1 For Jehovah will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in rest in their own land; and the stranger shall be united to them, and they shall be joined to the house of Jacob. 2 And the peoples shall take them and bring them to their place; and the house of Israel shall possess them in the land of Jehovah for servants and handmaids; and they shall take them captive whose captives they were, and they shall rule over their oppressors. 3 And it shall come to pass in the day that Jehovah shall give thee rest from thy sorrow and from thy trouble and from the hard bondage wherein thou wast made to serve,

4 that thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased, — the exactress of gold ceased! 5 Jehovah hath broken the staff of the wicked, the sceptre of the rulers. 6 He that smote the peoples in wrath with a relentless stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted unsparingly. 7 The whole earth is at rest, is quiet: they break forth into singing. 8 Even the cypresses rejoice at thee, the cedars of Lebanon, saying, Since thou art laid down, no feller is come up against us. 9 Sheol from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming, stirring up the dead for thee, all the he-goats of the earth; making to rise from their thrones all the kings of the nations. 10 All of them shall answer and say unto thee, Art thou also become powerless as we; art thou become like unto us! 11 — Thy pomp is brought down to Sheol, the noise of thy lyres: the maggot is spread under thee, and worms cover thee. 12 How art thou fallen from heaven, Lucifer, son of the morning! Thou art cut down to the ground, that didst prostrate the nations! 13 And thou that didst say in thy heart, I will ascend into the heavens, I will exalt my throne above the stars of ·God*GodHebrew: El and I will sit upon the mount of assembly, in the recesses of the north; 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High: 15 none the less art thou brought down to Sheol, to the recesses of the pit. 16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee; they shall consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that shook kingdoms; 17 that made the world as a wilderness, and overthrew the cities thereof; that dismissed not his prisoners homewards? 18 — All the kings of the nations, all of them, lie in glory, every one in his own house; 19 but thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, covered with the slain — those thrust through with the sword, that go down to the stones of the pit: like a carcase trodden under foot. 20 Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial; for thou hast destroyed thy land, hast slain thy people. Of the seed of evildoers no mention shall be made for ever. 21 Prepare ye slaughter for his children, because of the iniquity of their fathers; that they may not rise up and possess the earth, nor fill the face of the world with cities. 22 For I will rise up against them, saith Jehovah of hosts, and cut off from Babylon name and remnant, and scion and descendant, saith Jehovah. 23 And I will make it a possession for the bittern, and pools of water; and I will sweep it with the besom of destruction, saith Jehovah of hosts.

24 Jehovah of hosts hath sworn saying, Assuredly as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, it shall stand: 25 to break the Assyrian in my land; and upon my mountains will I tread him under foot; and his yoke shall depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders. 26 This is the counsel which is purposed concerning the whole earth; and this is the hand which is stretched out upon all the nations. 27 For Jehovah of hosts hath purposed, and who shall frustrate it? And his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back? 28 In the year of the death of king Ahaz was this burden: 29 Rejoice not thou, Philistia, all of thee, because the rod that smote thee is broken; for out of the serpent’s root shall come forth a viper, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent. 30 And the firstborn of the poor shall feed, and the needy shall lie down in safety; but I will kill thy root with famine, and thy remnant shall be slain. 31 Howl, O gate! cry, O city! thou, Philistia, art wholly dissolved; for there cometh from the north a smoke, and none remaineth apart in his gatherings of troops. 32 And what shall be answered to the messengers of the nation? That Jehovah hath founded Zion, and the afflicted of his people find refuge in it.

Domnul va avea milă de Iacov, va alege iarăși*Zah. 1:17;2:12. pe Israel și-i va aduce iarăși la odihnă în țara lor; străinii*Cap. 60:4,5,10.Efes. 2:12. se vor alipi de ei și se vor uni cu casa lui Iacov. 2 Popoarele îi vor lua și-i*Cap. 49:22;60:9;66:20. vor aduce înapoi la locuința lor, și casa lui Israel îi va stăpâni*Cap. 60:14. în țara Domnului, ca robi și roabe. Vor ține astfel robi pe cei ce-i robiseră pe ei și vor stăpâni peste asupritorii lor. 3 Iar când îți va da Domnul odihnă după ostenelile și frământările tale și după aspra robie care a fost pusă peste tine, 4 atunci vei cânta*Cap. 13:19.Hab. 2:6. cântarea aceasta asupra împăratului Babilonului și vei zice:

