1 And the heavens and the earth and all their host were finished. 2 And God*GodHebrew: Elohim had finished on the seventh day his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 3 And God*GodHebrew: Elohim blessed the seventh day, and hallowed it, because that on it he rested from all his work which God*GodHebrew: Elohim had created in making it.

4 These are the histories of the heavens and the earth, when they were created, in the day that Jehovah Elohim made earth and heavens, 5 and every shrub of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew; for Jehovah Elohim had not caused it to rain on the earth, and there was no man to till the ground. 6 But a mist went up from the earth, and moistened the whole surface of the ground. 7 And Jehovah Elohim formed Man, dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and Man became a living soul.

8 And Jehovah Elohim planted a garden in Eden eastward, and there put Man whom he had formed. 9 And out of the ground Jehovah Elohim made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; and the tree of life, in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. 10 And a river went out of Eden, to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became four main streams. 11 The name of the one is Pison: that is it which surrounds the whole land of Havilah, where the gold is. 12 And the gold of that land is good; bdellium and the onyx stone are there. 13 And the name of the second river is Gihon: that is it which surrounds the whole land of Cush. 14 And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which flows forward toward Asshur. And the fourth river, that is Euphrates. 15 And Jehovah Elohim took Man, and put him into the garden of Eden, to till it and to guard it.

16 And Jehovah Elohim commanded Man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou shalt freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it; for in the day that thou eatest of it thou shalt certainly die.

18 And Jehovah Elohim said, It is not good that Man should be alone; I will make him a helpmate, his like. 19 And out of the ground Jehovah Elohim had formed every animal of the field and all fowl of the heavens, and brought them to Man, to see what he would call them; and whatever Man called each living soul, that was its name. 20 And Man gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the heavens, and to every beast of the field; but as for Adam, he found no helpmate, his like.

21 And Jehovah Elohim caused a deep sleep to fall upon Man; and he slept. And he took one of his ribs and closed up flesh in its stead. 22 And Jehovah Elohim built the rib that he had taken from Man into a woman; and brought her to Man. 23 And Man said, This time it is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh: this shall be called Woman, because this was taken out of a man. 24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and cleave to his wife; and they shall become one flesh. 25 And they were both naked, Man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

4 Iată*Cap. 1:1.Ps. 90:1,2. istoria cerurilor și a pământului, când au fost făcute. 5 În ziua când a făcut Domnul Dumnezeu un pământ și ceruri, nu era încă pe pământ niciun copăcel*Cap. 1:12.Ps. 104:14. de câmp și nicio iarbă de pe câmp nu încolțea încă, fiindcă Domnul Dumnezeu nu dăduse încă ploaie*Iov 38:26-28. pe pământ și nu era niciun om ca să lucreze*Cap. 3:23. pământul. 6 Ci un abur se ridica de pe pământ și uda toată fața pământului. 7 Domnul Dumnezeu a făcut pe om din țărâna*Cap. 3:19,23.Ps. 103:14.Ecl. 12:7.Is. 64:8.1 Cor. 15:47. pământului, i-a*Iov 33:4.Fapte 17:25. suflat în nări*Cap. 7:22.Is. 2:22. suflare de viață, și omul s-a făcut*1 Cor. 15:45. astfel un suflet viu.

8 Apoi, Domnul Dumnezeu a sădit o grădină*Cap. 13:10.Is. 51:3.Ezec. 28:13.Ioel 2:3. în Eden*Cap. 3:24., spre răsărit*Cap. 4:16.2 Împ. 19:12.Ezec. 27:23., și a pus*Vers. 15. acolo pe omul pe care-l întocmise. 9 Domnul Dumnezeu a făcut să răsară din pământ tot felul*Ezec. 31:8. de pomi plăcuți la vedere și buni la mâncare și pomul*Cap. 3:22.Prov. 3:18;11:30.Apoc. 2:7;22:2,14. vieții în mijlocul grădinii și pomul*Vers. 17. cunoștinței binelui și răului. 10 Un râu ieșea din Eden și uda grădina, și de acolo se împărțea și se făcea patru brațe. 11 Numele celui dintâi este Pison; el înconjoară toată țara Havila*Cap. 25:18., unde se găsește aur. 12 Aurul din țara aceasta este bun; acolo se găsește și bedelion*Num. 11:7. și piatră de onix. 13 Numele râului al doilea este Ghihon; el înconjoară toată țara Cuș. 14 Numele celui de al treilea este*Dan. 10:4. Hidechel*2:14 Adică: Tigru.. El curge la răsăritul Asiriei. Al patrulea râu este Eufratul. 15 Domnul Dumnezeu a luat pe om și l-a așezat*Vers. 8. în grădina Edenului ca s-o lucreze și s-o păzească. 16 Domnul Dumnezeu a dat omului porunca aceasta: „Poți să mănânci după plăcere din orice pom din grădină, 17 dar din pomul*Vers. 9. cunoștinței binelui și răului să nu mănânci*Cap. 3:1,3,11,17., căci, în ziua în care vei mânca din el, vei muri*Cap. 3:3,19.Rom. 6:23.1 Cor. 15:56.Iac. 1:15.1 Ioan 5:16. negreșit."

18 Domnul Dumnezeu a zis: „Nu este bine ca omul să fie singur; am să-i fac*Cap. 3:12.1 Cor. 11:9.1 Tim. 2:13. un ajutor potrivit pentru el." 19 Domnul Dumnezeu*Cap. 1:20,24. a făcut din pământ toate fiarele câmpului și toate păsările cerului și le-a adus*Ps. 8:6. Cap. 6:20. la om, ca să vadă cum are să le numească, și orice nume pe care-l dădea omul fiecărei viețuitoare, acela-i era numele. 20 Și omul a pus nume tuturor vitelor, păsărilor cerului și tuturor fiarelor câmpului, dar, pentru om, nu s-a găsit niciun ajutor care să i se potrivească. 21 Atunci, Domnul Dumnezeu a trimis un somn*Cap. 15:12.1 Sam. 26:12. adânc peste om, și omul a adormit; Domnul Dumnezeu a luat una din coastele lui și a închis carnea la locul ei. 22 Din coasta pe care o luase din om, Domnul Dumnezeu a făcut o femeie și a adus-o la*Prov. 18:22.Evr. 13:4. om. 23 Și omul a zis: „Iată în sfârșit aceea care este os*Cap. 29:14.Jud. 9:2.2 Sam. 5:1;19:13.Efes. 5:30. din oasele mele și carne din carnea mea! Ea se va numi ‘femeie’*2:23 În evreiește, femeie (ișa) vine de la un cuvânt care înseamnă bărbat (iș)., pentru că a fost luată din*1 Cor. 11:8. om." 24 De aceea*Cap. 31:15.Ps. 45:10.Mat. 19:5.Marcu 10:7.1 Cor. 6:16.Efes. 5:31. va lăsa omul pe tatăl său și pe mama sa și se va lipi de nevasta sa, și se vor face un singur trup.

25 Omul și nevasta lui erau amândoi*Cap. 3:7,10,11. goi și nu le era*Exod 32:25.Is. 47:3. rușine.
