A baixa origem de Jerusalém

1 Veio a mim a palavra de Jeová, dizendo: 2 Filho do homem, *Ez 20.4;22.2;Is 58.1faze conhecer a Jerusalém todas as suas *Ez 8.9-17abominações, 3 e dize: Assim diz o Senhor Jeová a Jerusalém: A tua origem e a tua natividade, vem da terra dos cananeus; *Ez 16.45;Gn 11.25-29;15.16;Dt 7.1;Js 24.14-15o amorreu era teu pai, e tua mãe era *Ez 16.45;Dt 7.1;Jz 1.26heteia. 4 Quanto à tua natividade, no dia em que nasceste, não te foi cortado o umbigo, nem foste lavada na água para te limpar; não foste esfregada com sal, nem envolta em faixas. 5 Não se apiedou de ti olho algum, para te fazer alguma dessas coisas, compadecendo-se de ti; porém no dia em que nasceste, foste arrojado *Dt 32.10fora no campo, porque tiveram nojo de ti.

6 Então, passei junto de ti e, vendo-te *Ez 16.22envolta no teu sangue, te disse: Ainda que estás no teu sangue, *Êx 19.4;Sl 105.10-15vive. 7 Eu *Êx 1.7;Dt 1.10te fiz multiplicar como o renovo do campo, cresceste, e te engrandeceste, e chegaste à grande formosura. Formaram-se os teus peitos, e cresceram os teus cabelos; contudo, estavas *Ez 16.22nua e despida. 8 Então, passei junto de ti, olhei para ti, e eis que o teu tempo era tempo de amores. *Rt 3.9;Jr 2.2Estendi sobre ti a minha capa e cobri a tua nudez; sim, *Gn 22.16-18dei-te juramento *Êx 24.7-8e entrei em aliança contigo, diz o Senhor Jeová, *Ez 20.5;Êx 19.5;Os 2.19-20e tu ficaste sendo minha. 9 Então, te lavei na água, e te limpei do teu sangue, *Rt 3.3e te ungi com óleo. 10 Também te vesti de *Ez 16.13,18;Ez 26.16;27.7,16;Êx 26.36roupas bordadas, e te calcei de pele de focas, e te cingi de linho fino, e te cobri de *Ez 16.13seda. 11 Também *Ez 23.40te enfeitei com adornos e te pus *Ez 23.42;Gn 24.22,47;Is 3.19braceletes nas mãos e um *Gn 41.42;Pv 1.9colar ao redor do teu pescoço. 12 Eu te pus *Gn 24.47;Is 3.21um pendente no nariz, e arrecadas nas orelhas, *Ez 16.14;Is 28.5;Jr 13.18e uma bela coroa na cabeça. 13 Assim, foste enfeitada de *Ez 16.17;Sl 45.13-14ouro e prata; o teu vestido era de linho fino, *Ez 16.10de seda e de bordados; nutriste-te *Ez 16.19da flor de farinha, e de mel, e de azeite; eras em *Ez 16.14extremo formosa e chegaste a ter *1Sm 10.1;1Rs 4.21estado real. 14 Espalhou-se o teu *1Rs 10.1-24renome entre as nações, por causa da tua formosura; porque era *Sl 50.2;Lm 2.15perfeita devido à minha *Ez 16.12-13majestade que eu tinha posto em ti, diz o Senhor Jeová.

