1 Eu clamo pelo Senhor na minha angústia, e ele me responde.2 Senhor, livra-me dos lábios mentirosos e da língua traiçoeira!3 O que ele lhe dará? Como lhe retribuirá, ó língua enganadora?4 Ele a castigará com flechas afiadas de guerreiro, com brasas incandescentes de sândalo.5 Ai de mim que vivo como estrangeiro em Meseque, que habito entre as tendas de Quedar!6 Tenho vivido tempo demais entre os que odeiam a paz.7 Sou um homem de paz; mas, ainda que eu fale de paz, eles só falam de guerra.

1 In my distress I cried unto Jehovah,

And he answered me.

2 Deliver my soul, O Jehovah, from lying lips,

And from a deceitful tongue.

3 What shall be given unto thee, and what shall be done more unto thee,

Thou deceitful tongue?

4 Sharp arrows of the mighty,

With coals of juniper.

5 Woe is me, that I sojourn in Meshech,

That I dwell among the tents of Kedar!

6 My soul hath long had her dwelling

With him that hateth peace.

7 I am for peace:

But when I speak, they are for war.
