1 In those days Hezekiah was sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him, and said to him, Thus saith Jehovah: Set thy house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live. 2 And Hezekiah turned his face to the wall, and prayed to Jehovah, 3 and said, Ah, Jehovah, remember, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept much. 4 And the word of Jehovah came to Isaiah, saying, 5 Go and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith Jehovah, the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of David thy father: I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add to thy days fifteen years. 6 And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city. 7 And this shall be the sign to thee from Jehovah, that Jehovah will do this thing that he hath spoken: 8 behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees which hath gone down with the sun on the dial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward. So the sun returned on the dial ten degrees, by which it had gone down.

9 The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick and had recovered from his sickness: 10 I said, In the meridian of my days I shall go to the gates of Sheol: I am deprived of the rest of my years. 11 I said, I shall not see Jah, Jah in the land of the living. With those who dwell where all has ceased to be, I shall behold man no more. 12 Mine age is departed, and is removed from me as a shepherd’s tent. I have cut off like a weaver my life. He separateth me from the thrum: — from day to night thou wilt make an end of me. 13 I kept still until the morning; ...as a lion, so doth he break all my bones. From day to night thou wilt make an end of me. 14 Like a swallow or a crane, so did I chatter; I mourned as a dove; mine eyes failed with looking upward: Lord, I am oppressed; undertake for me. 15 What shall I say? He hath both spoken unto me, and himself hath done it. I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul. 16 Lord, by these things men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit; and thou hast recovered me, and made me to live. 17 Behold, instead of peace I had bitterness upon bitterness; but thou hast in love delivered my soul from the pit of destruction; for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back. 18 For not Sheol shall praise thee, nor death celebrate thee; they that go down into the pit do not hope for thy truth. 19 The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth. 20 Jehovah was purposed to save me. — And we will play upon my stringed instruments all the days of our life, in the house of Jehovah. 21 Now Isaiah had said, Let them take a cake of figs, and lay it for a plaster upon the boil, and he shall recover. 22 And Hezekiah had said, What is the sign that I shall go up into the house of Jehovah?

Prorocul Isaia, fiul lui Amoț, a venit la el și i-a zis: „Așa vorbește Domnul: ‘Pune-ți în rânduială*2 Sam. 17:23. casa, căci vei muri și nu vei mai trăi.’" 2 Ezechia s-a întors cu fața la perete și a făcut Domnului următoarea rugăciune: 3 „Doamne, adu-Ți aminte*Neem. 13:14. că am umblat înaintea Ta cu credincioșie și inimă curată și am făcut ce este bine înaintea Ta!" Și Ezechia a vărsat multe lacrimi. 4 Atunci Cuvântul Domnului a vorbit lui Isaia astfel: 5 „Du-te și spune lui Ezechia: ‘Așa vorbește Domnul Dumnezeul tatălui tău David: «Am auzit rugăciunea ta și am văzut lacrimile tale. Iată că voi mai adăuga încă cincisprezece ani la zilele vieții tale. 6 Te voi izbăvi pe tine și cetatea aceasta din mâna împăratului Asiriei; voi ocroti*Cap. 37:35. cetatea aceasta.» 7 Și iată semnul*2 Împ. 20:8. Cap. 7:11. din partea Domnului după care vei cunoaște că Domnul va împlini cuvântul pe care l-a rostit: 8 «Voi întoarce înapoi cu zece trepte umbra treptelor cu care s-a coborât soarele pe cadranul lui Ahaz.»’" Și soarele s-a dat înapoi cu zece trepte de pe treptele pe care se coborâse. 9 Cântarea lui Ezechia, împăratul lui Iuda, cu prilejul bolii și însănătoșirii lui. 10 „Ziceam: ‘În cei mai buni ani ai vieții mele trebuie să mă duc la porțile Locuinței morților! Sunt pedepsit cu pierderea celorlalți ani ai mei care-mi mai rămân!’

11 Ziceam: ‘Nu voi mai vedea pe Domnul, pe Domnul, în*Ps. 27:13;116:9. pământul celor vii;

nu voi mai vedea pe niciun om în Locuința morților!

12 Locuința*Iov 7:6. mea este luată și mutată de la mine, ca o colibă de păstori.

Îmi simt firul vieții tăiat ca de un țesător, care m-ar rupe din țesătura lui.

Până diseară îmi vei pune capăt.

13 Am strigat până dimineața; ca un leu îmi zdrobise toate oasele!

14 Ciripeam ca o rândunică, croncăneam ca un cocor

și gemeam*Cap. 59:11. ca o porumbiță. Ochii-mi priveau topiți spre cer:

«Doamne, sunt în necaz, ajută-mă!»’

15 Ce să mai spun? El mi-a răspuns și m-a ascultat.

Acum voi umbla smerit până la capătul anilor mei, după ce*Iov 7:11;10:1. am fost întristat astfel.

16 Doamne, prin îndurarea Ta se bucură omul de viață,

prin ea mai am și eu suflare,

căci Tu mă faci sănătos și îmi dai iarăși viața.

17 Iată, chiar suferințele mele erau spre mântuirea mea;

Tu ai găsit plăcere să-mi scoți sufletul din groapa putrezirii.

Căci ai aruncat înapoia Ta toate păcatele mele!

18 Căci nu Locuința morților Te laudă, nu moartea Te mărește

și cei*Ps. 6:5;30:9;88:11;115:17.Ecl. 9:10. ce s-au coborât în groapă nu mai nădăjduiesc în credincioșia Ta.

19 Ci cel viu, da, cel viu Te laudă, ca mine astăzi.

Tatăl*Deut. 4:9;6:7.Ps. 78:3,4. face cunoscută copiilor săi credincioșia Ta.

20 Domnul m-a mântuit!

De aceea, în toate zilele vieții noastre,

vom suna din coardele instrumentelor noastre

în Casa Domnului."

21 Isaia zisese*2 Împ. 20:7.: „Să se aducă o turtă de smochine și s-o întindă peste bubă și Ezechia va trăi." 22 Și Ezechia zisese*2 Împ. 20:8.: „După ce semn voi cunoaște că mă voi sui la Casa Domnului?"