15 Porém *Ez 16.25;Ez 27.3confiaste na tua formosura, e fornicaste por causa do teu renome, e *Ez 23.8derramaste as tuas fornicações sobre todo o que passava; estavas ao seu dispor. 16 Tomaste dos teus *Ez 16.10vestidos, e te fizeste *Ez 6.3,6;20.29-30altos, enfeitados de diversas cores, e fornicaste sobre eles. Coisas semelhantes não virão, nem assim sucederão. 17 Também tomaste as tuas belas *Ez 16.11-12joias, feitas do meu ouro e da minha prata que eu te havia dado, *Ez 7.20e te fizeste imagens de homens, e fornicaste com elas; 18 tomaste os *Ez 16.10teus vestidos bordados, e as cobriste, e puseste diante delas o meu azeite e o meu incenso. 19 Puseste diante delas em suave cheiro o meu pão que te dei, *Ez 16.13a flor de farinha, e o azeite, e o mel com que te nutri, e assim se fez, diz o Senhor Jeová. 20 Demais, tomaste teus filhos e tuas filhas, *Dt 29.11-12;Is 43.6;2Co 6.18que me geraste, e lhos *Ez 20.31;23.37;Sl 106.37-38;Jr 7.31sacrificaste para serem devorados pelas chamas. Acaso, foram as tuas fornicações coisa de tão pouca monta, 21 que mataste os meus filhos e os entregaste, *2Rs 17.17;Jr 19.5fazendo que para elas passassem pelo fogo? 22 Em todas as tuas abominações e fornicações, não te lembraste dos dias da tua mocidade, quando estavas *Ez 16.6-7nua, e despida, e envolta no teu sangue.

Descrição da sua grosseira infidelidade

23 Depois de toda a tua maldade *Ez 24.6,9(ai, ai de ti! — diz o Senhor Jeová), 24 edificaste para ti *Ez 16.31,39;Ez 20.28-29;Jr 11.13lugares altos em todas as ruas. 25 Edificaste a cada canto do caminho *Sl 78.58;Is 57.5,7o teu lugar alto, e prostituíste a *Ez 16.15tua formosura, e alargaste os teus pés a todo o que passava, e multiplicaste as tuas fornicações. 26 Também fornicaste com *Ez 20.7-8;23.19-21os egípcios, teus vizinhos, homens corpulentos; e multiplicaste a tua fornicação, para *Ez 8.17;Jr 7.18-19me provocares à ira. 27 Eis que, portanto, *Ez 14.13;20.33-34estendi sobre ti a minha mão, e diminuí a tua *Ez 16.13porção, *Ez 16.37;Ez 23.22-23,28e te entreguei à vontade *Ez 16.57;Is 9.12das que te odeiam, das filhas dos filisteus, as quais se envergonhavam do teu caminho depravado. 28 Também fornicaste com os *Ez 23.12;2Rs 16.7,10-18;2Cr 28.16,20-23;Jr 2.18,36;Os 10.6assírios, porquanto eras insaciável; sim, fornicaste com eles; contudo, nem ainda ficaste satisfeita. 29 Demais, multiplicaste a tua fornicação na terra de Canaã até *Ez 23.14-17Caldeia e nem ainda com isso ficaste satisfeita.

30 Quão *Pv 9.13;Is 1.3;Jr 4.22enfraquecido está o teu coração, diz o Senhor Jeová, fazendo tu todas essas coisas, obras duma *Is 3.9;Jr 3.3mulher meretriz e desenfreada, 31 edificando a tua câmara abobadada *Ez 16.24no canto de todos os caminhos e fazendo o teu lugar alto em todas as ruas! Não tens sido como a meretriz, visto que *Is 52.3desprezas a paga. 32 Mulher que comete adultério, que, em lugar do marido recebe os estrangeiros! 33 A todas as prostitutas se dá a sua paga, mas *Ez 16.41;Is 57.9;Os 8.9-10tu pagas a todos os teus amantes e lhes dás peitas, para que de todos os lados venham para fornicarem contigo. 34 A ti sucede o contrário do que sucede a outras mulheres; tu fornicas, e ninguém anda após ti para fornicar; *Ez 16.33tu dás a paga, e a ti não se te dá a paga; por isso, és diferente das outras.

