Salmos 17

Oração de Davi.

1 Ouve, Senhor, a minha justa queixa;

atenta para o meu clamor.

Dá ouvidos à minha oração,

que não vem de lábios falsos.

2 Venha de ti a sentença em meu favor;

vejam os teus olhos onde está a justiça!

3 Provas o meu coração e de noite me examinas;

tu me sondas e nada encontras;

decidi que a minha boca não pecará.

4 Quanto às obras humanas,

evito os caminhos dos violentos

conforme a palavra dos teus lábios.

5 Os meus passos seguem firmes nas tuas veredas;

os meus pés não escorregaram.

6 Eu clamo a ti, ó Deus, pois tu me respondes;

inclina para mim os teus ouvidos e ouve a minha oração.

7 Faz maravilhas com atos do teu amor leal,

tu, que salvas com a tua mão direita

os que em ti buscam proteção contra os seus adversários.

8 Protege-me como à menina dos teus olhos;

esconde-me à sombra das tuas asas,

9 dos ímpios que me atacam com violência,

dos inimigos mortais que me cercam.

10 Eles se fecham em sua insensibilidade

e com a boca proferem arrogâncias.

11 Eles me perseguem e cercam,

vigiando-me atentamente para me derrubar.

12 São como um leão ávido pela presa,

como um leão forte agachado na emboscada.

13 Levanta-te, Senhor! Confronta-os! Derruba-os!

Com a tua espada livra-me dos ímpios.

14 Livra-me com a tua mão de tais homens, Senhor,

de homens deste mundo cuja recompensa está nesta vida.

Quanto ao que reservaste para eles, enche-lhes o ventre;

que haja em excesso para os filhos deles

a ponto de sobrar para os seus pequeninos.*17.14 Ou Quanto aos que são o teu tesouro, tu lhes enches o ventre; / eles têm fartura de filhos / e deixam da sua abundância para os seus pequeninos.

15 Quanto a mim, feita a justiça, verei a tua face;

quando despertar, ficarei satisfeito ao contemplar a tua forma.

A Prayer of David.

1 Hear the right, O Jehovah, attend unto my cry;

Give ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of feigned lips.

2 Let my sentence come forth from thy presence;

Let thine eyes look upon equity.

3 Thou hast proved my heart; thou hast visited me in the night;

Thou hast tried me, and findest nothing;

I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.

4 As for the works of men, by the word of thy lips

I have kept me from the ways of the violent.

5 My steps have held fast to thy paths,

My feet have not slipped.

6 I have called upon thee, for thou wilt answer me, O God:

Incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech.

7 Show thy marvellous lovingkindness,

O thou that savest by thy right hand them that take refuge in thee

From those that rise up against them.

8 Keep me as the apple of the eye;

Hide me under the shadow of thy wings,

9 From the wicked that oppress me,

My deadly enemies, that compass me about.

10 They are inclosed in their own fat:

With their mouth they speak proudly.

11 They have now compassed us in our steps;

They set their eyes to cast us down to the earth.

12 He is like a lion that is greedy of his prey,

And as it were a young lion lurking in secret places.

13 Arise, O Jehovah,

Confront him, cast him down:

Deliver my soul from the wicked by thy sword;

14 From men by thy hand, O Jehovah,

From men of the world, whose portion is in this life,

And whose belly thou fillest with thy treasure:

They are satisfied with children,

And leave the rest of their substance to their babes.

15 As for me, I shall behold thy face in righteousness;

I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with beholding thy form.
