1 Bildade, o suíta, responde a Job:

2 "Até quando continuarás, dessa forma,

a atirar pela boca fora palavras à toa,

como se fossem sopradas por um vento impetuoso?

3 Seria Deus capaz de perverter a justiça?

Não reconheceria o Todo-Poderoso quem é inocente?

4 Quando os teus filhos pecaram contra ele,

ele os castigou,

5 se rogares ao Deus Todo-Poderoso misericórdia,

6 se fores puro e reto,

ele ouvirá a tua oração, responder-te-á,

e abençoar-te-á dando-te um lar feliz.

7 E, ainda que tenhas começado com pouco,

acabarás na abundância.

8 Debruça-te sobre o passado e verás,

consulta os documentos das gerações passadas

e constatarás o que te digo.

9 Nós, em relação a eles, apenas nascemos ontem

e conhecemos pouquíssimas coisas;

os nossos dias aqui na Terra passam como sombras.

10 Mas o conhecimento do passado dar-te-á sabedoria;

a experiência dos outros falar-te-á.

11 Poderá o papiro crescer sem um pântano,

E o junco pode florescer sem água?

12 Começa a murchar, mesmo antes que a cortem.

13 Assim são os caminhos dos que se esquecem de Deus;

assim acaba a esperança do ímpio.

14 A sua segurança será frustrada

e a sua confiança como se pendurasse numa teia de aranha.

15 Ele apoia-se na sua teia, mas ela não suportará;

segura-se, mas ela não resistirá.

16 É como uma planta bem regada pelo Sol;

os seus ramos estendem-se nos caminhos do jardim.

17 As raízes vão à procura da água por entre as pedras.

18 Mas depois de desaparecer, nem sequer se dá pela sua falta;

é esse o seu destino.

19 Assim chega ao fim a alegria do seu caminho

e outros brotam da terra no seu lugar.

20 No entanto, repara:

Deus não rejeitará alguém que seja reto;

também não estenderá a mão para ajudar malfeitores.

21 Ele acabará por encher a tua boca de risos

e os teus lábios de exclamações de felicidade.

22 Aqueles que te odeiam serão cobertos de vergonha

e o malvado será destruído."

8 For enquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare thyself to the search of their fathers: 9 (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:)*8.9 nothing: Heb. not 10 Shall not they teach thee, and tell thee, and utter words out of their heart? 11 Can the rush grow up without mire? can the flag grow without water? 12 Whilst it is yet in his greenness, and not cut down, it withereth before any other herb. 13 So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite’s hope shall perish: 14 Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider’s web.*8.14 web: Heb. house 15 He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure. 16 He is green before the sun, and his branch shooteth forth in his garden. 17 His roots are wrapped about the heap, and seeth the place of stones. 18 If he destroy him from his place, then it shall deny him, saying, I have not seen thee. 19 Behold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the earth shall others grow.