O castigo de Jerusalém

35 Portanto, ó meretriz, ouve a palavra de Jeová: 36 Assim diz o Senhor Jeová: Porquanto foi excessiva *Ez 16.15;Ez 23.10,18,29a tua lascívia e descoberta a tua nudez nas tuas fornicações com os teus amantes; por causa também de todos *Ez 20.31;23.37;Jr 19.5os ídolos das tuas abominações e do sangue de teus filhos que lhes deste, 37 portanto, eis que *Ez 23.9,22;Jr 13.22,26;Os 2.3,10;Na 3.5-6ajuntarei todos os teus amantes, com os quais te deleitaste, e todos os que amaste, juntamente com todos os que *Ez 23.17,28aborreceste; ajuntá-los-ei de todas as partes contra ti e *Is 47.3descobrir-lhes-ei a tua nudez, para que vejam toda a tua nudez. 38 *Ez 23.45Julgar-te-ei como são julgadas as adúlteras e as que derramam sangue; e te entregarei ao sangue de *Ez 23.25;Sl 79.3,5;Jr 18.21;Sf 1.17furor e de ciúme. 39 Também *Ez 21.31;23.9,28te entregarei nas mãos dos teus inimigos, que derribarão a tua *Ez 16.24,31câmara abobadada e demolirão os teus lugares altos; que te despirão os teus *Ez 16.10,16vestidos, tomarão as tuas *Ez 16.11-12,17belas joias e te deixarão nua e despida. 40 Também convocarão contra ti *Ez 23.47;Hc 1.6-10uma assembleia, e com pedras te apedrejarão, e te traspassarão com as suas espadas. 41 *2Rs 25.9;Jr 39.8;52.13Abrasarão com fogo as tuas casas e executarão sobre ti juízos à vista de muitas mulheres. *Ez 23.48Farei que cesses de fornicar, e não tornarás mais a dar paga. 42 *Ez 5.13;21.17;2Sm 24.25;Zc 6.8Assim, satisfarei em ti o meu furor, e se desviarão de ti os meus ciúmes; ficarei tranquilo *Ez 39.29;Is 40.1-2;54.9-10e não me tornarei mais a irar. 43 Porque *Ez 16.22;Sl 78.42;106.13não te lembraste dos dias da tua mocidade, mas me *Ez 6.9;Is 63.10irritaste por todas estas coisas; por isso, eis que *Ez 11.21;22.31farei recair o teu caminho sobre a tua cabeça, diz o Senhor Jeová; e, a todas as suas abominações não acrescentarás esta depravidade.

Jerusalém, pior do que Sodoma ou Samaria

44 Eis que todo o que usa *Ez 12.22-23;18.2-3;1Sm 24.13de provérbios usará contra ti este provérbio: Tal mãe, tal filha. 45 Tu és filha de tua mãe, que tem nojo de seu marido e de seus filhos; e tu és *Ez 23.2irmã de tuas irmãs, que *Ez 23.37-39;Gn 18.20;Is 1.4;Zc 11.8tinham nojo de seus maridos e de seus filhos; *Ez 16.3vossa mãe era heteia, e vosso pai, amorreu. 46 *Ez 23.4;Jr 3.8-11Tua irmã maior é Samaria, que habita à tua mão esquerda, juntamente com suas filhas; e tua irmã menor, que habita à tua mão direita, *Ez 16.48-49,53-56,61;Gn 13.11-13;18.20é Sodoma e suas filhas. 47 Contudo, não andaste *Ez 5.7nos seus caminhos, nem fizeste conforme as suas abominações; porém, como se isso fora *1Rs 16.31coisa de pouca monta, foste *Ez 16.48,51;Ez 5.6;2Rs 21.9mais corrompida do que elas em todos os teus caminhos. 48 Pela minha vida, diz o Senhor Jeová, *Mt 11.23-24não fez Sodoma, tua irmã, nem ela nem suas filhas, como fizeste tu e tuas filhas. 49 Eis que esta era a iniquidade de Sodoma, tua irmã: *Ez 28.2,9,17;Gn 19.9;Sl 138.6;Is 3.9a soberba, *Gn 13.10;Is 22.13;Am 6.4-6a fartura de pão e *Lc 12.16-20;16.19a próspera tranquilidade achavam-se nela e em suas filhas, porém não segurava ela a mão do *Ez 18.7,12,16pobre e do necessitado. 50 Eram *Ez 7.10arrogantes e cometeram abominações diante de mim; portanto, ao ver isso, *Gn 19.24-25as removi do seu lugar. 51 Também Samaria não cometeu a *Ez 5.6;23.11metade dos teus pecados, mas tu multiplicaste as tuas abominações mais do que elas e *Jr 3.8-11;Mt 12.41-42justificaste tuas irmãs por todas as tuas abominações que praticaste. 52 Tu também, que deste sentença favorável a tuas irmãs, *Ez 16.54,61;Ez 23.35;36.6-7leva a tua vergonha; pelos teus pecados que cometeste *Ez 16.47-48,51mais abomináveis do que elas, são elas *Ez 16.51mais justas do que tu; confunde-te também e leva a tua vergonha, pois *Ez 16.51justificaste tuas irmãs.

