Salmos 137

1 Junto aos rios da Babilônia, nos sentamos e choramos

ao lembrar de Sião.

2 Ali, nos salgueiros,

penduramos as nossas harpas,

3 pois os nossos captores pediam-nos canções;

os nossos opressores exigiam canções alegres, dizendo:

"Cantem para nós uma das canções de Sião!".

4 Como poderíamos cantar as canções do Senhor

em uma terra estrangeira?

5 Se eu me esquecer de ti, ó Jerusalém,

que a minha mão direita perca as suas habilidades!*137.5 Ou definhe.

6 Que me grude a língua ao céu da boca,

se eu não me lembrar de ti

e não considerar Jerusalém

a minha maior alegria!

7 Lembra-te, Senhor, dos edomitas

e do que fizeram quando Jerusalém foi destruída,

pois gritavam: "Arrasem-na!

Arrasem-na até os alicerces!".

8 Ó cidade*137.8 Hebraico: filha. da Babilônia, destinada à destruição,

bem-aventurado aquele que lhe retribuir o mal que você nos fez!

9 Bem-aventurado aquele que pegar as suas crianças

e despedaçá-las contra as rochas!

There we sat down, yea, we wept,

When we remembered Zion.

2 Upon the willows in the midst thereof

We hanged up our harps.

3 For there they that led us captive required of us songs,

And they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying,

Sing us one of the songs of Zion.

4 How shall we sing Jehovah’s song

In a foreign land?

5 If I forget thee, O Jerusalem,

Let my right hand forget her skill.

6 Let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth,

If I remember thee not;

If I prefer not Jerusalem

Above my chief joy.

7 Remember, O Jehovah, against the children of Edom

The day of Jerusalem;

Who said, Rase it, rase it,

Even to the foundation thereof.

8 O daughter of Babylon, that art to be destroyed,

Happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee

As thou hast served us.

9 Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones

Against the rock.
