L-au scos*Dan. 2:25. în grabă din temniță*1 Sam. 2:8.Ps. 113:7,8.. Iosif s-a ras, și-a schimbat hainele și s-a dus la Faraon. 15 Faraon a zis lui Iosif: „Am visat un vis. Nimeni nu l-a putut tălmăci și am*Vers. 12.Ps. 25:14.Dan. 5:16. aflat că tu tălmăcești un vis îndată după ce l-ai auzit." 16 Iosif a răspuns lui Faraon: „Nu eu*Dan. 2:30.Fapte 3:12.2 Cor. 3:5.! Dumnezeu*Cap. 40:8.Dan. 2:22,28,47;4:2. este Acela care va da un răspuns prielnic lui Faraon!" 17 Faraon a început să istorisească atunci lui Iosif: „În visul meu*Vers. 1., se făcea că stăteam pe malul râului. 18 Și deodată, șapte vaci grase la trup și frumoase la chip s-au suit din râu și au început să pască prin mlaștini. 19 După ele, s-au suit alte șapte vaci slabe, foarte urâte la chip și sfrijite: n-am mai văzut altele așa de urâte în toată țara Egiptului. 20 Vacile cele sfrijite și slabe au mâncat pe cele șapte vaci dintâi, care erau grase. 21 Le-au înghițit, fără să se poată cunoaște că intraseră în pântecele lor; ba încă înfățișarea lor era tot așa de urâtă ca mai înainte. Și m-am deșteptat. 22 Am mai văzut în vis șapte spice pline și frumoase, care creșteau pe același pai. 23 Și după ele au răsărit șapte spice goale, slabe, arse de vântul de răsărit. 24 Spicele slabe au înghițit pe cele șapte spice frumoase. Am spus aceste lucruri magilor*Vers. 8.Dan. 4:7., dar nimeni nu mi le-a putut tălmăci." 25 Iosif a zis lui Faraon: „Ce a visat Faraon înseamnă un singur lucru: Dumnezeu*Dan. 2:28,29,45.Apoc. 4:1. a arătat mai dinainte lui Faraon ce are să facă. 26 Cele șapte vaci frumoase înseamnă șapte ani și cele șapte spice frumoase înseamnă șapte ani: este un singur vis. 27 Cele șapte vaci sfrijite și urâte, care se suiau după cele dintâi, înseamnă șapte ani, și cele șapte spice goale, arse de vântul de răsărit, vor fi șapte ani*2 Împ. 8:1. de foamete. 28 Astfel, după cum am spus lui Faraon, Dumnezeu a arătat lui Faraon ce are*Vers. 25. să facă. 29 Iată, vor fi șapte*Vers. 47. ani de mare belșug în toată țara Egiptului. 30 După ei, vor veni*Vers. 54. șapte ani de foamete, așa că se va uita tot belșugul acesta în țara Egiptului, și foametea*Cap. 47:13. va topi țara. 31 Foametea aceasta care va urma va fi așa de mare că nu se va mai cunoaște belșugul în țară. 32 Cât privește faptul că Faraon a visat visul de două ori, înseamnă că lucrul este hotărât*Num. 23:19.Is. 46:10,11. din partea lui Dumnezeu și că Dumnezeu Se va grăbi să-l aducă la îndeplinire. 33 Acum, Faraon să aleagă un om priceput și înțelept și să-l pună în fruntea țării Egiptului. 34 Faraon să pună prefecți în țară, ca să ridice*Prov. 6:6-8. o cincime din roadele Egiptului în timpul celor șapte ani de belșug. 35 Să se strângă*Vers. 48. toate bucatele din acești ani buni care au să vină; să se facă, la îndemâna lui Faraon, grămezi de grâu, provizii în cetăți, și să le păzească. 36 Bucatele acestea vor fi provizia țării pentru cei șapte ani de foamete care vor veni în țara Egiptului, pentru ca țara să nu fie prăpădită*Cap. 47:15,19. de foamete."