53 *Ez 16.61;Ez 29.14;39.25;Jr 48.47;49.6,39Farei voltar o cativeiro delas, o cativeiro de Sodoma e de suas filhas, e o cativeiro de Samaria e de suas filhas, e o cativeiro dos teus cativos *Is 19.24-25no meio delas, 54 para que *Ez 16.52,61leves a tua vergonha e sejas *Jr 2.26envergonhada por causa de tudo o que tens feito, servindo-lhes de *Ez 14.22;31.16conforto. 55 Tuas irmãs, Sodoma e suas filhas, tornarão ao seu estado primitivo, e Samaria e suas filhas tornarão ao seu estado primitivo, e tu e tuas filhas tornareis ao vosso *Ez 16.53;Ez 36.11;Ml 3.4estado primitivo. 56 Pois tua irmã Sodoma *Is 65.5;Lc 15.28-30não foi mencionada pela tua boca no dia da tua soberba, 57 antes que fosse descoberta *Ez 16.36-37a tua maldade, como ela o foi no tempo *Ez 5.14-15;22.4;2Rs 16.5-7;2Cr 28.5-6,18-23do opróbrio das filhas da Síria e de todos os que estão ao redor dela, isto é, *Ez 16.27das filhas dos filisteus, que te desprezam. 58 A tua depravidade e as tuas abominações, *Ez 23.49levaste-as tu, diz Jeová. 59 Pois assim diz o Senhor Jeová: Também te farei a ti *Ez 7.3;18.30como fizeste, tu que *Ez 17.19;Is 24.5desprezaste o juramento, invalidando a aliança.

Deus lembra-se da sua aliança

60 Contudo, eu me lembrarei da minha *Ez 16.8;Sl 105.8;Jr 2.2;Os 2.15aliança contigo nos dias da tua mocidade e estabelecerei contigo uma *Ez 37.26;Is 55.3;Jr 32.38-41aliança eterna. 61 Então, te *Ez 6.9;Jr 50.4-5lembrarás dos teus caminhos e ficarás envergonhada, quando receberes as tuas irmãs, as irmãs mais velhas e bem assim as irmãs mais moças; e tas darei por filhas, porém não pela tua aliança. 62 *Ez 20.37;34.25;37.26Eu estabelecerei a minha aliança contigo e *Ez 20.43-44;Jr 24.7saberás que eu sou Jeová, 63 para *Ez 36.31-32;Dn 9.7-8que te lembres, e fiques confundida, *Sl 39.9;Rm 3.19e não abras mais a tua boca por causa da tua vergonha, quando eu *Sl 65.3;78.38;79.9te houver perdoado tudo o que fizeste, diz o Senhor Jeová.

1 Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations, 3 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD unto Jerusalem; Thy birth and thy nativity is of the land of Canaan; thy father was an Amorite, and thy mother an Hittite.*16.3 birth: Heb. cutting out, or, habitation 4 And as for thy nativity, in the day thou wast born thy navel was not cut, neither wast thou washed in water to supple thee; thou wast not salted at all, nor swaddled at all.*16.4 to supple…: or, when I looked upon thee 5 None eye pitied thee, to do any of these unto thee, to have compassion upon thee; but thou wast cast out in the open field, to the lothing of thy person, in the day that thou wast born.

