1 And it came to pass after these things, that the cup-bearer of the king of Egypt and the baker offended their lord the king of Egypt. 2 And Pharaoh was wroth with his two chamberlains — with the chief of the cup-bearers and with the chief of the bakers; 3 and he put them in custody into the house of the captain of the life-guard, into the tower-house, into the place where Joseph was imprisoned. 4 And the captain of the life-guard appointed Joseph to them, that he should attend on them. And they were several days in custody.

5 And they dreamed a dream, both of them in one night, each his dream, each according to the interpretation of his dream, the cup-bearer and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were imprisoned in the tower-house. 6 And Joseph came in to them in the morning, and looked on them, and behold, they were sad. 7 And he asked Pharaoh’s chamberlains that were with him in custody in his lord’s house, saying, Why are your faces so sad to-day? 8 And they said to him, We have dreamt a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said to them, Do not interpretations belong to God*GodHebrew: Elohim tell me your dreams, I pray you. 9 Then the chief of the cup-bearers told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me; 10 and in the vine were three branches; and it was as though it budded: its blossoms shot forth, its clusters ripened into grapes. 11 And Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand; and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand. 12 And Joseph said to him, This is the interpretation of it: the three branches are three days. 13 In yet three days will Pharaoh lift up thy head and restore thee to thy place, and thou shalt deliver Pharaoh’s cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his cup-bearer. 14 Only bear a remembrance with thee of me when it goes well with thee, and deal kindly, I pray thee, with me, and make mention of me to Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house; 15 for indeed I was stolen out of the land of the Hebrews, and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon. 16 And when the chief of the bakers saw that the interpretation was good, he said to Joseph, I also was in my dream, and behold, three baskets of white bread were on my head. 17 And in the uppermost basket there were all manner of victuals for Pharaoh that the baker makes, and the birds ate them out of the basket upon my head. 18 And Joseph answered and said, This is the interpretation of it: the three baskets are three days. 19 In yet three days will Pharaoh lift up thy head from off thee, and hang thee on a tree; and the birds will eat thy flesh from off thee.

20 And it came to pass the third day — Pharaoh’s birthday — that he made a feast to all his bondmen. And he lifted up the head of the chief of the cup-bearers, and the head of the chief of the bakers among his bondmen. 21 And he restored the chief of the cup-bearers to his office of cup-bearer again; and he gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand. 22 And he hanged the chief of the bakers, as Joseph had interpreted to them. 23 But the chief of the cup-bearers did not remember Joseph, and forgot him.

1 După câtăva vreme, s-a întâmplat că paharnicul*Neem. 1:11. și pitarul împăratului Egiptului au supărat pe stăpânul lor, împăratul Egiptului. 2 Faraon s-a mâniat*Prov. 16:14. pe cei doi dregători ai săi: pe mai-marele paharnicilor și pe mai-marele pitarilor. 3 Și*Cap. 39:20,23. i-a pus sub pază în casa căpeteniei străjerilor, în temniță, în locul unde fusese închis Iosif. 4 Căpetenia străjerilor i-a pus sub privegherea lui Iosif, care făcea de slujbă lângă ei, și au stat mai multă vreme în temniță. 5 Paharnicul și pitarul împăratului Egiptului, care erau închiși în temniță, au visat într-o noapte amândoi câte un vis, și anume fiecare câte un vis care putea să capete o tălmăcire deosebită. 6 Iosif, când a venit dimineața la ei, s-a uitat la ei și i-a văzut triști. 7 Atunci a întrebat pe dregătorii lui Faraon, care erau cu el în temnița stăpânului său, și le-a zis: „Pentru ce aveți o față așa de posomorâtă azi?" 8 Ei i-au răspuns: „Am*Cap. 41:15. visat un vis și nu este nimeni care să-l tălmăcească." Iosif le-a zis: „Tălmăcirile*Cap. 41:16.Dan. 2:11,28,47. sunt ale lui Dumnezeu. Istorisiți-mi dar visul vostru." 9 Mai-marele paharnicilor și-a istorisit lui Iosif visul și i-a zis: „În visul meu, se făcea că înaintea mea era o viță. 10 Vița aceasta avea trei mlădițe. Când a început să dea lăstari, i s-a deschis floarea, și ciorchinele au făcut struguri copți. 11 Paharul lui Faraon era în mâna mea. Eu am luat strugurii, i-am stors în paharul lui Faraon și am pus paharul în mâna lui Faraon." 12 Iosif i-a zis: „Iată*Vers. 18. Cap. 41:12,52.Jud. 7:14.Dan. 2:36;4:19. tălmăcirea visului. Cele trei mlădițe*Cap. 41:26. sunt trei zile. 13 Peste trei zile, Faraon te*2 Împ. 25:27.Ps. 3:3.Ier. 52:31. va scoate din temniță, te va pune iarăși în slujba ta și vei pune iarăși paharul în mâna lui Faraon, cum obișnuiai mai înainte, când erai paharnicul lui. 14 Dar adu-ți aminte*Luca 23:42. și de mine când vei fi fericit și arată, rogu-te, bunătate*Ios. 2:12.1 Sam. 20:14,15.2 Sam. 9:1.1 Împ. 2:7. față de mine; pune o vorbă bună pentru mine la Faraon și scoate-mă din casa aceasta. 15 Căci am fost luat cu sila din țara evreilor și chiar aici*Cap. 39:20. n-am făcut nimic ca să fiu aruncat în temniță." 16 Mai-marele pitarilor, văzând că Iosif dăduse o tălmăcire îmbucurătoare, a zis: „Iată, și în visul meu se făcea că port trei coșuri cu pâine albă pe capul meu. 17 În coșul de deasupra de tot erau tot felul de bucate pentru Faraon – prăjituri coapte în cuptor – și păsările mâncau din coșul care era deasupra de tot, pe capul meu." 18 Iosif a răspuns și a zis: „Iată-i*Vers. 12. tălmăcirea. Cele trei coșuri sunt trei zile. 19 Peste trei zile*Vers. 13., Faraon îți va lua capul, te va spânzura de un lemn, și carnea ți-o vor mânca păsările." 20 A treia zi, era ziua nașterii*Mat. 14:6. lui Faraon. El a dat un ospăț*Marcu 6:21. tuturor slujitorilor săi și a scos afară*Vers. 13,19.Mat. 25:19. din temniță pe mai-marele paharnicilor și pe mai-marele pitarilor, în fața slujitorilor săi: 21 pe mai-marele paharnicilor l-a pus*Vers. 13. iarăși în slujba lui de paharnic, ca să pună paharul*Neem. 2:1. în mâna lui Faraon, 22 iar pe mai-marele pitarilor l-a spânzurat*Vers. 19., după tălmăcirea pe care le-o dăduse Iosif. 23 Mai-marele paharnicilor nu*Iov 19:14.Ps. 31:12.Ecl. 9:15,16.Amos 6:6. s-a mai gândit însă la Iosif. L-a uitat.