37 Cuvintele*Ps. 105:19.Fapte 7:10. acestea au plăcut lui Faraon și tuturor slujitorilor lui. 38 Și Faraon a zis slujitorilor săi: „Am putea noi oare să găsim un om ca acesta, care*Num. 27:18.Iov 32:8.Prov. 2:6.Dan. 4:8,18;5:11,14;6:3. să aibă în el Duhul lui Dumnezeu?" 39 Și Faraon a zis lui Iosif: „Fiindcă Dumnezeu ți-a făcut cunoscute toate aceste lucruri, nu este nimeni care să fie atât de priceput și atât de înțelept ca tine. 40 Te pun*Ps. 105:21,22.Fapte 7:10. mai-mare peste casa mea și tot poporul meu va asculta de poruncile tale. Numai scaunul meu de domnie mă va ridica mai presus de tine." 41 Faraon a zis lui Iosif: „Uite, îți dau*Dan. 6:3. stăpânire peste toată țara Egiptului." 42 Faraon și-a scos*Est. 3:10;8:2,8. inelul din deget și l-a pus în degetul lui Iosif; l-a îmbrăcat*Est. 8:15. cu haine de in subțire și i-a pus*Dan. 5:7,29. un lanț de aur la gât. 43 L-a suit în carul care venea după al lui și strigau*Est. 6:9. Cap. 42:6; 45:8,26.Fapte 7:10. înaintea lui: „În genunchi!" Astfel i-a dat Faraon stăpânire peste toată țara Egiptului. 44 Și a mai zis lui Iosif: „Eu sunt Faraon! Dar fără tine nimeni nu va ridica mâna, nici piciorul, în toată țara Egiptului." 45 Faraon a pus lui Iosif numele: Țafnat-Paeneah (Descoperitor de taine) și i-a dat de nevastă pe Asnat, fata lui Poti-Fera, preotul lui On. Și Iosif a pornit să cerceteze țara Egiptului. 46 Iosif era în vârstă de treizeci de ani când s-a înfățișat*1 Sam. 16:21.1 Împ. 12:6,8.Dan. 1:19. înaintea lui Faraon, împăratul Egiptului, și a plecat de la Faraon și a străbătut toată țara Egiptului. 47 În timpul celor șapte ani de rod, pământul a dat bucate din belșug. 48 Iosif a strâns toate bucatele din acești șapte ani de belșug în țara Egiptului. A făcut provizii în cetăți, punând în fiecare cetate bucatele de pe câmpul de primprejur. 49 Iosif a strâns grâu ca nisipul*Cap. 22:17.Jud. 7:12.1 Sam. 13:5.Ps. 78:27. mării, atât de mult, că au încetat să-l mai măsoare, pentru că era fără măsură.

50 Înaintea anilor de foamete, i s-au născut lui Iosif*Cap. 46:20;48:5. doi fii, pe care i-a născut Asnat, fata lui Poti-Fera, preotul lui On. 51 Iosif a pus întâiului născut numele Manase (Uitare); „căci", a zis el, „Dumnezeu m-a făcut să uit toate necazurile mele și toată casa tatălui meu". 52 Și celui de al doilea i-a pus numele Efraim (Rodire); „căci", a zis el, „Dumnezeu m-a făcut*Cap. 49:22. roditor în țara întristării mele". 53 Cei șapte ani de belșug care au fost în țara Egiptului au trecut 54 și au început*Ps. 105:16.Fapte 7:11. să vină cei șapte ani de foamete, așa cum*Vers. 30. vestise Iosif. În toate țările era foamete, dar în toată țara Egiptului era pâine. 55 Când a flămânzit, în sfârșit, toată țara Egiptului, poporul a strigat la Faraon să-i dea pâine. Faraon a spus tuturor egiptenilor: „Duceți-vă la Iosif și faceți ce vă va spune el." 56 Foametea bântuia în toată țara. Iosif a deschis toate locurile cu provizii și a vândut*Cap. 42:6;47:14,24. grâu egiptenilor. Foametea creștea din ce în ce mai mult în țara Egiptului. 57 Și din toate țările*Deut. 9:28. venea lumea în Egipt ca să cumpere grâu de la Iosif, căci în toate țările era foamete mare.
