1 And Abraham took another wife named Keturah. 2 And she bore him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah. 3 And Jokshan begot Sheba and Dedan; and the sons of Dedan were the Asshurim, and the Letushim, and the Leummim. 4 And the sons of Midian were Ephah, and Epher, and Enoch, and Abida, and Eldaah. All these were sons of Keturah. 5 And Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac. 6 And to the sons of the concubines that Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts, and, while he yet lived, sent them away from Isaac his son, eastward to the east country. 7 And these are the days of the years of Abraham’s life which he lived: a hundred and seventy-five years. 8 And Abraham expired and died in a good old age, old and full of days; and was gathered to his peoples. 9 And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, which was opposite to Mamre — 10 the field that Abraham had purchased of the sons of Heth: there was Abraham buried, and Sarah his wife.

11 And it came to pass after the death of Abraham, that God*GodHebrew: Elohim blessed his son Isaac. And Isaac dwelt at Beer-lahai-roi. 12 And these are the generations of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s bondwoman, bore to Abraham. 13 And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael by their names according to their generations: Nebaioth, the firstborn of Ishmael; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam, 14 and Mishma, and Dumah, and Massa, 15 Hadad and Tema, Jetur, Naphish and Kedmah. 16 These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, in their hamlets and their encampments — twelve princes of their peoples. 17 And these are the years of the life of Ishmael: a hundred and thirty-seven years; and he expired and died, and was gathered to his peoples. 18 And they dwelt from Havilah to Shur, which is opposite to Egypt, as one goes towards Assyria. He settled before the face of all his brethren.

19 And these are the generations of Isaac, Abraham’s son. Abraham begot Isaac. 20 And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebecca as wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padan-Aram, the sister of Laban the Syrian. 21 And Isaac entreated Jehovah for his wife, because she was barren; and Jehovah was entreated of him, and Rebecca his wife conceived. 22 And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to inquire of Jehovah. 23 And Jehovah said to her, Two nations are in thy womb, And two peoples shall be separated from thy bowels; And one people shall be stronger than the other people, And the elder shall serve the younger. 24 And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb. 25 And the first came out red — all over like a hairy garment; and they called his name Esau. 26 And after that came his brother out; and his hand took hold of Esau’s heel; and his name was called Jacob. And Isaac was sixty years old when they were born. 27 And the boys grew, and Esau became a man skilled in hunting, a man of the field; and Jacob was a homely man, dwelling in tents. 28 And Isaac loved Esau, because venison was to his taste; and Rebecca loved Jacob.

29 And Jacob had cooked a dish; and Esau came from the field, and he was faint. 30 And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with the red — the red thing there, for I am faint. Therefore was his name called Edom. 31 And Jacob said, Sell me now thy birthright. 32 And Esau said, Behold, I am going to die, and of what use can the birthright be to me? 33 And Jacob said, Swear unto me now. And he swore unto him, and sold his birthright to Jacob. 34 And Jacob gave Esau bread and the dish of lentils; and he ate and drank, and rose up and went away. Thus Esau despised the birthright.

1 Avraam a mai luat o nevastă, numită Chetura. 2 Ea*1 Cron. 1:32. i-a născut pe Zimran, pe Iocșan, pe Medan, pe Madian, pe Ișbac și Șuah. 3 Iocșan a născut pe Seba și pe Dedan. Fiii lui Dedan au fost așurimii, letușimii și leumimii. 4 Fiii lui Madian au fost: Efa, Efer, Enoh, Abida și Eldaa. Toți aceștia sunt fiii Cheturei. 5 Avraam*Cap. 24:36. a dat lui Isaac toate averile sale. 6 Dar a dat daruri fiilor țiitoarelor sale și, pe când era încă în viață, i-a îndepărtat*Cap. 21:14. de lângă fiul său Isaac înspre*Jud. 6:3. răsărit, în Țara Răsăritului. 7 Iată zilele anilor vieții lui Avraam: el a trăit o sută șaptezeci și cinci de ani. 8 Avraam și-a dat duhul și a murit*Cap. 15:15;49:29. după o bătrânețe fericită, înaintat în vârstă și sătul de zile, și a fost adăugat*Cap. 35:29;49:33. la poporul său. 9 Isaac și Ismael, fiii*Cap. 35:29;50:13. săi, l-au îngropat în peștera Macpela, în ogorul lui Efron, fiul lui Țohar, Hetitul, care este față în față cu Mamre. 10 Acesta este ogorul*Cap. 23:16. pe care-l cumpărase Avraam de la fiii lui Het. Acolo*Cap. 49:31. au fost îngropați Avraam și nevastă-sa Sara. 11 După moartea lui Avraam, Dumnezeu a binecuvântat pe fiul său Isaac. El locuia lângă fântâna*Cap. 16:14;24:62. Lahai-Roi.

