Salmos 40

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.

1 I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.*40.1 I waited…: Heb. In waiting I waited

2 He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.*40.2 an…: Heb. a pit of noise

3 And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.

4 Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.

5 Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.*40.5 they cannot…: or, none can order them unto thee

6 Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.*40.6 opened: Heb. digged

7 Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,

8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.*40.8 within…: Heb. in the midst of my bowels

9 I have preached righteousness in the great congregation: lo, I have not refrained my lips, O LORD, thou knowest.

10 I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation.

11 Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O LORD: let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me.

12 For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth me.*40.12 faileth: Heb. forsaketh

13 Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me: O LORD, make haste to help me.

14 Let them be ashamed and confounded together that seek after my soul to destroy it; let them be driven backward and put to shame that wish me evil.

15 Let them be desolate for a reward of their shame that say unto me, Aha, aha.

16 Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: let such as love thy salvation say continually, The LORD be magnified.

17 But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.

Prophétie de Jésus-Christ.

1 Psaume de David, donné au maître chantre. 2 J’ai attendu patiemment l’Eternel, et il s’est tourné vers moi, et a ouï mon cri. 3 Il m’a fait remonter hors d’un puits bruyant, et d’un bourbier fangeux ; il a mis mes pieds sur un roc, et a assuré mes pas. 4 Et il a mis en ma bouche un nouveau Cantique, qui est la louange de notre Dieu. Plusieurs verront cela, et ils craindront, et se confieront en l’Eternel. 5 Ô que bienheureux est l’homme qui s’est proposé l’Eternel pour son assurance, et qui ne regarde point aux orgueilleux, ni à ceux qui se détournent vers le mensonge ! 6 Eternel mon Dieu ! tu as fait que tes merveilles et tes pensées envers nous sont en grand nombre ; Il n’est pas possible de les arranger devant toi : les veux-je réciter et dire ? elles sont en si grand nombre, que je ne les saurais raconter. 7 Tu ne prends point plaisir au sacrifice ni au gâteau ; mais tu m’as percé les oreilles ; tu n’as point demandé d’holocauste, ni d’oblation pour le péché. 8 Alors j’ai dit : Voici, je viens, il est écrit de moi au rôle du Livre ; 9 Mon Dieu, j’ai pris plaisir à faire ta volonté, et ta Loi est au-dedans de mes entrailles. 10 J’ai prêché ta justice dans la grande assemblée ; voilà, je n’ai point retenu mes lèvres ; tu le sais, ô Eternel ! 11 Je n’ai point caché ta justice, qui est au-dedans de mon coeur ; j’ai déclaré ta fidélité et ta délivrance ; je n’ai point scellé ta gratuité ni ta vérité dans la grande assemblée. 12 Et toi, Eternel! ne m’épargne point tes compassions ; que ta gratuité et ta vérité me gardent continuellement. 13 Car des maux sans nombre m’ont environné ; mes iniquités m’ont atteint, et je ne les ai pu voir ; elles surpassent en nombre les cheveux de ma tête, et mon coeur m’a abandonné. 14 Eternel, veuille me délivrer ; Eternel, hâte-toi de venir à mon secours. 15 Que ceux-là soient tous honteux et rougissent ensemble qui cherchent mon âme pour la perdre ; et que ceux qui prennent plaisir à mon malheur, retournent en arrière, et soient confus. 16 Que ceux qui disent de moi : Aha ! Aha ! soient consumés, en récompense de la honte qu’ils m’ont faite. 17 Que tous ceux qui te cherchent, s’égayent et se réjouissent en toi ; et que ceux qui aiment ta délivrance, disent continuellement : Magnifié soit l’Eternel. Or je suis affligé et misérable, mais le Seigneur a soin de moi ; tu es mon secours et mon libérateur ; mon Dieu ne tarde point.