6 And when I passed by thee, and saw thee polluted in thine own blood, I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live; yea, I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live.*16.6 polluted: or, trodden under foot 7 I have caused thee to multiply as the bud of the field, and thou hast increased and waxen great, and thou art come to excellent ornaments: thy breasts are fashioned, and thine hair is grown, whereas thou wast naked and bare.*16.7 caused…: Heb. made thee a million*16.7 excellent…: Heb. ornament of ornaments 8 Now when I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, behold, thy time was the time of love; and I spread my skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness: yea, I sware unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord GOD, and thou becamest mine. 9 Then washed I thee with water; yea, I throughly washed away thy blood from thee, and I anointed thee with oil.*16.9 blood: Heb. bloods 10 I clothed thee also with broidered work, and shod thee with badgers’ skin, and I girded thee about with fine linen, and I covered thee with silk. 11 I decked thee also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon thy hands, and a chain on thy neck. 12 And I put a jewel on thy forehead, and earrings in thine ears, and a beautiful crown upon thine head.*16.12 forehead: Heb. nose 13 Thus wast thou decked with gold and silver; and thy raiment was of fine linen, and silk, and broidered work; thou didst eat fine flour, and honey, and oil: and thou wast exceeding beautiful, and thou didst prosper into a kingdom. 14 And thy renown went forth among the heathen for thy beauty: for it was perfect through my comeliness, which I had put upon thee, saith the Lord GOD.

15 But thou didst trust in thine own beauty, and playedst the harlot because of thy renown, and pouredst out thy fornications on every one that passed by; his it was. 16 And of thy garments thou didst take, and deckedst thy high places with divers colours, and playedst the harlot thereupon: the like things shall not come, neither shall it be so. 17 Thou hast also taken thy fair jewels of my gold and of my silver, which I had given thee, and madest to thyself images of men, and didst commit whoredom with them,*16.17 of men: Heb. of a male 18 And tookest thy broidered garments, and coveredst them: and thou hast set mine oil and mine incense before them. 19 My meat also which I gave thee, fine flour, and oil, and honey, wherewith I fed thee, thou hast even set it before them for a sweet savour: and thus it was, saith the Lord GOD.*16.19 a sweet…: Heb. a savour of rest 20 Moreover thou hast taken thy sons and thy daughters, whom thou hast borne unto me, and these hast thou sacrificed unto them to be devoured. Is this of thy whoredoms a small matter,*16.20 to be…: Heb. to devour 21 That thou hast slain my children, and delivered them to cause them to pass through the fire for them? 22 And in all thine abominations and thy whoredoms thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, when thou wast naked and bare, and wast polluted in thy blood. 23 And it came to pass after all thy wickedness, (woe, woe unto thee! saith the Lord GOD;) 24 That thou hast also built unto thee an eminent place, and hast made thee an high place in every street.*16.24 eminent…: or, brothel house 25 Thou hast built thy high place at every head of the way, and hast made thy beauty to be abhorred, and hast opened thy feet to every one that passed by, and multiplied thy whoredoms. 26 Thou hast also committed fornication with the Egyptians thy neighbours, great of flesh; and hast increased thy whoredoms, to provoke me to anger. 27 Behold, therefore I have stretched out my hand over thee, and have diminished thine ordinary food, and delivered thee unto the will of them that hate thee, the daughters of the Philistines, which are ashamed of thy lewd way.*16.27 daughters: or, cities 28 Thou hast played the whore also with the Assyrians, because thou wast unsatiable; yea, thou hast played the harlot with them, and yet couldest not be satisfied. 29 Thou hast moreover multiplied thy fornication in the land of Canaan unto Chaldea; and yet thou wast not satisfied herewith. 30 How weak is thine heart, saith the Lord GOD, seeing thou doest all these things, the work of an imperious whorish woman; 31 In that thou buildest thine eminent place in the head of every way, and makest thine high place in every street; and hast not been as an harlot, in that thou scornest hire;*16.31 In that thou buildest…: or, In thy daughters is thine, etc 32 But as a wife that committeth adultery, which taketh strangers instead of her husband! 33 They give gifts to all whores: but thou givest thy gifts to all thy lovers, and hirest them, that they may come unto thee on every side for thy whoredom.*16.33 hirest: Heb. bribest 34 And the contrary is in thee from other women in thy whoredoms, whereas none followeth thee to commit whoredoms: and in that thou givest a reward, and no reward is given unto thee, therefore thou art contrary.