„Iată, asupritorul nu mai este, asuprirea*Apoc. 18:16. a încetat, 5 Domnul a frânt toiagul*Ps. 125:3. celor răi, nuiaua stăpânitorilor. 6 Cel ce, în urgia lui, lovea popoarele cu lovituri fără răgaz, cel ce, în mânia lui, supunea neamurile este prigonit fără cruțare. 7 Tot pământul se bucură acum de odihnă și pace; izbucnesc oamenii în cântece de veselie. 8 Până și chiparoșii și cedrii din Liban*Cap. 55:12.Ezec. 31:16. se bucură de căderea ta și zic: ‘De când ai căzut tu, nu se mai suie nimeni să ne taie!’ 9 Locuința morților*Ezec. 32:21. se mișcă până în adâncimile ei, ca să te primească la sosire; ea trezește înaintea ta umbrele, pe toți mai-marii pământului, scoală de pe scaunele lor de domnie pe toți împărații neamurilor. 10 Toți iau cuvântul ca să-ți spună: ‘Și tu ai ajuns fără putere ca noi, și tu ai ajuns ca noi!’ 11 Strălucirea ta s-a coborât și ea în Locuința morților, cu sunetul alăutelor tale; așternut de viermi vei avea și viermii te vor acoperi. 12 Cum*Cap. 34:4. ai căzut din cer, Luceafăr strălucitor, fiu al zorilor! Cum ai fost doborât la pământ, tu, biruitorul neamurilor! 13 Tu ziceai în inima ta: ‘Mă voi sui*Mat. 11:23. în cer, îmi voi ridica*Dan. 8:10. scaunul de domnie mai presus de stelele lui Dumnezeu; voi ședea pe muntele adunării dumnezeilor, la capătul miazănopții; 14 mă voi sui pe*Ps. 48:2. vârful norilor, voi*Cap. 47:8.2 Tes. 2:4. fi ca Cel Preaînalt.’ 15 Dar ai fost aruncat în Locuința morților*Mat. 11:23., în adâncimile mormântului! 16 Cei ce te văd se uită țintă mirați la tine, te privesc cu luare aminte și zic: ‘Acesta este omul care făcea să se cutremure pământul și zguduia împărățiile, 17 care prefăcea lumea în pustie, nimicea cetățile și nu dădea drumul prinșilor săi de război?’ 18 Toți împărații neamurilor, da, toți se odihnesc cu cinste, fiecare în mormântul lui. 19 Dar tu ai fost aruncat departe de mormântul tău, ca o ramură disprețuită, ca o pradă luată de la niște oameni uciși cu lovituri de sabie și aruncată pe pietrele unei gropi, ca un hoit călcat în picioare. 20 Tu nu ești unit cu ei în mormânt, căci ți-ai nimicit țara și ți-ai prăpădit poporul. Nu se va mai vorbi niciodată de neamul*Iov 18:19.Ps. 21:10;37:28;109:13. celor răi. 21 Pregătiți măcelărirea fiilor din*Exod 20:5.Mat. 23:35. pricina nelegiuirii părinților lor! Ca să nu se mai scoale să cucerească pământul și să umple lumea cu cetăți!" 22 „Eu mă voi ridica împotriva lor", zice Domnul oștirilor, „și voi șterge numele*Prov. 10:7.Ier. 51:62. și urma*1 Împ. 14:10. Babilonului, pe fiu*Iov 18:19. și nepot", zice Domnul. 23 „Voi*Cap. 34:11.Ţef. 2:14. face din el un culcuș de arici și o mlaștină și îl voi mătura cu mătura nimicirii", zice Domnul oștirilor.

24 Domnul oștirilor a jurat și a zis: „Da, ce am hotărât se va întâmpla, ce am pus la cale se va împlini. 25 Voi zdrobi pe asirian în țara Mea, îl voi călca în picioare pe munții Mei. Astfel, jugul*Cap. 10:27. lui se va lua de pe ei și povara lui va fi luată de pe umerii lor." 26 Iată hotărârea luată împotriva întregului pământ, iată mâna întinsă peste toate neamurile. 27 Domnul oștirilor a luat această hotărâre*2 Cron. 20:6.Iov 9:12;23:13.Ps. 33:11.Prov. 19:21;21:30. Cap. 43:13.Dan. 4:31,35.. Cine I se va împotrivi? Mâna Lui este întinsă. Cine o va abate?

28 În anul morții împăratului*2 Împ. 16:20. Ahaz, a fost rostită această prorocie: 29 „Nu te bucura, țara filistenilor, că*2 Cron. 26:6. s-a frânt toiagul care te lovea! Căci din rădăcina șarpelui va ieși un basilisc și*2 Împ. 18:8. rodul lui va fi un balaur zburător. 30 Atunci, cei mai săraci vor putea paște și cei nenorociți vor putea să locuiască liniștiți, dar îți voi lăsa neamul să piară de foame și ce va mai rămâne din tine va fi omorât. 31 Gemi, poartă! Bocește-te, cetate! Cutremură-te, toată țara filistenilor! Căci un fum vine de la miazănoapte și șirurile vrăjmașului sunt strânse. 32 Și ce va răspunde trimișilor poporului? Că Domnul*Ps. 87:1,5;102:16. a întemeiat Sionul și că cei nenorociți*Ţef. 3:12.Zah. 11:11. din poporul Lui găsesc un loc de adăpost acolo."
