1 Na minha angústia, clamei ao Senhor,

e ele me respondeu.

2 Senhor, livra-me dos lábios mentirosos

e da língua traiçoeira!

3 O que ele dará a você?

Como lhe retribuirá, ó língua traiçoeira?

4 Ele a castigará com flechas afiadas de guerreiro,

com brasas incandescentes de giestas.

5 Ai de mim, que vivo como estrangeiro em Meseque,

que habito entre as tendas de Quedar!

6 Tenho vivido tempo demais

entre os que odeiam a paz.

7 Eu sou pela paz;

mas, se falo de paz, eles são pela guerra.

A Song of Ascents.

1 In my distress I cried unto Jehovah,

And he answered me.

2 Deliver my soul, O Jehovah, from lying lips,

And from a deceitful tongue.

3 What shall be given unto thee, and what shall be done more unto thee,

Thou deceitful tongue?

4 Sharp arrows of the mighty,

With coals of juniper.

5 Woe is me, that I sojourn in Meshech,

That I dwell among the tents of Kedar!

6 My soul hath long had her dwelling

With him that hateth peace.

7 I am for peace:

But when I speak, they are for war.