35 Wherefore, O harlot, hear the word of the LORD: 36 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thy filthiness was poured out, and thy nakedness discovered through thy whoredoms with thy lovers, and with all the idols of thy abominations, and by the blood of thy children, which thou didst give unto them; 37 Behold, therefore I will gather all thy lovers, with whom thou hast taken pleasure, and all them that thou hast loved, with all them that thou hast hated; I will even gather them round about against thee, and will discover thy nakedness unto them, that they may see all thy nakedness. 38 And I will judge thee, as women that break wedlock and shed blood are judged; and I will give thee blood in fury and jealousy.*16.38 as: Heb. with judgments of 39 And I will also give thee into their hand, and they shall throw down thine eminent place, and shall break down thy high places: they shall strip thee also of thy clothes, and shall take thy fair jewels, and leave thee naked and bare.*16.39 thy fair…: Heb. instruments of thine ornament 40 They shall also bring up a company against thee, and they shall stone thee with stones, and thrust thee through with their swords. 41 And they shall burn thine houses with fire, and execute judgments upon thee in the sight of many women: and I will cause thee to cease from playing the harlot, and thou also shalt give no hire any more. 42 So will I make my fury toward thee to rest, and my jealousy shall depart from thee, and I will be quiet, and will be no more angry. 43 Because thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, but hast fretted me in all these things; behold, therefore I also will recompense thy way upon thine head, saith the Lord GOD: and thou shalt not commit this lewdness above all thine abominations.

44 Behold, every one that useth proverbs shall use this proverb against thee, saying, As is the mother, so is her daughter. 45 Thou art thy mother’s daughter, that lotheth her husband and her children; and thou art the sister of thy sisters, which lothed their husbands and their children: your mother was an Hittite, and your father an Amorite. 46 And thine elder sister is Samaria, she and her daughters that dwell at thy left hand: and thy younger sister, that dwelleth at thy right hand, is Sodom and her daughters.*16.46 thy younger: Heb. lesser than thou 47 Yet hast thou not walked after their ways, nor done after their abominations: but, as if that were a very little thing, thou wast corrupted more than they in all thy ways.*16.47 as if…: or, that was lothed as a small thing 48 As I live, saith the Lord GOD, Sodom thy sister hath not done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters. 49 Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. 50 And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good. 51 Neither hath Samaria committed half of thy sins; but thou hast multiplied thine abominations more than they, and hast justified thy sisters in all thine abominations which thou hast done. 52 Thou also, which hast judged thy sisters, bear thine own shame for thy sins that thou hast committed more abominable than they: they are more righteous than thou: yea, be thou confounded also, and bear thy shame, in that thou hast justified thy sisters. 53 When I shall bring again their captivity, the captivity of Sodom and her daughters, and the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, then will I bring again the captivity of thy captives in the midst of them: 54 That thou mayest bear thine own shame, and mayest be confounded in all that thou hast done, in that thou art a comfort unto them. 55 When thy sisters, Sodom and her daughters, shall return to their former estate, and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former estate, then thou and thy daughters shall return to your former estate. 56 For thy sister Sodom was not mentioned by thy mouth in the day of thy pride,*16.56 mentioned: Heb. for a report, or, hearing*16.56 pride: Heb. prides, or, excellencies 57 Before thy wickedness was discovered, as at the time of thy reproach of the daughters of Syria, and all that are round about her, the daughters of the Philistines, which despise thee round about.*16.57 Syria: Heb. Aram*16.57 despise: or, spoil 58 Thou hast borne thy lewdness and thine abominations, saith the LORD.*16.58 borne: Heb. borne them 59 For thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even deal with thee as thou hast done, which hast despised the oath in breaking the covenant.

60 Nevertheless I will remember my covenant with thee in the days of thy youth, and I will establish unto thee an everlasting covenant. 61 Then thou shalt remember thy ways, and be ashamed, when thou shalt receive thy sisters, thine elder and thy younger: and I will give them unto thee for daughters, but not by thy covenant. 62 And I will establish my covenant with thee; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD: 63 That thou mayest remember, and be confounded, and never open thy mouth any more because of thy shame, when I am pacified toward thee for all that thou hast done, saith the Lord GOD.