12 Iată spița neamului lui Ismael, fiul lui Avraam, pe care-l*Cap. 16:15. născuse lui Avraam egipteanca Agar, roaba Sarei. 13 Iată*1 Cron. 1:29. numele fiilor lui Ismael, după numele lor, după neamurile lor: Nebaiot, întâiul născut al lui Ismael, Chedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, 14 Mișma, Duma, Masa, 15 Hadad, Tema, Ietur, Nafiș și Chedma. 16 Aceștia sunt fiii lui Ismael; acestea sunt numele lor, după satele și taberele lor. Ei au fost cei doisprezece voievozi*Cap. 17:20., după neamurile lor. 17 Și iată anii vieții lui Ismael: o sută treizeci și șapte de ani. El și-a dat*Vers. 8. duhul și a murit și a fost adăugat la poporul său. 18 Fiii lui au locuit*1 Sam. 15:7. de la Havila până la Șur, care este în fața Egiptului, cum mergi spre Asiria. El s-a așezat în fața*Cap. 16:12. tuturor fraților lui.

19 Iată spița neamului lui Isaac, fiul lui Avraam.

Avraam*Mat. 1:2. a născut pe Isaac.

20 Isaac era în vârstă de patruzeci de ani când a luat de nevastă pe Rebeca, fata*Cap. 22:23. lui Betuel, Arameul din Padan-Aram*25:20 Adică: Mesopotamia., și sora*Cap. 24:29. lui Laban, Arameul. 21 Isaac s-a rugat Domnului pentru nevastă-sa, căci era stearpă, și Domnul*1 Cron. 5:20.2 Cron. 33:13.Ezra 8:23. l-a ascultat: nevastă-sa Rebeca*Rom. 9:10. a rămas însărcinată. 22 Copiii se băteau în pântecele ei, și ea a zis: „Dacă-i așa, pentru ce mai sunt însărcinată?" S-a dus să întrebe*1 Sam. 9:9;10:22. pe Domnul.

23 Și Domnul i-a zis:

„Două neamuri*Cap. 17:16;24:60. sunt în pântecele tău,

Și două noroade se vor despărți la ieșirea din pântecele tău.

Unul*2 Sam. 8:14. din noroadele acestea va fi mai tare decât celălalt.

Și cel mai mare*Cap. 27:29.Mal. 1:3.Rom. 9:12. va sluji celui mai mic."

24 S-au împlinit zilele când avea să nască și iată că în pântecele ei erau doi gemeni. 25 Cel dintâi a ieșit roșu de*Cap. 27:11,16,23. tot, ca o manta de păr, și de aceea i-au pus numele Esau*25:25 Adică: Păros.. 26 Apoi a ieșit fratele său, care*Osea 12:3. ținea cu mâna de călcâi pe Esau, și de aceea i-au pus numele*Cap. 27:36. Iacov*25:26 Adică: Cel ce ține de călcâi.. Isaac era în vârstă de șaizeci de ani când s-au născut ei.

27 Băieții aceștia s-au făcut mari. Esau a ajuns un vânător*Cap. 27:3,5. îndemânatic, un om care își petrecea vremea mai mult pe câmp, dar Iacov era un om liniștit*Iov 1:1,8;2:3.Ps. 37:37., care stătea acasă*Evr. 11:9. în corturi. 28 Isaac iubea pe Esau, pentru că mânca*Cap. 27:19,25,31. din vânatul lui; Rebeca*Cap. 27:6. însă iubea mai mult pe Iacov. 29 Odată, pe când fierbea Iacov o ciorbă, Esau s-a întors de la câmp rupt de oboseală. 30 Și Esau a zis lui Iacov: „Dă-mi, te rog, să mănânc din ciorba aceasta roșiatică, fiindcă sunt rupt de oboseală." Pentru aceea s-a dat lui Esau numele Edom*25:30 Adică: Roșu.. 31 Iacov a zis: „Vinde-mi azi dreptul tău de întâi născut!" 32 Esau a răspuns: „Iată-mă, sunt pe moarte; la ce-mi slujește dreptul acesta de întâi născut?" 33 Și Iacov a zis: „Jură-mi întâi." Esau i-a jurat și astfel și-a vândut*Evr. 12:16. dreptul de întâi născut lui Iacov. 34 Atunci, Iacov a dat lui Esau pâine și ciorbă de linte. El a mâncat și a băut*Ecl. 8:15.Is. 22:13.1 Cor. 15:32.; apoi s-a sculat și a plecat. Astfel și-a nesocotit Esau dreptul de întâi născut.
